Doughnut Plant Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For over three decades, Doughnut Plant has served as a pioneer in the New York City artisanal dessert scene, transforming the humble doughnut from a simple breakfast staple into a gourmet culinary experience. Founded in 1994 by Mark Isreal, who began baking using his grandfather’s 1910 recipe in a Lower East Side basement, the brand has grown into a citywide phenomenon. The Long Island City location, situated within the historic Falchi Building, serves a dual purpose: it is both a welcoming neighborhood cafe and the central headquarters where every single doughnut for their various New York locations is handmade daily. This ensures that when you step into the LIC shop, you are at the very heart of the operation, experiencing the freshest possible versions of their iconic creations.
Doughnut Plant is widely credited with inventing the world's first Crème Brûlée doughnut and the square-filled doughnut, innovations that have since been emulated globally. Their philosophy centers on using all-natural ingredients with no preservatives, artificial flavorings, or eggs. This commitment to quality extends to their inclusive menu, which features an impressive array of sourdough-based vegan doughnuts and gum-free gluten-free cake doughnuts. Whether you consider it a "sanctuary" for your sweet tooth or a daily stop for small-batch roasted coffee, the Long Island City location offers a spacious, modern environment that captures the industrious spirit of Queens while delivering world-class flavors.
Location and Accessibility
Doughnut Plant Long Island City is located at 31-00 47th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101, USA. It is prominently housed in the Falchi Building, a massive revitalized industrial structure that is now a hub for technology, food, and creative offices. This location is particularly convenient for those working in the Sunnyside and Long Island City business districts, providing a perfect spot for morning coffee runs or for picking up a dozen treats for the office. The shop is easily accessible via the 7 train (33rd St-Rawson St station) or the M and R trains (36th St station), both of which are within a manageable walking distance. For those traveling by car, the building’s location near the Long Island Expressway and the Queensboro Bridge makes it a strategic stop for commuters entering or leaving Manhattan.
The shop itself is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring an entrance that is level with the street or accessible via the Falchi Building’s main corridors. Inside, the layout is spacious, allowing for comfortable movement even during the busy morning and weekend rushes. The hours of operation are tailored to the New York lifestyle, opening as early as 6:30 AM daily to serve early birds and staying open until 6:00 PM on weekdays and 7:00 PM on weekends. Whether you are a local resident or a traveler passing through the borough, the LIC location provides a consistent and accessible gateway to some of the city's most beloved sweets.

- Friendly Neighborhood Staff: The team, including frequently mentioned staff like Mosanding, is known for providing personalized recommendations and a warm, welcoming experience.
- Artistic Decor: The LIC location features the brand's signature "doughnut pillows" and creative decor that makes it a highly photographed and "Instagrammable" spot.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Doughnut Plant for the first time, it is almost mandatory to try the Crème Brûlée. It is their signature for a reason; the satisfying "crack" of the torched sugar topping combined with the rich custard inside creates a texture contrast that is unmatched in the world of fried dough. For those who prefer a more traditional but elevated flavor, the Brooklyn Blackout is a magnificent tribute to the borough’s chocolate history. This chocolate cake doughnut is dipped in Valrhona chocolate, filled with chocolate pudding, and topped with chocolate cake crumbs—a true "triple threat" for chocolate lovers. If you happen to be visiting with a friend or in a group, asking the staff for their "selects" or seasonal recommendations is always a wise move, as the bakery rotates flavors monthly based on what fruits and nuts are in peak season.
For those with dietary restrictions, do not miss the "gluten-free baddies" and vegan sourdough options. The Strawberry (GF) cake doughnut, made with real organic strawberries in the glaze, is a fan favorite that proves gluten-free treats can be just as indulgent as their traditional counterparts. On the vegan side, the Pistachio Sourdoughnut stands out for using 100% natural wild yeast starter and a glaze made from direct-from-the-farm California pistachios. To complete your visit, pair your selection with a Tres Leches Cold Brew or a Masala Chai, both of which are crafted with the same attention to detail as the doughnuts themselves. No matter what you choose, the combination of innovation and tradition makes every bite at Doughnut Plant a memorable one.

I usually go for fluffy or chewy donuts, while my wife prefers the cake-like ones. That means we almost never find a donut shop that satisfies us both- but today, we finally did! I’ve honestly never seen a place that nails both styles so well. Donuts are my soul food, and I’m picky about them. It’s not just fried dough rolled in sugar. At least not when it’s done right. These donuts were perfect. The apple pie donut was a touch sweet for my taste, but the apple chunks on top added such a great texture that I still enjoyed every bite. I imagine it would pair beautifully with a simple Americano. I wish this little gem existed in Pennsylvania, but I’m just so glad we discovered such an incredible donut shop within driving distance on the East Coast.

This café is such a gem! I was waiting for my ride and ended up having the loveliest time. The staff was so warm and welcoming — they gave me great recommendations and even a little sample. The coffee was just perfect. Definitely a spot I’d come back to!
