Alameen Bakery and Restaurant ( مطعم ومخبز الأمين) Introduce
In the bustling culinary landscape of the Bronx, specifically within the enclave often referred to as "Little Yemen," Alameen Bakery and Restaurant (مطعم ومخبز الأمين) serves as a vital bridge to the rich traditions of the Arabian Peninsula. Located on Unionport Road, this establishment is a quintessential New York "hidden gem." For local residents and food enthusiasts across the New York region, Alameen offers an unpretentious and deeply authentic experience that prioritizes flavor and tradition over flashy decor. It is a place where the air is thick with the scent of fresh spices and the warmth of clay-oven baking, providing a sensory escape to the villages of Yemen right in the heart of the borough.
The shop operates as a unique hybrid of a dedicated bakery and a full-service restaurant. While many visit for a sit-down meal, the bakery side of the business is a powerhouse in its own right, supplying specialized Yemeni breads to numerous restaurants and hotels throughout the greater New York City area. The tone at Alameen is one of genuine hospitality; the owner and management are frequently noted for their welcoming nature, treating every guest—whether a first-timer or a regular—with the warmth typical of Yemeni culture. It is a "hole-in-the-wall" in the best sense of the term, offering high-quality, artisanal food at prices that reflect a true commitment to the local community. For anyone looking to explore the authentic tastes of the Middle East, Alameen Bakery and Restaurant stands as a professional yet soulful landmark in the Bronx food scene.

What is worth choosing
If it is your first time visiting Alameen, the absolute must-order item is the Bint Al Sahn. This is not just a bread; it is a labor of love. It consists of multiple thin, flaky layers of dough, often topped with black sesame seeds and served with a generous drizzle of honey. It is a dish that perfectly balances sweet and savory, making it an ideal centerpiece for a shared meal. Many regulars recommend ordering the "regular" Bint Al Sahn to share with the table alongside savory dishes to experience the full spectrum of the bakery's skill.
For a more substantial meal, the Yemeni Shakshuka is highly worth choosing. Unlike some versions found elsewhere in New York, the shakshuka here is prepared with a rich, spiced tomato base and perfectly poached eggs that are meant to be scooped up with their fresh, warm bread. If you are visiting for lunch or dinner, the Haneeth Lamb is a standout—the meat is slow-cooked until it literally falls off the bone, served over aromatic basmati rice. To complete the experience, always choose a cup of their Adani tea; the blend of spices and milk provides a warm, comforting finish that ties the whole meal together. Whether you are coming for the wholesale-quality bread or the legendary hospitality, Alameen Bakery and Restaurant offers an authentic slice of Yemen that is well worth the trip to Unionport Road. Would you like me to help you look into their current weekend hours or perhaps find more details on their imported honey selection?

The restaurant setting is pretty low-key, but don't let appearances fool you. The food and tea are excellent. I had the Yemini shakshuka, along with sharing a regular Bint Al Sahn (flatbread with black sesame seeds) and a Bint Al Sahn with honey drizzled on it. The restaurant owner/manager was very sweet and welcoming. Apparently this establishment bakes the Bint Al Sahn for lots of restaurants and hotels in the greater NYC area. I'll be back for another brunch here.

The food is delicious. A hole in the wall restaurant but worth your time. First time trying Yemen food, the hospitality was amazing.

Grabbed some Shakshuka, very well seasoned and the Roti was to die for. Only reservation, the Shakshuka was scrambled not poached. Not an issue, but worth knowing prior to ordering.
