Kabul Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the quiet, industrious streets of College Point, Queens, lies a culinary treasure that transports visitors thousands of miles away with a single scent. Kabul Bakery is a specialized establishment dedicated to the art of traditional Afghan bread-making. In a city where "artisanal" bread is often a marketing term, Kabul Bakery defines the word through authentic practice, focusing on high-volume, high-quality production of the staple flatbreads that are central to Afghan culture. This is not your typical neighborhood pastry shop; it is a working bakery where the oven is the heart of the operation and the product is served at its absolute peak of freshness.
For New Yorkers who appreciate the diverse food landscape of the five boroughs, Kabul Bakery represents an essential stop. It caters to a community that values the specific texture and flavor of naan and other Afghan breads—items that are notoriously difficult to replicate in a standard home kitchen. The bakery has earned a reputation for its unwavering commitment to tradition. Local patrons often describe the experience as "incredible," noting that the quality of the bread makes them feel as if they are in Afghanistan rather than in a corner of Queens. Whether you are a member of the local Afghan diaspora or a food enthusiast seeking the best authentic breads in the city, this bakery offers a window into a rich culinary heritage through the simplest of ingredients: flour, water, salt, and heat.
Location and Accessibility
Kabul Bakery is located at 121-16 14th Rd, College Point, NY 11356, USA. Tucked away on 14th Road, just off the main thoroughfares of College Point, the bakery sits in a neighborhood known for its residential charm blended with commercial utility. For residents of Flushing, Whitestone, and Bayside, the bakery is just a short drive away, making it a convenient destination for stocking up on fresh bread for the week. Its location in Northern Queens provides a sense of a "hidden gem" that rewards those who venture slightly off the beaten path of the more crowded commercial districts.
Accessibility for motorists is relatively straightforward, with street parking typically available in the surrounding area. For those relying on public transportation, the Q25 and Q65 bus lines serve the College Point area, providing connections from the 7 train at Main Street, Flushing. The bakery's storefront is modest and focused on the product, emphasizing the "no-frills" nature of an authentic traditional bakery. It is a place designed for efficiency and freshness, where the primary goal is getting the warm, steaming bread from the oven into the hands of the customer as quickly as possible.
Services Offered
- Fresh Daily Baking: The bakery operates with a focus on high-frequency baking cycles, ensuring that bread is available warm throughout the day.
- Traditional Afghan Bread Production: Specializing in large-format Afghan flatbreads, characterized by their unique elongated shape and textured surface.
- Bulk Orders: The bakery is equipped to handle larger orders for families or community gatherings, providing fresh bread by the dozen upon request.
- Authentic Afghan Naan: Production of traditional naan, often seasoned with seeds or distinct patterns that are hallmark features of regional Afghan styles.
- Wholesale Supply: While primarily serving the local community, the bakery often acts as a supplier for local Middle Eastern and Central Asian grocery stores and restaurants in the Queens area.
- Personalized Service: The staff is known for their friendly demeanor, often accommodating customers who are looking for specific levels of "doneness" or crispness in their bread.
Features / Highlights
- The "Warmth" Factor: One of the most frequently cited highlights is the temperature of the bread; it is almost always served warm, which enhances the aroma and soft interior texture.
- Authenticity: Many customers emphasize that the taste is indistinguishable from the bread found in Afghanistan, making it a cultural touchstone for the local community.
- Scale and Size: The loaves at Kabul Bakery are notably large. A single "huge bread" is often enough to feed a small group or serve as the centerpiece of a meal.
- Simple Ingredients, Complex Flavor: By focusing on traditional methods, the bakery achieves a complex, slightly nutty flavor and a perfect char that only a specialized high-heat oven can provide.
- Visual Appeal: The bread often features traditional scoring or sesame seed toppings, making the loaves as beautiful as they are delicious.
- Community Hub: The bakery serves as a vital resource for the Afghan and broader Middle Eastern community in Queens, preserving food traditions in a modern New York setting.

What is worth choosing
When you visit Kabul Bakery, there is one absolute priority: the Fresh Afghan Naan. This bread is the undisputed star of the show. It is worth choosing specifically because of its dual texture—crispy and slightly charred on the outside from the high heat of the oven, yet incredibly soft and pillowy on the inside. Many locals recommend buying at least two loaves; one to take home for a meal, and one to "snack on" during the drive back, as the temptation of the warm dough is often too much to resist. Customers frequently note that they have "finished the huge bread all to myself" because it is simply that good when eaten fresh.
Furthermore, if they have variations available with sesame seeds or black caraway seeds, those are highly recommended for the added layer of earthy flavor they provide. This bread is the perfect accompaniment to traditional Afghan dishes like Kabuli Pulao, stews, or even just enjoyed simply with a bit of butter or honey. If you are a fan of high-quality, authentic carbs, Kabul Bakery is worth the trip to College Point. In a city of millions, finding a place that does one thing—bread—with such perfection and cultural integrity is a rare and rewarding experience. For anyone who thinks all bread is created equal, a single warm loaf from Kabul Bakery will quickly prove them "clueless" and convert them into a regular patron.

By far the best afghan bread in town. The most consistently, delicious and fluffy bread. Perfect with Kabab’s, eggs, muraba, whatever.

They only do Flat bread ... a bread between a pretzel and pizza ... it's un Rosen ... exactly what mid eastern people eat daily ... like in church, your daily bread ... the Eucharist is actually this style bread that the Muslim community depend on. Owner is nice and open to the public ... huge pieces of rectangular bread fresh daily! They do a lot of wholesale but two pieces for 5 bucks ... it feels like you're carrying two pair of pants ... yeah that big and delicious! I use it as a pizza base ... and it's good.
