The French Workshop Introduce
In the heart of Bayside, Queens, where the local community meets a sophisticated urban vibe, The French Workshop stands as a beacon of artisanal excellence. Since its grand opening in late 2015, this bakery-cafe has redefined the local dessert scene by bringing the refined techniques of a Parisian boulangerie to Bell Boulevard. Founded by a father-and-son team, Nikolaos and Jerry Pantelatos, the establishment was born out of a desire to merge traditional French craftsmanship with the high energy of New York City. Jerry, a graduate of the French Culinary Institute, leads a team that includes chefs directly from France, ensuring that every croissant, tart, and loaf of bread adheres to the highest standards of quality and authenticity.
Walking into The French Workshop is often described as stepping into a "little taste of Paris." The interior is meticulously designed with an open-concept "workshop" feel, allowing guests to witness the artistry of the pastry team behind the scenes. With its elegant marble-clad counters, bright lighting, and festive atmosphere, it serves as a sophisticated retreat from the city's rush. Whether you are stopping in for a quiet morning espresso or meeting friends for a late-night dessert, the atmosphere is consistently refined and welcoming. It has quickly become one of the most Instagrammed and visited spots in the neighborhood, drawing in foodies from all over the New York region who are looking for a touch of elegance in their daily routine.
Location and Accessibility
The French Workshop is ideally situated at 38-39 Bell Blvd, Bayside, NY 11361, USA. Its location is a major draw for both locals and those traveling from other parts of the city. Being steps away from the Bayside station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), it is a perfect destination for Manhattan commuters or those traveling from further out on the island. The area is a bustling commercial corridor, but the bakery provides ample space for its guests. Accessibility is a priority; the venue is street-level with double doors, making it easy for all visitors to enter. While Bell Boulevard is known for being a high-traffic area, the bakery's proximity to public transit makes it one of the more accessible gourmet spots in Northern Queens. For those driving, street parking is the primary option, so arriving early or during off-peak hours is often recommended to secure a spot nearby.

What is worth choosing
If you are visiting for the first time, the Mille Feuille is the absolute must-try. Widely regarded as the bakery's signature achievement, it features crisp, caramelized layers of puff pastry that shatter upon impact, balanced with a smooth vanilla custard. It is often compared favorably to the top pastry shops in Manhattan. For those who enjoy a modern twist, the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake—topped with raspberry preserves—is a fan favorite that consistently delivers on both flavor and texture. If you are in the mood for something savory, the breakfast baguettes and the spinach-and-cheese bougatsa are highly recommended as they highlight the quality of their house-baked doughs.
It is worth noting that while their "Individuals" (small cakes) and the Mille Feuille are consistently praised for their quality, some patrons have found that certain filled items, such as the Bomboloni (filled donuts) or specific cream croissants, can sometimes have less filling than expected. Therefore, for the best value and experience, sticking to their core French classics—like the almond croissant, the fruit tarts, or the decadent "Melody" cake—is the way to go. To complete the experience, their coffee is excellent; a smooth, rich cappuccino or a Cold Brew is the perfect companion to a quiet morning in their cozy seating area. Whether you are there for a quick snack or a celebratory cake, choosing their signature pastry items ensures a taste of craftsmanship that truly honors the French tradition.
In conclusion, The French Workshop in Bayside is more than just a place to grab a muffin; it is a meticulously curated culinary experience. It offers a factual blend of high-end French technique and warm American hospitality. For any New Yorker in the Queens area, it remains a reliable, elegant, and delicious destination that lives up to its name as a true workshop of flavor.

If I had only tried the mille feuille, I would easily give this place four stars. Unfortunately, the other items I ordered brought the overall experience down. The mille feuille was genuinely good — crisp layers and well executed, comparable to another well-known pastry shop nearby. However, the Pistachio Cream Croissant had very little filling, to the point where calling it “cream” feels like a stretch. The Matcha Bomboloni and Cold Brew Bomboloni were also disappointing: the dough was a bit firm, and the fillings were so minimal — especially when compared to other bakeries, where filled donuts are often generously packed and actually burst with filling. Coffee was fine. The interior is nicely designed and festive, which adds to the atmosphere, especially on a snowy morning in NYC. Overall, this is a visually appealing bakery, but consistency and value don’t quite match the hype. Three stars feels fair for the full experience.

A little taste of Paris in Queens! 🇫🇷☕️ The French Workshop in Bayside is one of the coziest and most elegant bakeries I’ve visited in New York. Everything here feels refined — from the design and atmosphere to the aroma of freshly baked pastries and espresso. The desserts are not only beautiful but truly delicious — you can feel the craftsmanship and quality in every bite. The coffee is excellent too — smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a quiet morning, meet a friend, or simply take a break from the city rush. Highly recommend for anyone who loves good pastries, great coffee, and a calm, French-inspired vibe.

my family & i love the pastries here !! 💟 it's usually pretty packed here from my experience but so worth it. it's super unique from any other bakery ive been to in queens. they have special pastries for different occasions, which is part of the reason why i love it here. the place is kinda small but have seating inside & some outside. it is pricey but they taste delicious & the craftmanship/presentation of each pastry takes skill/time. i've never seen an ugly pastry from here! 😂🥰
