John's Famous Bagels & Deli Introduce
For residents of Rockland County, the morning routine often centers around finding that perfect New York staple: the fresh bagel. John's Famous Bagels & Deli, located in the bustling community of New City, New York, is a long-standing participant in this competitive local landscape. As a neighborhood deli and bagel shop, it serves a diverse demographic of New York locals, ranging from early-morning commuters headed toward the city to fitness enthusiasts training in the nearby plazas. In a region where every resident has a strong opinion on what makes a bagel "famous" or "authentic," John's Famous Bagels & Deli provides a traditional deli environment that aims to capture the essence of a classic suburban New York breakfast spot.
The shop operates with the grit and straightforwardness typical of Rockland County eateries. It serves as a convenient crossroads for those living in New City, Bardonia, and West Nyack. While New York is famous for its high-speed service, John's offers a pace that allows for a more casual, neighborhood feel, though local feedback suggests that the speed of service can vary depending on the morning rush. The establishment focuses on the core components of a deli menu, providing a wide array of options that go beyond just bread and cream cheese. For many in the 10956 area, it is a familiar landmark on South Little Tor Road, offering a consistent physical presence in a rapidly changing suburban landscape. Whether you are looking for a quick cup of coffee or a hearty sandwich to start your weekend, this deli remains a key player in the local food scene.
Location and Accessibility
John's Famous Bagels & Deli is strategically situated at 305s South Little Tor Road, New City, NY 10956, USA. This location is highly advantageous for local residents as it sits along a major North-South artery in Rockland County. For New York drivers, accessibility is a primary concern, and this shop is positioned within a well-traveled plaza that offers convenient parking for those looking to "pop in and out" during their morning commute. Its proximity to local gyms and professional offices makes it a frequent stop for people who are already active within the same shopping center.
The shop is easily reachable from the Palisades Interstate Parkway and is just a short drive from the center of New City’s main business district. For those navigating the suburbs of New York, having a deli located on a main road like Little Tor is a significant benefit, as it eliminates the need for complex navigation through residential side streets. The storefront is visible to passing traffic, and its location within a shared plaza ensures that customers can combine their bagel run with other local errands, such as fitness training or grocery shopping. This ease of access contributes to its status as a habitual stop for many Rockland County neighbors.

What is worth choosing
When visiting John's Famous Bagels & Deli, the most frequent choice among New Yorkers is the quintessential bacon, egg, and cheese. For those who prefer a more substantial breakfast, requesting two eggs on a roll or bagel is a common modification. However, as is the case with many high-volume local delis, it is worth being specific with your order to ensure the kitchen meets your expectations regarding textures—such as requesting the bacon to be extra crispy if that is your preference. Given the competitive nature of the New City bagel market, many locals find that the strength of this shop lies in its convenience and its ability to provide a classic, fatty bacon sandwich that hits the spot after a workout in the same plaza.
Another popular choice for the more discerning palate is the Lox and Cream Cheese sandwich. Traditionally one of the pricier items on a New York bagel menu, it is a staple for weekend brunches. When ordering this specialty, it is advisable to ensure you are clear about your preferences for the amount of cream cheese and the arrangement of the tomato and onion toppings. While the shop has seen varied feedback regarding the generosity of their spreads, many regular customers appreciate the familiarity and the "no-frills" service that characterizes this local establishment. For those who live or work along South Little Tor Road, John's offers a reliable, accessible option for a quick New York fix. If you are in the 10956 zip code and looking for a straightforward deli experience without the pretense of a high-end cafe, this shop remains a functional part of the New City community. I guess I understand why this place averages 3 1/2 stars. I paid $11.48 for a bacon egg and cheese and a drink. I did ask for two eggs on the roll. I only got one, but I don’t know if I was actually charged for two. The bacon was not crispy, but it was plenty fatty. And who doesn’t like a little eggshell in their bacon egg and cheese? Something was a little gritty and when I pulled it out of my mouth, it was white, so I’m assuming it was an eggshell. overall, I thought the service was a little bit slow. There were a couple of people in there, but they weren’t rushing that’s for sure. Definitely a disappointing sandwich. I usually go to the other bagel place just down the road, I won’t be a jerk and name it in this review, but I train in the same plaza and I happen to be there this morning and just figured how can they possibly screw up a bacon egg and cheese. well now I have my answer.

I've had generally good experiences with John's, hence the 4 stars. Today was the first real disappointment. Lox and cream cheese with tomato, onion, etc. is generally one of your pricier breakfast sandwich options, and you folks usually make a good one. Today, not so much. The sandwich I received today has barely a smear of cream cheese. For the money, I expect you to do better.

This place is literally spotless and their food is fantastic, love their bagels and Flagels so and they couldn’t be more friendly, they’re always aiming to please!!! For someone to say that there’s mold on the cheese and it’s filthy. It has to be a personal issue because that is so not true with my experience and I go there quite a bit. I’m not trying to put anyone down or be rude in any way but owning a service business for over 30 years I personally don’t give negative (only positive) reviews. It could literally ruin someone’s hard work and a huge investment!!! I just won’t go back after the 2nd visit( everyone is entitled to have a bad day)!!! I will always give a business the benefit of the doubt! So sorry but I felt the need to give this review!!! They truly are wonderful people!!!

Ordered tuna on a flagel. I asked the owner if the tuna was white meat and he said of course. When I opened the bag at home, the tuna was dark and very fishy and the bagel was stale. I called the store and owner argued with me. I brought the bagel back and he said no one ever complains about his tuna And said he works hard for his money and will give me back my money only this time . I argued back and said we all work hard for our money and the bagel was $10.84 keep the 84 cents and left. He is a nasty condescending person! Go to David’s or Goldbergs.

Been coming here for a longggg time, even when they were at their last location but today will be my last. $13 for tuna on a bagel is outrageous. Stale bagels and barely an average amount of tuna. Definitely a huge fall from where the food service and prices used to be. Just go 2 mins down the street to bagel boys! Better food and much more affordably fair prices.
