Grandaisy Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the heart of Manhattan’s sophisticated Tribeca neighborhood, Grandaisy Bakery stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional Italian baking. Located at 250 W Broadway, this cherished local institution has carved out a unique identity as a "community bakery," blending old-world craftsmanship with modern New York sensibilities. Originally rooted in the storied history of the Sullivan Street Bakery, Grandaisy was born when founder Monica Von Thun Calderón established the brand in 2006, naming it in honor of her grandmother, Daisy. Today, it is widely recognized by New Yorkers as a premier destination for high-quality, handcrafted breads and authentic Roman-style flatbread pizzas.
Walking into Grandaisy Bakery, the first thing that strikes you is the warmth of the space and the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked dough. Unlike many commercial bakeries that rely on artificial enhancers, Grandaisy prides itself on a "simple ingredients" philosophy—flour, water, salt, and natural sourdough starters are the heroes here. This dedication to quality has earned the bakery numerous accolades, including top prizes at the World Bread Awards for their ciabatta and pizza bianca. Whether you are a local regular picking up a daily filone or a visitor stopping by after a trip to the nearby historic Ghostbusters firehouse, Grandaisy offers a slice of Italian tradition that feels both elegant and deeply welcoming.
Location and Accessibility
Grandaisy Bakery is perfectly situated at 250 W Broadway, New York, NY 10013, USA, making it a central hub for those residing in or visiting the Lower Manhattan area. Its location in Tribeca puts it within a short walking distance of SoHo, the Financial District, and the West Village. For local users navigating the city via public transit, the bakery is exceptionally accessible. It is just steps away from the Canal Street subway complex, providing easy access to the 1, A, C, and E lines. Furthermore, the Franklin Street station (1 train) is only a few blocks south, making it a convenient stop for commuters and residents alike.
The bakery occupies a quaint, street-level space that invites passersby with its large windows and classic signage. While the interior is cozy and "quaint," as many patrons describe it, the shop features counter seating along the windows and small tables that offer a quiet, civilized space to enjoy a quick bite. Although street parking in Tribeca is notoriously competitive, the bakery's high walkability and proximity to major transit lines ensure that it remains a high-traffic destination. The shop is also known for being kid-friendly and a favorite for neighborhood regulars who appreciate the personalized, friendly service that makes this busy Manhattan corner feel like a close-knit village.

What is worth choosing
If you are visiting Grandaisy Bakery for the first time, the "Pizza Bianca" is an essential starting point. This Roman staple is a dimpled flatbread finished with olive oil, salt, and fresh rosemary; it is simple, airy, and addictive. For those seeking a more substantial meal, the "Panino di Colazione" (breakfast sandwich) is a local favorite, often toasted to perfection upon request. The bakery also excels at seasonal Roman pizza slices; the potato and rosemary pizza is frequently praised for its authentic flavor that transports diners straight to the streets of Italy. For a heartier lunch, the tuna sandwich is a standout, blending Mediterranean influences with fresh celery, white beans, and lemon on their signature soft bread.
For those with a sweet tooth, the "Pandan" sponge cake (if available seasonally) or the "Lumaca"—a flaky pastry filled with apricot jam, currants, and walnuts—are excellent choices. Don't overlook the flourless chocolate cake or the almond pound cake (Torta Grandaisy), which are rich, decadent, and perfect for pairing with a well-made latte. If you're picking up items for later, a bag of their anise-almond biscotti is a classic choice that keeps well. Regardless of what you choose, the key to the Grandaisy experience is the bread itself. Taking home a "Filone" or a "Pugliese" loaf ensures you can enjoy the bakery's artisan craftsmanship long after you've left the cozy confines of their West Broadway storefront. With prices that remain surprisingly fair for such a premium location, it’s worth trying a few different items to discover your own personal favorite.

Short walk from the hotel I was stay at. It was very busy when I got there, which is always a good sign. Small menu, but sometimes that's ok. Enjoyed the panino di colazione. I was too stuffed to try the cream cheese pastry I also purchased. Chai latte was good. I was surprised by the pricing for the area. I paid double the day before somewhere else.

My husband and I stopped in randomly after viewing a local hotspot (read Ghostbusters station). I saw the bakery sign and we went it for a quick bite not even realizing what it was. It was a small, quaint space but so warming and loving. I recognized some of the words of items from learning French (they use Italian which is totally awesome). The gal in the morning on Dec 30 was so sweet and kind. When we were there a small rush of folks came in and she handled everything with kindness and care the way we are use to in Kansas

The staff are warm, welcoming and vibrant. I’ve being stopping every weekend for my bread and lattes. True artisans at their craft and with such love and joy. Breads are the best in the city. Love this absolute treasure of downtown. Keeps a smile on my face when I arrive and depart. Thank you!

Very cozy bakery! Has a good selection of breads, pastries, and sandwiches! The prices are pretty good. There are tables and chairs inside, but wouldn’t be the best for a big group. Pretty quiet space.

Folks know how to do a memorable tuna sandwich which was a mix between the good old American tuna version and a Mediterranean one reminding me of the world famous Tunisian sandwich. The tuna was flavorful, the celery fresh and crisp, the parsley came as a nice addition consistent with the European culinary traditions, the white beans gave it a wonderful starchy note nicely finished by the lemon taste. The bread softness transported me to paradise. Throughout the years I have tasted everything in the bakery and have yet to be disappointed. My favorite items remain the potato and rosemary pizza reminding me of the Roman staple found everywhere in the "Eternal City" and the chocolate cake which you shall become addicted to. The service is always genuine and in high spirits : the team is dancing but focused, dedicated and super fast. Always an immense pleasure to patronize Grandaisy bakery. I am forever their loyal customer, fan and supporter !
