Ray's Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the diverse neighborhood of Richmond Hill, Queens, local businesses often serve as the cultural backbone of the community. Ray's Bakery, located on the bustling Jamaica Avenue, is one such establishment that has been a part of the local landscape for years. This small neighborhood bakery specializes in traditional West Indian baked goods and Caribbean-inspired snacks, catering to a community that values the specific flavors and textures of the islands. For those living in the New York region, especially in the outer boroughs, these small, specialized bakeries are essential for finding items that are rarely available in mainstream supermarkets.
Ray's Bakery recently underwent renovations to modernize its small space, though it retains the unpretentious, local feel that many long-time residents of Richmond Hill appreciate. It is known primarily for its selection of traditional breads and savory items that reflect the Guyanese and broader West Indian heritage of the area. While it may not have the expansive footprint of a commercial chain, its focus on specific, culturally relevant products makes it a notable stop for those specifically seeking authentic flavors. However, like many historic neighborhood spots in New York, it operates with a traditional approach to business that visitors should keep in mind before heading out for their morning bread.
Location and Accessibility
Conveniently situated at 123-25 Jamaica Ave, Richmond Hill, NY 11418, Ray's Bakery is positioned in a high-traffic area that is exceptionally easy to reach via public transportation—a major plus for any New Yorker. Accessibility is one of the shop's strongest suits, as it is located in close proximity to several major transit lines. For those commuting via the subway, the bakery is near the J Train, which serves as a vital link between Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. This makes it an easy stop for residents heading to work or returning home in the evening.
In addition to the subway, the bakery is well-served by the local bus network. The Q10 and Q56 buses both have stops nearby, providing easy access for those traveling within the Richmond Hill and Jamaica areas. For those driving, the bakery is located on a busy stretch of Jamaica Avenue, where street parking can be competitive, as is common in this part of Queens. The surrounding area is a vibrant mix of retail shops and services, making Ray's Bakery a natural part of a multi-stop errand run. The recently renovated storefront is a recognizable part of the streetscape, standing among the many diverse businesses that define this section of the borough.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Ray's Bakery, the items most worth your attention are the traditional Caribbean staples that are the foundation of their business. Specifically, their Fried Channa and Cassava Pone are worth trying if you are looking for a genuine taste of West Indian snacking. These items are prepared according to traditional recipes and offer a flavor profile that is distinct from standard American bakery fare. For many, these represent the comfort foods of home, and Ray's Bakery provides them at a price point that is highly competitive within the Richmond Hill market.
However, it is important to go prepared when visiting this establishment. Ray's Bakery is a cash-only business; they do not accept credit or debit cards, so ensuring you have physical currency on hand is essential for a smooth transaction. Additionally, visitors should be aware that it is a small-scale operation focused on daily retail; they do not offer specialty services like wedding cakes. Local feedback also suggests that customers should be attentive during the checkout process and verify pricing, as some patrons have reported inconsistencies in the daily cost of items like bread and tennis rolls. For the best experience, it is recommended to visit earlier in the day when the bread is at its freshest and the full variety of traditional snacks is available. By keeping these local tips in mind, you can enjoy the authentic, low-cost Caribbean flavors that Ray's Bakery has contributed to Jamaica Avenue for many years.
Ultimately, Ray's Bakery is a destination for those who prioritize specific cultural products and value a neighborhood atmosphere. Whether you are picking up a pack of tennis rolls for breakfast or looking for a traditional sweet pastry like Mithai, this Richmond Hill spot offers a glimpse into the diverse culinary traditions that make Queens one of the most unique places to live and eat in the world.

The cashier charge me different price for bread or tennis roll every time. She switch up the price each and every time. They never have change and they never give you back correct money back. I'll describe them as BAIT AND SWITCH. They charge me $5 for a pack of tennis roll. $5 for a loaf of bread. Another day she charge me $2. For bread $2 for tennis roll, and so the price changes constantly. I once got expired or stale products from them. We all work hard for our money's and we expect to get what our money's worth. I never went to a store to purchase anything and always being told by the cashier that they don't have change, and always getting short change consistently. The owner or manager never on premises to make any complaints. Customers should be aware or these circumstances and terrible services provided by rays bakery.

Ray's Bakery is a small Bakery which was recently been renovated. Among the things which they prepared here are Bread, Fried Channa (Chickpeas), Mithai, Cassava pone & Sweet Pastries. Their prices are lower than other Bakeries. Ray's Bakery is near to the J Train, Q10 & Q56 Buses. They don't make Wedding Cakes. Credit & Debit Cards are not accepted. Cash only.
