Sweets Bakery Cafe Introduce
In the rapidly evolving culinary landscape of Flushing, Queens, it can often be difficult to find a spot that retains the authentic, unpretentious spirit of "Old New York." Sweets Bakery Cafe, located on the bustling Northern Boulevard, is exactly that kind of place. Far from the high-concept, minimalist aesthetic of modern Manhattan coffee shops, this establishment prides itself on being a straightforward, functional, and deeply flavorful "hole in the wall." For locals who have lived in the area for years, and for newcomers looking for a genuine taste of the neighborhood, Sweets Bakery Cafe serves as a reliable anchor for traditional Chinese bakery items and hearty, home-style meals.
The charm of Sweets Bakery Cafe lies in its lack of pretense. It is a business that focuses on the fundamentals: serving food that is both delicious and affordable. In a city where a simple breakfast can often break the bank, this cafe offers a refreshing alternative, providing substantial portions at prices that reflect its commitment to the local community. It is the kind of place where regulars know exactly what they want before they even step through the door, and where the atmosphere is defined by the steady hum of a working kitchen and the casual chatter of neighbors. For those who appreciate the "hidden gem" or "hidden in plain sight" category of New York dining, this cafe is a must-visit destination that prioritizes taste over trends.
Location and Accessibility
Sweets Bakery Cafe is conveniently located at 144-06 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. This location puts it in the heart of one of the most vibrant and culturally rich sections of the Bronx-Queens corridor. Northern Boulevard is a major artery for the region, making the cafe an easy stop for those commuting by car or using the extensive local bus network. Its position in the 11354 zip code ensures it is surrounded by the energy of Flushing’s commercial district while remaining accessible to the residential pockets nearby.
For those utilizing public transportation, the cafe is served by multiple bus lines, including the Q12, Q13, Q15, and Q66, which provide direct links to the Flushing-Main Street subway station (7 Train) and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). For local residents walking from the nearby Murray Hill area, the cafe is a manageable stroll away. While parking on Northern Boulevard can be competitive during peak hours, the high turnover of a "grab-and-go" style bakery means that spots often open up for those looking to pick up a quick breakfast or a hot lunch. The accessibility of the location makes it an ideal pitstop for anyone navigating the northern reaches of Queens.

What is Worth Choosing
When you visit Sweets Bakery Cafe, the menu offers several standout items that have earned the loyalty of the Flushing community. For a hearty lunch or dinner, the Sacha Beef over rice is a top-tier choice. The rich, savory umami of the Sacha sauce pairs perfectly with the tender beef, creating a comforting dish that is particularly satisfying during the colder New York months. Another local favorite is the Beancurd with Shredded Pork, a dish that balances textures and flavors with traditional expertise. If you are in the mood for something warm and liquid, the Beef Noodle Soup is frequently cited as a go-to comfort food, featuring a robust broth that reflects hours of careful preparation.
For those looking to explore unique beverage options, the Ume tea is a distinctive highlight. While its specific flavor profile might not be for everyone, it is highly recommended for those who enjoy traditional East Asian plum flavors—it is both refreshing and serves as a great palate cleanser after a savory meal. For breakfast, sticking to the "old school" Chinese bakery items like fresh buns is a great way to experience the bakery side of the business. While the service is famously direct and without unnecessary flourish, the food speaks for itself. Whether you prefer regular noodles or have a specific preference for rice noodles, ensure you communicate your order clearly to enjoy the full experience of this Northern Boulevard staple. For anyone seeking delicious, affordable, and authentic food without the frills of a modern bistro, Sweets Bakery Cafe is a true Bronx-to-Queens hidden gem worth discovering.

This place is delicious and affordable. Don't know why it has a low rating. I'm not sure what they're expecting really. I'm assuming its ppl who either have no idea what they're talking about or they're simply getting the wrong idea of this place: It's not a fancy place at all, more like a hole in the wall; This place is old school but that's why it's so good. It's got delicious Chinese bakery for breakfast and delicious food. The beancurd with shredded pork, beef noodle soup, Sacha Beef over rice dishes are my absolute Favs. They also have this delicious Ume tea which I love but I know it's not for everyone. Other than that? This place is for everyone. See yall there. 😋🍻

I’ve been ordering from this place for two years because my boss likes this place. The taste of the food overall is a little heavy for me. I usually order the pork w/preserved vegetables with rice noodles. I don’t like regular noodles. Today they made my order wrong with regular noodles instead of rice noodles. So I called them, explained to them. After their background discussions in which I don’t understand. Their final response was “ what do you want then? just eat what you got”. No explanation and no apology! That’s it. Not going back anymore.

This is my ultimate go-to place around my neighborhood because it's one of those higher quality yet affordable Chinese food that they offer. The cashier ladies are very nice :) Almost all of their dishes are incredibly delicious and comes with a soda or water! I would definitely recommend their tri-pepper fish (if you like it spicy), fish with tofu, shrimp and broccoli and beef noodle soup. These are all the dishes that I've tried so far that I love! The only thing that I would say they can improve on is their regular flavored bubble tea, it's just not good and definitely not worth buying.

A pretty nice Cantonese restaurant. Service was friendly and quick. Some are overpriced but most are fair.

They serve Chinese food with a free drink, I’ll tell a not so secret tip: if you ask for soup instead of a free drink they’ll give you that day’s soup that they made. The baked goods are also delicious. The owner opens the bakery very early and all the goods are baked fresh each day to be displayed. I love the Portuguese custard tarts. It has an authentic flavor.
