Sans Bakery Introduce
In the rapidly evolving culinary landscape of Long Island City, Sans Bakery has emerged as a beacon of inclusivity and flavor for the New York community. Situated in a borough known for its diverse and demanding food scene, this bakery addresses a vital need: high-quality, artisanal baked goods that are entirely gluten-free. For many New Yorkers, especially those navigating life with Celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, finding a bakery that doesn't compromise on texture or taste can be a challenge. Sans Bakery has successfully bridged this gap, proving that "sans" (French for "without") gluten does not mean without joy. It is a place where the science of baking meets the art of flavor, resulting in treats that appeal to all palates, regardless of dietary restrictions.
The bakery operates with a mission to provide safe, delicious options for the growing number of health-conscious individuals and those with medical dietary requirements in the Astoria and Long Island City neighborhoods. In a city where time is a luxury and quality is a baseline expectation, Sans Bakery has built a reputation for excellence. By focusing on small-batch production and high-quality ingredients, they have elevated gluten-free baking from a niche dietary requirement to a gourmet experience. Whether you are a regular local or someone traveling across the city to find the perfect gift for a gluten-sensitive loved one, the bakery offers a professional yet deeply personal touch to the New York baking tradition.
Location and Accessibility
Sans Bakery is strategically located at 31-00 47th Avenue, within the iconic Falchi Building in Long Island City, NY 11101. The Falchi Building itself is a historic landmark of industrial New York, now repurposed into a vibrant hub for creative businesses and food artisans. This location is exceptionally accessible for residents of Western Queens, including those in nearby Astoria and Sunnyside. For those traveling by public transit, the bakery is within reasonable distance of several subway lines that service the Long Island City area, making it a convenient stop for commuters. The building features an accessible entrance, aligning with the bakery's inclusive philosophy. While the bakery is a primary production space, its presence in the Falchi Building allows it to be part of a larger community of New York makers, contributing to the local flavor of the neighborhood. It is important for visitors to note that while they are located in this bustling hub, checking for their latest availability is always a good idea, as their popularity often leads to daily sell-outs.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Sans Bakery, there are a few standout items that have earned legendary status among the New York gluten-free community. The Raspberry Bars are an absolute must-try. These bars are frequently cited by regulars as a life-changing discovery for those new to the gluten-free lifestyle. They offer a perfect balance of tart raspberry filling and a buttery, crumbly crust that satisfies the craving for a traditional fruit square without any of the gluten. They are moist, flavorful, and have become a signature item for the brand.
Another phenomenal choice is the Chocolate Muffin. This is not your average bakery muffin; it is described by customers as incredibly rich and dark, with a slightly chewy interior and a delightfully crunchy top. The texture is so precise that many are surprised to learn it is gluten-free. For those who appreciate a deep cocoa flavor and a muffin that feels substantial rather than airy, this is the definitive choice. Because the bakery prioritizes quality and operates with flexible hours based on production, being "lucky enough" to snag one of these muffins is considered a highlight of any trip to Long Island City. Whether you are treating yourself or looking for a safe and delicious option for a family member with Celiac, choosing Sans Bakery's signature bars or muffins ensures an experience that is top-tier by any New York standard. Every bite reflects the bakery's dedication to making the gluten-free life one of indulgence rather than deprivation.
In summary, Sans Bakery is a vital part of the Long Island City food landscape. It offers a level of professional baking that honors the traditions of New York while embracing the necessary innovations of the gluten-free world. Its commitment to safety, flavor, and community makes it a premier destination for anyone seeking high-quality treats in the Queens area. My mother was recently diagnosed with Celiac, so finding safe gluten free places is new for us. She absolutely loved the Raspberry Bars! I love seeing more gluten-free friendly places cropping up around Astoria, and Sans is definitely on the top of my list!!

No formal opening hours but I was lucky enough to get a chocolate muffin which is one of the most delicious things I have ever put in my mouth. Rich, dark, slightly chewy inside, crunchy on top. Phenomenal.

I can't give Sans Bakery enough compliments! Their service and care about items shipped is better than anyone I have dealt with past present and probably future. My sister wanted to order a Lamington cakes for my birthday. Brian made sure I was shipped what my sister had ordered; the six individual cakes that are wrapped(I thought it was the cake). However, UPS in their divine wisdom, deemed it necessary to ship them on a scenic tour. They didn't arrive on time for my birthday but that was NO FAULT of the bakery's. I want that to be perfectly clear. I reached out to Brian and while I was disappointed that I wouldn't get them on time he was so kind and empathetic that I couldn't stay upset for long. Again, I thought it was the regular cake and not the individual ones. Brian said he would ship replacements but once I saw they were the individual ones and confirmed they were still fine to eat, I was happy, my sister was happy, all was well. But Brian wasn't having it, he was unhappy that UPS failed us both. Imagine my surprise when a few days later I received another box of the Lamington cakes! I was not expecting that. I was perfectly fine with the outcome but Brian again is an amazing person and he didn't appreciate that this was a representation of his bakery by UPS's failings. So now I have plenty of Lamington cakes and they are freezable so I put a few away so I can enjoy them later. As far as being true Lamington cake like the original in Australia, it took me right back to Adelaide where I had my very first one! Oh my goodness they're so good! And did I mention they're gluten-free?! I cannot thank Brian and Sans Bakery enough for making my Unbirthday amazing and tickling my palette enough that I sent pictures to my cousin in Melbourne Australia taunting her a little. She can pick them up at the Woolworth. ;-)
