The shop manages to maintain a professional standard of service while keeping a neighborhood feel that makes every customer feel at home. From the neatly organized display cases to the efficient staff, the operation is a testament to the hard-working spirit of the Elmhurst business community. It is a place where tradition is honored through classic egg tarts and sponge cakes, but innovation is also embraced with the inclusion of trendy items that appeal to a younger, social-media-savvy generation.
Location and Accessibility
One of the most significant advantages of Rainbow Bakery is its prime location at 82-51 Broadway, Elmhurst, NY 11373, USA. For anyone familiar with the geography of Queens, this address is the definition of "convenient." It is situated right next to the Elmhurst Av subway station, which services the M and R trains. This proximity makes it an ideal "grab-and-go" destination for commuters heading into Manhattan for work or returning home to Queens in the evening. The ability to hop off the train and immediately step into a warm bakery is a luxury that local residents truly appreciate.
In addition to its excellent subway access, the bakery is easily reachable via several local bus lines that traverse Broadway and the nearby Queens Boulevard. For those walking through the neighborhood, the shop's storefront is a prominent and friendly sight on the block. What is worth choosing
When you visit Rainbow Bakery, the most highly recommended items are undoubtedly their specialty cakes. If you have an upcoming celebration, choosing one of their custom cakes is a decision you won't regret. The taro and mango flavored cakes are local favorites, praised for their light sponge and fresh fruit layers that aren't overly sugary. They are as much a treat for the eyes as they are for the palate, with intricate decorations that make them the centerpiece of any party table. For those who enjoy a unique twist, the chocolate layer cake provides a rich yet balanced option that stands out among the more traditional fruit-based cakes.
For a quick, individual treat, the mochi donuts are an absolute must-try. These have gained a following for being soft, chewy, and possessing that perfect "mochi-mochi" texture that is hard to find done correctly. If you prefer something more traditional, the egg tart is worth choosing; it features a wonderfully flakey crust and a fluffy, custardy center that melts in your mouth. For those who enjoy an adventurous savory-sweet combination, the cheese bun—with its sweet topping and American cheese center—is an interesting and satisfying snack. Because of the affordable price point, often around $2 per item, it is well worth choosing a variety of pieces to sample the broad range of what this Elmhurst gem has to offer. Pair your selection with a hot coffee and take a seat at one of their cozy tables to truly experience the neighborhood vibe. Just keep in mind that during peak hours, there is a courtesy 20-minute time limit on the seating to allow all neighbors a chance to enjoy the space.
Ultimately, Rainbow Bakery is more than just a business; it is a vital part of the Elmhurst community. It provides a reliable, high-quality service that honors the diverse tastes of New Yorkers. Whether you are looking for a last-minute sweet treat after work or a carefully crafted cake for a milestone event, this Broadway bakery delivers with professionalism and a friendly smile. It is a factual example of why the Queens food scene remains one of the most exciting and dependable in the entire United States.

Cute shop to stop in for a well-priced sweet treat. Each bread was about $2 each. The egg tart was nice and fluffy with a flakey crust. The cheese bun was interesting with the top being sweet and the center containing American cheese. There are a few two person tables to sit down at (20 min time limit).

This is my go-to breakfast spot in Elmhurst. Their Portuguese egg tart and brown sugar walnut bread are my faves. Some of the breads come with ham or sausage, though—I really wish they offered those without. More vegan-friendly options would be amazing. I wanna try the steamed buns too; they remind me of my hometown, but I can only eat halal. Hoping they expand the menu with vegan options like coconut steamed buns and custard steamed buns.

Hidden gem in Elmhurst: Double Rainbow Bakery at 8251 Broadway is serving up pure magic in every bite. Their pineapple bun? Absolute perfection—crispy golden top with that warm, pillowy center. It's everything a pineapple bun should be. Don’t sleep on their fish sandwich either—soft bun, flaky fish, and just the right balance of crunch and flavor. Now for the showstopper: their mochi donuts (aka Pon De Ring) are hands-down the best in the game. Chewy, lightly sweet, and beautifully glazed—each bite is a dream. Also obsessed with their Chinese egg tarts—buttery crust with silky, custardy centers that melt in your mouth. And let’s talk about their mini sesame seed pineapple buns: slightly nutty, subtly sweet, and dangerously snackable. If you’re in Queens, this bakery is a must-visit. #ElmhurstEats #QueensBakeryFinds #DoubleRainbowBakery #PineappleBunGoals #MochiDonuts #EggTartLove #NYCFoodie #FoodieInTheBigApple2025

Rainbow Bakery (and Dim Sum) is a great, affordable spot for fresh bakery treats, with prices that beat other options in the area, including Fay Da. The rice rolls are the highlight here: very thin and silky, they’re a must-try. The bakery bread is decent and consistent – not the best I’ve had, but it’s fresh and gets the job done. The coffee milk tea is also solid. Their mochi donuts are tasty, though a bit too sweet. And there’s a combo deal to get $1 off a mochi donut if you purchase a large drink. Overall, it’s a reliable choice for quick, budget-friendly bites.
