Gian Piero Bakery Introduce
For those navigating the vibrant streets of Queens, specifically where the energy of Astoria meets the residential charm of Long Island City, Gian Piero Bakery stands as a beacon of Old World tradition. Established in 1995, this family-owned Italian-American icon has spent decades perfecting the art of the bakeshop. For local New Yorkers, a visit to Gian Piero is more than just a quick errand; it is a sensory experience defined by the rich aroma of espresso and the sweet, yeasty scent of bread cooling on the racks. It serves as a community gathering spot where "nonnas" and young professionals alike rub elbows over a counter filled with authentic treats that stay true to their Italian roots.
The bakery captures a specific "aura" that many locals describe as feeling like a slice of Italy transported to New York. In a city where modern, minimalist cafes often replace traditional storefronts, Gian Piero Bakery maintains an unpretentious, old-school atmosphere. This commitment to authenticity has earned it a reputation as one of the premier destinations for Italian pastries in the entire borough. Whether you are looking for a celebratory cake for a milestone birthday or simply a quiet place to enjoy a morning cappuccino while the local church bells toll nearby, this 30th Avenue staple provides a consistent and comforting presence in the neighborhood.
Location and Accessibility
Gian Piero Bakery is located at 44-17 30th Ave., Long Island City, NY 11103, USA. Positioned in a bustling section of Astoria/Long Island City, it is highly accessible for those using the New York City subway system. The N and W trains stop at the 30th Avenue station, leaving visitors just a short walk away from the bakery’s front door. Its corner-adjacent location on 30th Avenue makes it a natural stop for pedestrians exploring the local shops and restaurants that define this part of Queens.
For those who prefer to drive, street parking is available throughout the surrounding blocks, though the area is best experienced on foot. One of the standout features of its location is the sidewalk seating. During the warmer months, the outdoor tables offer a front-row seat to the daily rhythm of Astoria life. The accessibility of the bakery extends to its operating hours, typically opening early at 6:00 AM and remaining a late-night destination until 10:00 PM every day of the week. What is worth choosing
When you step into Gian Piero Bakery, the first thing you should look for are their legendary rainbow cookies. Widely considered some of the best in New York City, these almond-based treats are perfectly moist and flavorful, making them a must-buy by the pound. For those who enjoy a classic Italian pastry, the cannolis are a top recommendation. Whether you choose the traditional size or the minis, the shells are noted for being exceptionally crunchy and buttery, filled with a luxuriously thick cream that avoids being overly sweet.
If you are looking for a larger dessert, the cheesecake and the strawberry shortcake are consistent crowd-pleasers. Local reviewers often praise the cheesecake for its great balance of flavor, suggesting it pairs perfectly with a black iced coffee or a hot cappuccino. For a more unique experience, the "Lobster Tail" pastry—a flaky, multi-layered shell filled with rich cream—is a decadent choice that showcases the bakery's technical skill. Finally, don't leave without a loaf of their handmade bread. The Pane di Casa or the Semolina loaves are staples for any local kitchen, offering the kind of crust and airy interior that only comes from decades of artisanal experience. Whether you're there for a date or a quick morning treat, choosing any of these classics ensures an authentic taste of Astoria heritage.

Incredible bakery. I enjoy their bread, their cannoli’s and cheesecake. I try cheesecake from different places and the cheesecake here has a great balance of flavor. I like to pair it with a black ice coffee no sugar, cappuccino if i feel like crashing out or just plain water. The best! The seats outside make it really comfortable in warm days. Makes you go like “wow I really am in Astoria” Nice place for a date

I come here often for Italian pastries and breads. And the one thing I look forward to every year is their Saint Joseph's pastries which are both only available around the holiday of patron Saint Joseph. The Saint Joseph is a puff pastry filled inside with cannoli cream and topped with a dollop of cannoli cream on top and the Saint Joseph sfingy is a puff pastry filled with custard and topped with a dollop of custard and some candied orange peels and cherry. Yesterday I went to pickup some of each and when I got home and opened the cake box the Saint Joseph looked like they forgot to put the cannoli cream inside and when I lifted off the top half of the puff pastry I saw a small low profile swirl of cannoli cream only in the very center not even covering the whole width of the bottom half of the puff pastry, and the same for the same for the Saint Joseph sfingy. I'm not sure if it has to do with the high prices of eggs but they could have at least put on enough filling in a single layer to cover the whole pastry base so you won't bite into a completely dry rim of pastry before actually getting to the filling that makes it worth the once a year wait. And for 3 of each version totaling 6 pastries little over $31.00. It was disappointing.

A bakery that excels on every level 🥇🥇 Authentic Italian breads, pastries, & cookies. Walking in gives you the aura of being outside NYC. Warm hospitality with a smile 😊. I was ecstatic with all the goodies on display. Took me a while to decide what to indulge in. The apple tart was outstanding and so were the lemon eclairs. Love the outdoor seating with church bells tolling from the corner. BEST of the BEST 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I’ve been coming to this place for a couple years. It’s been consistent with the flavors and the people that work there are very kind and polite. I understand the price of the cookies because you need to weigh those by pound. That makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is that you’re now charging by pound for your pastries. I don’t see any other bake shop in Astoria doing that. My most recent purchases of the pastries have been charged by weight and it’s now more than double the price. That’s just greedy.
