But from outside I was taking a look explaining my kids about La rosca de Reyes and the bakery man was very rude doing signs to me and my kids, I tried to explain that I wasn’t looking at him but he continued doingn rude signs. Not to mention that they weren’t using face mask…. Just saying. What a pity cuz I really like this place. - AK BH

As a family-owned business, it brings a personal touch to the local culinary scene, ensuring that every loaf of bread and every pastry tells a story of craftsmanship and cultural pride.

Primos Bakery Cafe has become a local staple for those who appreciate the nuances of traditional Mexican "pan dulce." In a city as fast-paced as New York, finding a spot that maintains the slow-baked quality of artisanal goods is a true find for residents of the five boroughs. The bakery serves a diverse clientele, from families introducing their children to the history of holiday traditions to daily commuters looking for a high-quality cup of coffee and a fresh snack. While the neighborhood of Corona is known for its incredible street food and diverse eateries, Primos holds its own by specializing in the delicate art of Mexican pastry, providing a sensory experience that begins the moment you step through the door and are greeted by the scent of yeast, sugar, and toasted flour.

What is worth choosing

For anyone stepping into Primos Bakery Cafe, the "concha" is an absolute must-try. These classic Mexican sweet breads are famous for their crunchy, seashell-like sugar topping and soft, airy interior. At Primos, the conchas come in a beautiful array of colors, making them as visually appealing as they are delicious. Many regulars consider them the best in the area, noting that they have the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. Pairing a colorful concha with a hot cup of their well-regarded coffee is the quintessential Primos experience and the perfect way to start a morning in Queens.

During the appropriate season, the Rosca de Reyes is another item that is highly worth choosing. This traditional wreath-shaped bread is a centerpiece for Three Kings Day celebrations, and Primos is known for creating authentic versions that honor the holiday's requirements. Even if you are just passing by the window, the sight of these large, decorated loaves is a highlight of the neighborhood's seasonal landscape. Beyond these specific items, simply exploring the "variety of artisanal Mexican breads" is recommended; the bakery’s strength lies in its ability to offer authentic delicacies that are hard to find elsewhere in such a fresh, handcrafted state. Whether you are looking for a quick snack or a large order for a family gathering, the quality of the bread and the authenticity of the recipes make Primos Bakery Cafe a top destination for pan dulce enthusiasts in New York City.

It is worth noting that like many small, family-run establishments in busy parts of New York, the experience can vary depending on the time of day and the crowd. While the service is often described as amazing and kind, the shop can get busy, and the environment is one of a hardworking, traditional bakery. For the best experience, visit during the morning when the shelves are most full and the bread is at its absolute freshest. Supporting a family-owned business like Primos not only treats your palate to amazing flavors but also helps sustain the cultural tapestry that makes Corona such a unique and vital part of the New York City experience.
