Rio De La Plata Bakery Shop Introduce
In the vibrant heart of Queens, New York, where the culinary landscape is as diverse as the residents themselves, Rio De La Plata Bakery Shop serves as a dedicated purveyor of traditional Latin American baked goods. Nestled in a bustling section of the borough, this establishment caters to the local community by offering a window into the rich confectionery traditions of the Rio de la Plata region. For New Yorkers seeking authentic flavors that remind them of home, or for curious foodies looking to explore the depth of South American pastry arts, this bakery provides a specialized selection of sweets and savory items that are deeply rooted in cultural heritage.
The bakery is particularly well-regarded for its commitment to traditional techniques, especially when it comes to complex dough preparations and the generous use of authentic ingredients. In a city where quick, processed snacks are around every corner, Rio De La Plata Bakery Shop stands out by focusing on the artisanal quality of its cakes and pastries. The atmosphere is that of a classic neighborhood storefront—functional, busy, and focused on the product. It serves as a vital local resource for birthday celebrations, afternoon snacks, and the simple pleasure of a fresh pastry accompanied by a conversation in the community's native tongue.
Location and Accessibility
Rio De La Plata Bakery Shop is strategically located at 94-65 Corona Ave., Flushing, NY 11373, USA. Despite the Flushing mailing address, the shop is situated in the lively Elmhurst/Corona area, a region of New York City famous for its high concentration of Latin American businesses and exceptional street food. This location makes it highly accessible for local residents who are navigating the neighborhood on foot, as well as for those traveling from other parts of Queens via public transit. The bakery is positioned along a main thoroughfare, ensuring it is a visible landmark for commuters and shoppers alike.
For those utilizing the New York City subway system, the bakery is within reasonable reach of several stops along the 7 train and the M/R lines. Accessibility by car is typical for this part of Queens; while street parking can be competitive during peak hours, the shop’s location on Corona Avenue allows for quick "grab-and-go" stops for those familiar with the local traffic patterns. The storefront is street-level, providing straightforward entry for pedestrians. However, visitors should be aware that the interior space is designed primarily for over-the-counter service rather than long-term lounging, reflecting the fast-paced nature of New York City bakery culture.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Rio De La Plata Bakery Shop, the absolute standout choice is the "Torta de Ojaldre." This cake is a masterclass in the art of the puff pastry, featuring thin, crispy layers of dough that provide a satisfying crunch before melting in the mouth. What makes this cake truly exceptional is the balance of the dough with the Dulce de Leche filling. Customers have noted that the bakery avoids the common pitfall of making the cake overly sugary, instead hitting the perfect sweet spot that allows the quality of the fresh dough to shine through. It is an ideal selection for a birthday or a significant celebration where you want to provide a dessert that is both visually impressive and authentically delicious.
In addition to the signature cakes, it is worth exploring the variety of smaller pastries available in the display cases. These items often showcase the same "ojaldre" technique, offering a lighter alternative to the denser breads found elsewhere. For those who appreciate the traditional flavors of the Southern Cone of South America, the bakery’s commitment to these specific recipes makes it a unique destination in the New York area. While the service style is direct and focused on the transaction, the quality of the baked goods—specifically the freshness of the dough and the richness of the fillings—remains the primary reason why locals continue to return to this Corona Avenue staple.
Navigating the local business scene in Queens often requires knowing exactly what to order at each location, and at Rio De La Plata, the "ojaldre" items are undoubtedly the stars of the show. Whether you are picking up a pre-ordered cake for a sister’s birthday or simply stopping in to see what is fresh in the morning, focusing on the puff pastry selections will yield the best results. It is a place that prioritizes the craft of the baker, ensuring that every slice of cake or bite of pastry delivers a consistent and traditional experience for every New Yorker who walks through the door.

If I could put 0 starts I will. I came to buy some pastries and they kicked me out yelling because my service dog couldn’t be inside. I told them the law protected me that he should know about this. And he closed the door on my face. This was the owner. Rudest person I ever known. Save your time and don’t do business with these type of shady people

This is the closes bakery to what a Argentinian bakery should be. I am from Argentina and this took me back to my childhood. If you are really for sweet, well this is the place, also all sorts of food, empanadas, sandwiches de miga. But the pastry are out of this world, you must try this place, they also have a few tables just in case you want to try something right away

We saw this place on social media. Traveled from NJ for some pastries. WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! The person who took care of us was extremely rude, rushing us through our order when there were no other customers waiting. Don’t waste your time coming here.
