Bbang Lab Introduce
In the vibrant and ever-evolving culinary landscape of Bayside, Queens, New Yorkers are always on the hunt for the next "hidden gem." Tucked away on 41st Avenue, Bbang Lab is exactly that—a specialized, boutique bakeshop that has captured the hearts of local dessert enthusiasts. While many bakeries in the city focus on volume, Bbang Lab operates with a different philosophy: precision, passion, and a "laboratory" approach to baking. The name itself, "Bbang," is the Korean word for bread or pastry, and the "Lab" suffix perfectly describes the experimental and meticulous nature of their creations. This isn't just a place to grab a quick snack; it is a destination for those who appreciate the art of the perfect pastry.
The atmosphere of Bbang Lab is defined by its quaint and cute aesthetic, though it is famously a compact space. For locals living in the New York region, the tiny footprint of the shop only adds to its charm and exclusivity. It is the kind of place where you might see a small line forming on the sidewalk before the doors even open, as people know that the limited-batch goods here sell out quickly. The shop operates as a take-out only establishment, which allows the owners to focus entirely on the quality of the output rather than managing a large dining room. This focus on the product over the premises is a hallmark of many of the best "secret" spots in Queens.
Location and Accessibility are important factors for anyone planning a visit to this Bayside treasure. Bbang Lab is located at 214-18 41st Ave, Bayside, NY 11361, USA. It is conveniently situated between a local spa and a restaurant, making it easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. For those navigating the neighborhood, it is just a short distance from the Bayside Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station, making it accessible for commuters coming from Manhattan or further out on the island. While street parking in Bayside can be competitive, the shop's location near Bell Boulevard means there is plenty of activity nearby, and most visitors find it easy to incorporate a stop at the "Lab" into their weekend errands.
One of the most unique aspects of Bbang Lab’s accessibility is its specific operating schedule. Unlike many bakeries that open seven days a week, Bbang Lab is only open to the public from Friday through Sunday. This is a deliberate choice by the owners to ensure the highest quality of their artisanal goods. From Monday through Thursday, the team is hard at work in the kitchen, prepping doughs, fermenting starters, and sourcing the freshest ingredients. For the New York foodie who values craftsmanship, this three-day-a-week window makes a visit to Bbang Lab feel like a special event. It is highly recommended to visit on Friday or early Saturday to ensure the full menu is available, as popular items frequently sell out by Sunday afternoon.
Services Offered at Bbang Lab are tailored toward the specialty dessert lover. While the shop is small, the level of service and the variety of unique bakes are impressive. Their core offerings include:
- Artisan Small-Batch Baking: Every pastry is crafted with meticulous care, focusing on unique flavor combinations and textures that you won't find in larger commercial bakeries.
- Take-Out Only Service: Designed for the busy New Yorker, the shop provides quick and efficient service for those looking to bring high-end desserts home or to an event.
- Custom Prep Days: Utilizing Monday through Thursday for preparation ensures that the weekend stock is of the highest possible standard.
- Unique Flavor Profiles: From matcha and Earl Grey to lemon and real cream cheese, the bakery experiments with sophisticated ingredients to create modern classics.
- Gifting and Boxes: The adorable presentation of their pastries makes them a popular choice for those looking to gift a "box of joy" to friends or family in the Queens area.
- Owner-Operated Care: Patrons often have the chance to speak directly with the owner, who is passionate about sharing the story behind each recipe.
Features and Highlights of Bbang Lab set it apart from the hundreds of other bakeries in the five boroughs. In a city that loves its sweets, Bbang Lab has managed to create a cult following through several key features:
- Legendary Portuguese Egg Tarts: Widely considered by locals to be the best in the area, featuring a perfectly crisp, laminated crust and a silky, scorched custard center.
- Quaint and Aesthetic Design: The "cute" factor of the shop and its packaging makes it a favorite for social media foodies and local residents alike.
- Intimate Atmosphere: With space for probably no more than five people inside at a time, the experience feels exclusive and personal.
- Diverse Pastry Menu: Highlights include the Matcha White Scone, Earl Grey Pound Cake, and their unique Lemon Bbang.
- Textural Innovation: Their cheesecake with graham crackers in the middle is a fan favorite for its unique assembly and delightful flavor.
- Friday-Sunday Exclusive Access: The limited hours create a sense of urgency and ensure that every item sold was prepped with four days of dedicated focus.
Contact Information for Bbang Lab is essential for checking daily availability, especially for those who have their heart set on a specific pound cake or tart. Because they sell out of items regularly, calling ahead is a smart move for any dedicated fan.

