Cafe W & Bakery / Dessert Introduce
In the heart of Flushing, Queens, Cafe W & Bakery / Dessert has quickly emerged as a standout destination for those who seek the cutting edge of the global pastry scene. Established in mid-2024, this sprawling, two-story establishment at 35-29 154th Street has captured the attention of New Yorkers through its "Wonka factory" approach to baking. Melding French techniques with distinct Asian—specifically Korean—influences, Cafe W is more than just a place to grab a quick bite; it is a community hub that balances high-energy "viral" food trends with a welcoming, spacious environment designed for long stays. Whether you are a foodie chasing the latest social media sensation or a local student looking for a reliable "home base" during finals week, this bakery offers a versatile experience that caters to a wide spectrum of the New York lifestyle.
The atmosphere at Cafe W is one of modern openness. With high ceilings, ample natural light, and a variety of seating options ranging from outdoor patios to comfortable sofas and high-top tables, it is specifically tailored to accommodate the diverse needs of the Flushing neighborhood. The shop operates under a classic Asian bakery model: customers grab a tray and tongs upon entry and browse the extensive selection of fresh-baked goods displayed in cases. This self-service style allows patrons to take their time exploring a menu that changes frequently, ensuring there is always something new and experimental to discover. The staff and owner are widely praised for their friendly demeanor, often happy to provide recommendations or warm up your selection upon request to ensure the best possible flavor profile.

What is worth choosing:
If you are visiting Cafe W for the first time, the "Onigiri Croissant" is the absolute must-try signature item. This triangle-shaped pastry mimics the traditional Japanese rice ball and comes with savory fillings such as Chive Bacon Cream Cheese or Mayo and Pollack Roe. Topped with a cheeky strip of nori (seaweed), it offers a fascinating play on textures—crunchy, buttery, and creamy. For the best experience, it is recommended to visit in the late morning when these viral treats are typically restocked, as they are known to sell out within a few hours on weekends.
For those who prefer sweet options, the Matcha Croissant and the Raspberry Pistachio Mousse Cake are top-tier choices. The matcha filling is consistently praised for being super flavorful without being overly sugary, while the mousse cakes are as much a work of art as they are a dessert, featuring intricate layers and sophisticated ingredients like rhubarb compote and chocolate almond streusel. If you are looking for a savory staple, the Salted Butter Bread (especially the variations with cream and chives) is the #1 most liked item by regular patrons. To drink, do not skip the Iced Einspanner or the Pistachio Cream Latte; the perfectly thick, sweet cream on top provides a decadent finish that has become a hallmark of the cafe’s beverage program. Whether you're there to study or to satisfy a curiosity sparked by social media, these items offer a true taste of what makes Cafe W a standout in the New York bakery landscape. Their big signature item is the onigiri-shaped croissant. When I went in the morning, they didn’t have them ready yet, so I grabbed four other pastries first. Then yes… I actually went back again in the afternoon just to get the triangle ones. 😂 In total I bought six. The matcha croissant was really good — loved the filling, super flavorful. The matcha cream + red bean one was also delicious and pretty unique. But one of them had rice cake inside, and it was really hard — not enjoyable at all. And honestly, the famous triangle croissants I made a second trip for ended up being kind of disappointing… very average. Overall, it was an interesting try — some good, some meh. Not terrible or anything, just pretty average. I’d only go back if I happen to be in the area and feel like trying something new.

This cafe has been my go-to spot for countless study sessions since it opened, getting me through multiple exam seasons. It's a fantastic place to work, offering ample seating, reliable WiFi, and plenty of outlets. I especially appreciate the later hours, particularly on weekends. Beyond studying, it’s also a wonderful spot to catch up with friends. The variety of spaces—from the outdoor patio to high tops and comfortable sofas—really enhances the experience. As for the food and drinks, the selection is excellent. There is a wide variety of savory and sweet baked goods and pastries, as well as ice cream and shaved ice. There truly is something for everyone. Everything is fresh and can be warmed up upon request. The drink selection is just as consistently good; the sweet cream for their Einspanners is perfect. The menu updates from time to time, and it’s always exciting to try something new. The owner and staff members are all kind, friendly, and happy to make recommendations or accommodate requests. Their passion for creating and maintaining this cafe is evident in every detail. I cannot recommend this cafe enough and I wish the business continued success!

Korean bakery in Northern boulevard, not a lot of parking on the street/parking lot, but you can park elsewhere. The place itself was pretty busy even though it was literally like 2 degrees outside. They had the viral Dubai chewy cookie and alot of pastries and breads that were good. We tried a chive and cream cheese bread, Dubai chewy cookie, French toast, and salt bread. The salt bread was light and fluffy, the French toast had a nice cinnamon sugar dusting and crispy, and the chive and cream cheese bread was good, a lot of cream cheese though. The Dubai chewy cookie was alright. It had alot of cocoa powder on it making it hella messy, and not really strong pistachio flavor. We also got a matcha latte which was just pretty standard matcha, not strong matcha taste and watered down quick. They did have some unique other drinks but we didn’t get to try it.

After wanting to try this bakery for the longest time, I finally got the chance to try it recently. The inside of the cafe is huge, with tons of space for you to hang out with friends or chill and get some work done. I came to try the famous Dubai chocolate mochi and some drinks. The dubai chocolate mochi itself was alright. While the marshmallow portion was good, the pistachio/kataifi filling tasted very oily. I got the misugaru latte—which I wasn't a fan of—but my friends got their sparkling drinks, which we all thought were pretty good. Overall, I could be willing to give this cafe another chance (maybe I just chose bad items), but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

I DoorDashed baked goods and omg, does this place know how to bake! I got 2 flavors of onioissant, dirty chocolate crumble croissant, 2 flavored/filled salt breads, and the coffee brioche feuilletee. The croissants were flaky and buttery; the salt breads were so fluffy….absolutely delicious. I was really impressed with how much filling they put into the salt breads and the chocolate croissant. The presentation of the packaging was also really nice and thoughtful (they put a little logo with “Cafe W” in the box which I thought was unique and showed cute attention to detail). Everything was fresh and seriously quality baking, but my personal preference (when I return or order again, for sure!) is for the salt bread or filled croissant. I cannot go to any chain Korean bakery in the area again, now that I have tried the quality of the items from this place.
