This establishment is part of a local network of bakeries, but this specific branch on Roosevelt Avenue has carved out a niche for itself by offering an expansive selection of treats in a bright, welcoming environment. Location and Accessibility
Rainbow Bakery is strategically situated at 135-38 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. This location is prime real estate in the borough of Queens, positioned on one of the busiest thoroughfares in the entire city. Its proximity to the Flushing-Main Street station—served by the 7 train and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)—makes it exceptionally easy to reach for commuters coming from Manhattan or further out on Long Island. Numerous bus lines also stop within a one-block radius, ensuring that the bakery is a central point for those traveling via public transportation.
For those navigating the area on foot, the bakery is a natural stop during a day of shopping or dining in downtown Flushing. However, New Yorkers traveling by car should be aware that parking on Roosevelt Avenue is extremely limited and traffic is consistently heavy. Most local drivers opt for nearby paid parking garages or municipal lots, as street parking is rarely an option during business hours. A significant advantage of this specific branch is its operational schedule; it is known for opening earlier and closing later than other branches in the vicinity, making it a vital resource for customers who need to purchase baked goods outside of standard retail hours. This extended accessibility makes it a "go-to" for the early morning commute or a late-night dessert craving.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Rainbow Bakery, the clear standout for many frequent customers is the coconut pandan cake. It is highly recommended for its fragrant aroma and the fact that it is not overly sweet—a quality often prized in traditional Asian baking. These cakes are typically priced around $28 for a 6-inch size, making them a solid value for the quality of the flavor profile. However, customers should be aware that consistency can occasionally be a factor; for example, some have reported finding frozen layers within the cake, suggesting that checking the temperature before leaving the shop is a wise move for those planning to serve the cake immediately.
For those looking for smaller treats, the individual buns and banana bread are reliable, affordable choices that stay within the $2 to $4 range. These items are perfect for a quick breakfast on the 7 train. If you are planning a celebration, the specialty decorated cakes offer a great visual impact, though it is recommended to speak clearly with the staff regarding your needs. It is important to note that many staff members have limited English proficiency, so being patient or using visual aids/pointing to specific items can help ensure order accuracy. Additionally, visitors should be vigilant about pricing; there have been reports of missing or incorrect price tags on shelves. To ensure a transparent transaction, it is a good practice to confirm the price of each item with the cashier before completing your purchase. Despite these minor logistical considerations, the combination of unique flavors like coconut pandan and the convenience of Roosevelt Avenue makes Rainbow Bakery a noteworthy stop in the Flushing food landscape. Whether you are there for the early morning buns or a late-night specialty cake, the variety and accessibility keep it a relevant player in the local scene.
In summary, Rainbow Bakery provides a colorful and varied experience for anyone in the New York region looking for authentic and affordable pastries. While communication and pricing transparency are areas for customers to keep in mind, the quality of the signature cakes and the convenience of its extended hours make it a valuable resource in the heart of Flushing. Visited this bakery a few times now on a friend's recommendation. The interior is bright and welcoming. I have purchased a couple of coconut pandan cakes and various baked goods (e.g. sponge cakes, banana bread, buns, sesame balls, etc.) across several visits. The baked goods are reasonably priced ($2–$4) and decent, though nothing outstanding. The standout for me has been the coconut pandan cake as I find it fragrant and not overly sweet. Consistency however, can be hit or miss. On one visit, I purchased two 6-inch coconut pandan cakes ($28 each) and one had a frozen layer inside while the other didn't. The bakery itself also offers a wide range of basic cakes (e.g. vanilla, mixed fruit, chocolate, taro, etc.) around $28–$40 for 6–8 inches and more elaborate decorated specialty/ice cream cakes ranging between $60–$100+. Cake toppers are available for different occasions too, so be sure to mention it if you need one. Most staff members speak limited English, so communication can be a little tricky here. For now, I can only vouch for the coconut pandan cakes and breads as solid options, but I plan to return and explore their other offerings. It's worth noting as well that this location opens the earliest and closes the latest compared to their other branches in the area and is convenient for grabbing something outside usual hours.

Very questionable pricing practices here. Multiple items had wrong or missing price tags. When I asked about it, the staff simply removed the tag and acted like they couldn’t find it. No apology, no explanation. It felt extremely sketchy and not transparent at all. Customers shouldn’t have to guess what they’re being charged.

Several items had price tags that were almost half of the actual price at checkout. When I pointed it out, the staff quietly removed the tags and pretended to look for them instead of explaining or apologizing. When multiple items have incorrect price tags and the actual price is almost double, it stops looking like a simple mistake and starts feeling very misleading. Not a good experience.

Conveniently located bakery along the number 7 subway line in Flushing, Queens Pastries here are delicious, as they are very moist with on-point flavoring Their Hotdog pastries are very fun to eat, more fun than the hotdogs that you can get on the midtown Manhattan streets. Their Cream Bun is also fun Coffee isn’t bad either and compliments the pastries well The Staff here is friendly and the premises is clean Prices are pretty fair for what you get considering this is NYC They accept Cash, Card and 🍎pay

I took a few bites before realizing the chicken was completely raw. I was horrified this is a serious health risk. The fact that this even made it to a customer is unacceptable. I’m disgusted and will never be back.