What is worth choosing when you step into this tiny Bayside sanctuary? If it is your first time, the absolute "star of the show" is the Portuguese Egg Tart. Local New Yorkers frequently describe it as "simply perfect," noting the balance of the flaky, buttery shell and the rich, creamy egg custard. It is a 10/10 item that warrants a trip from any part of the city. Another high recommendation is the Matcha White Scone, which provides a earthy, sophisticated sweetness that pairs beautifully with a morning coffee.
For those who enjoy a bit of experimentation, the cheesecake with graham crackers in the middle is a delightful and unique choice. It offers a playful take on the traditional cheesecake structure that fans find irresistible. If they aren't already sold out, the Earl Grey Pound Cake is a sophisticated treat that showcases the bakery’s ability to infuse delicate tea flavors into dense, moist cakes. Lastly, don’t leave without trying the Lemon Bbang—a zesty, bright pastry that perfectly encapsulates the "laboratory" spirit of this wonderful shop. Whether you are a Bayside local or a Queens traveler, Bbang Lab offers a specialized taste of artisan baking that is well worth the weekend wait.

What a cute and quaint bakeshop! This take-out only shop offers adorable and unique pastries. The cheesecake with graham crackers in the middle was delightful, although I wished it was more concentrated and intact, rather than being loose. I loved it nonetheless! I also loved their matcha white scone. But the real star for me was their EGG TART, simply perfect! I'll definitely be back to try their lemon bbang and indulge in the egg tart again.

It's a tiny bakery tucked between a spa and a restaurant. No table and probably can't fit more than 5 people inside. But boy....those baked good are so delicious. The best Portuguese egg tart!! I had the Earl Grey pound cake last time but they were sold out. Also, after talking to the owner, found out they only open Fri-Sun because they prep their goods from Mon-Thur. So will need to come on Fri to make sure everything's available.

We saw the recommendation for Dacquoise & Egg Tart from BBang Lab by our foodie friend and decided to give it a try. We got their Dacquoise, Egg Tart and Basque Cheesecake as first try. It’s overall delicious with delicate texture and balanced flavors. My personal favorite was the egg tart which was creamy with crispy crust.

Quaint pastry shop in Bayside with delicious egg tarts! This is a grab-and-go store. Not too much standing room for customers, and no seating. Most the the store is taken up by the bakery and pastry prep area. I really liked the egg tarts! Filled with lots of custard and has a hard outer cookie-like shell rather than a pastry shell. Their other pastries were good as well. Convenient parking just next door in the municipal parking lot.

This past weekend we were in Bayside and noticed this absolutely adorable little bakery off Bell Blvd. I’m often in this neighborhood, so I was quite surprised to find out that this bakery had been open for a few months now (since March) but this was the first time I’ve noticed it. Bbang Lab is tiny, and the storefront is really discreet looking. If you walk quickly like I do, you will certainly pass it without noticing it. The interior is quite small but bright and cheery. And the desserts are super cute and tasty. These are the types of desserts made with lots of care and in small batches. I ended up getting a slice of their cheesecake, a strawberry and cream dacquoise, an egg tart, a mini chocolate pound cake and a pecan chocolate chip cookie. The cheesecake was shaped like a wedge of yellow cheese—so cute! I loved this tongue-in-cheek version and thought it was a unique twist on a regular "cheesecake". The strawberry and cream dacquoise was also another great dessert. The strawberries were sandwiched between two baked meringue pieces that had a spongy texture. So light and fresh…really loved this one. They sell other versions of the dacquoise, black sesame, matcha, cherry, etc. The egg tart had a nice, crispy, flakey crust with a very smooth, velvety custard. This was my sister’s favorite from all of the desserts we got. The mini chocolate pound cake was okay. It was a bit too dense and sweet for me. And the pecan chocolate chip had a nice crunch exterior but chewy interior. Overall, a very favorable first visit here and I will definitely be back. I just wished they had better hours. Right now, they have a limited schedule and are only open Thursdays to Sundays from 11am-6pm.
