The French Workshop Introduce
In the bustling heart of Astoria, Queens, The French Workshop stands as a beacon of culinary elegance and traditional European craftsmanship. For New Yorkers who appreciate the finer details of a perfectly laminated croissant or a meticulously decorated tart, this bakery offers a sophisticated escape from the frantic pace of city life. Designed with an open-kitchen concept, it allows patrons to witness the artistry of baking in real-time, bridging the gap between the flour-dusted workstations of the chefs and the polished marble counters of the storefront. This establishment has quickly become a cornerstone of the Broadway corridor, attracting a diverse crowd ranging from morning commuters in search of a premium latte to families gathering for weekend treats.
The philosophy at The French Workshop revolves around the marriage of high-quality ingredients and time-honored techniques. The atmosphere is undeniably upscale, featuring an aesthetic that blends industrial chic with the warmth of a traditional Parisian boulangerie. Large glass display cases house an array of vibrant pastries, artisanal breads, and decadent cakes, each serving as a testament to the bakery's commitment to visual and gastronomic excellence. For the local Astoria community, it provides a reliable venue for both daily indulgences and special celebrations, maintaining a standard of quality that rivals the top-tier patisseries of Manhattan while retaining the welcoming spirit of a neighborhood favorite.
Location and Accessibility
The French Workshop is ideally situated at 25-33 Broadway, Astoria, NY 11106, USA. Located on one of Astoria's most iconic and active thoroughfares, the bakery is perfectly positioned for maximum accessibility. Broadway is known for its eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, and bars, making the workshop a natural stop for those spending a day exploring the neighborhood. For local residents, it is a convenient walk from the surrounding residential blocks, contributing to the walkable, community-centric vibe that Astoria is famous for.
For those traveling from other parts of New York City, the bakery is exceptionally well-connected to public transportation. It is located just steps away from the Broadway subway station, which is serviced by the N and W trains. This proximity makes it an easy destination for those coming from Long Island City, Sunnyside, or even Midtown Manhattan. Additionally, several local bus routes traverse Broadway and the intersecting streets, providing multiple points of entry for visitors. While street parking in Astoria is notoriously competitive, the high turnover of the surrounding commercial area occasionally offers spots for those driving in, though public transit remains the most stress-free way to visit this popular dessert destination.

What is worth choosing
When visiting The French Workshop, the "must-try" experience begins with their extensive cookie collection. Locals highly recommend doing a personal "taste test" of the various cookies available in the display cases, which are celebrated for their perfect textures and rich flavors. From classic chocolate chip to more refined European styles, the cookies represent an accessible entry point into the bakery's high-quality offerings. For those on a budget or looking to sample multiple items, the mini-pastries are an excellent choice; at approximately $5 for a combination of sizes, they provide a cost-effective way to enjoy the workshop's premium craftsmanship without committing to a single large dessert.
For those with specific dietary requirements, the bakery's vegan and gluten-free selections are particularly noteworthy. Unlike many shops where such items feel like an afterthought, The French Workshop provides visually appealing and flavorful alternatives that stand up to their traditional counterparts. If you are a coffee lover, the lattes are a staple, though it is worth noting for the lactose-intolerant community that there is currently a surcharge for milk alternatives (approximately $0.95). Despite this, the quality of the brew and the elegance of the setting make it a premier spot for a caffeine fix. Lastly, for a truly special treat, inquire about their chocolate bars imported from Belgium—they make for an incredible gift or a sophisticated pantry staple. While the service can occasionally be described as more "passive" than "active," the quality of the food and the beauty of the venue more than make up for the laid-back pace, allowing you to savor your treats in a truly beautiful Astoria environment.

Attractive elegant venue with yummy pastries and good coffee. They are pretty good about confirming allergens in product ingredients, and go so far as to consult the chefs in the back. It costs $0.95 to be lactose intolerant 😢 Starbucks eliminated their upcharge for milk alternatives, hopefully the Workshop does too. I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys 2 lattes a day.

So good! I loved doing a taste test of the cookies. They have incredible pastry cases cookies and even chocolate bars from I want to say Belgium. I got two mini and one big one and it was $5. Which is good! Also they have vegan and gluten free. I took photos so you can see examples if you are vegan and / or gluten free! The service behind was more passive than active.

Desserts 4/5 Service 4.5/5 Ambiance 5/5 This spot offers beautifully made pastries that they are less overwhelmingly sweet than many other French bakeries. The quality is decent, with the fruits consistently fresh and every item thoughtfully constructed and reasonably priced The Raspberry Cake (4.25/5): Probably my favorite out of them all. I loved the cream to cake balance and the very generous amount of fresh raspberries Berry Fruit Tart (4.25/5): Wonderfully creamy with an abundance of fresh fruit on top Pistachio Cake (4/5): The pistachio element was a little on the sweeter side, but I loved being able to taste and feel the pistachio pieces in every bite

All the cakes looked so pretty but my daughter got tiramisu and I got fruits tart. It was pretty good but my daughter was disappointed that the top of the tiramisu was meringue not whipped cream! I guess we shouldn’t have assumed lol.
