Features / Highlights
What truly distinguishes this location is a series of unique features that you won't find in a standard bakery. Notable highlights include:
- Inventor of the Crème Brûlée Doughnut: Doughnut Plant is the original home of this world-famous treat, featuring a hand-torched caramelized sugar crust and vanilla bean custard.
- Signature Square-Filled Doughnuts: A structural innovation designed to ensure you get a bit of house-made jam or cream in every single bite.
- Doughnut-Themed Decor: The "donut wall" featuring plush cushions and intricate ironwork molded from original Hotel Chelsea railings creates a unique, art-forward environment.
- The Famous "Disco" Restroom: A local secret and social media favorite, the restroom is designed with twinkling metallic tiles and a spinning disco ball, inspired by the founder's history at Studio 54.
- All-Natural Ingredients: A strict adherence to using real fruit and nuts in glazes—no artificial flavorings or preservatives are permitted in the kitchen.

What is Worth Choosing
When faced with the impressive display at Doughnut Plant, certain items have earned a permanent place in the hearts of New Yorkers. The Tres Leches doughnut is a perennial favorite; it is a cake doughnut so expertly soaked that it mimics the creamy, moist texture of the classic Mexican dessert while maintaining its structural integrity. For chocolate lovers, the Brooklyn Blackout—a tribute to the legendary Ebinger’s bakery—is worth choosing for its deep Valrhona chocolate glaze and rich chocolate pudding filling.
For those looking for something lighter but equally flavorful, the apple-based selections (often appearing seasonally) are praised for their moist crumb and authentic fruit taste. If you prefer a bit of a crunch, the Crème Brûlée doughnut is an absolute necessity, providing a satisfying crack of caramelized sugar that contrasts beautifully with the silky custard inside. Local patrons also frequently recommend the Red Velvet for its vibrant color and classic cream cheese notes. While the price point reflects the premium ingredients and labor-intensive process, most find that the unique taste and substantial size make it a worthwhile investment for a "little indulgence." Whether you are a traditionalist or an adventurer, a visit to this Chelsea landmark is guaranteed to be a highlight of your New York dessert experience.

The doughnuts are one of the best I’ve ever tasted. So good that I went in wanting one but end up eating two! Really enjoyed the chocolate one with the chocolate cream inside (can’t remember the name!) and the red velvet. Service was prompt and friendly. Overall, great place for a little indulgence.

My overall rating is 4 stars which include both taste (5) and price (3). I would recommend to stop by at this donut shop next time you’re visiting NYC. This is for sure is unique as far as selections, taste, and price! Lol. They have different sizes and flavors that you can choose form. This time I only tried the apple-donut (don’t remember the exact name) and it was moist with a rich apple flavor and the right amount of sweetness. I want to try more flavors next time I visit NYC again! P.S. their bathroom rocks! You gotta try using it or at least peep into it! (I included photos for you guys!)

Heard great things and decided to finally try it out. Went on a Sunday morning (9:30am ish) there were seats available. Excellent customer service, professional and helpful since it was my first time and I wasn’t sure what I wanted. Tried the creme brulee (their most popular item) it was delicious, a good size, not too sweet, the outer was was sticky- kinda caramel ey I think, the the filling was yum and custard ey, not too overpowering $4 Tried the tres leches filled one, so yummy and satisfying. A light sweetness and the dough is a good texture. Overall had an amazing experience and look forward to trying more! 🤤

Best doughnuts EVER! This location does get busy and sometimes crowded. The staff is always pleasant and executes the order professionally. My only comment is I wish they’d be a little gentler when grabbing the doughnuts from the racks. I want to be able to take pictures of the doughnuts and a cracked glaze is not attractive. 🤨🤪 Creme brûlée doughseed is amazing and a must get! If you’re a chocolate lover, you have to get the Brooklyn blackout cake doughnut. The coconut cream yeast doughnut is fabulous! The seasonal doughnuts are also wonderful and appreciated whenever I get them and share with family and friends. They also make a really good cup of chai too.

I decided to put this on my "we have to go" list before arriving to New York from Chicago. We specifically took a car service to this place for breakfast. It was well worth it! The staff was very nice and helpful. The choices for donuts were good! The coffee and latte was just okay but we didn't go for that so we didn't care too much that it was terrific coffee. The donuts were delicious I got a vanilla blackberry jam square donut and my boyfriend got the blackout. WOW! I ended up ordering 3 more including pistachio (which was YUMMY) to go. I wish they had this place in Chicago. That's a hint! Overall, would be my favorite donut shop spot if I lived close by to the shop.h
