Gourmet Bakery & Deli Introduce
In the heart of Queens, specifically within the tranquil and residential stretch of Forest Hills, local residents often find comfort in the simple, artisanal pleasures provided by community-focused establishments. Gourmet Bakery & Deli, located on Metropolitan Avenue, is a prime example of such a destination. This family-run "mom and pop" shop has carved out a niche for itself by offering a blend of traditional bakery staples and modern beverage trends. In a city where large chains often dominate the landscape, this shop provides a more personal, quiet experience for those looking for quality over quantity. It is the kind of neighborhood spot where the focus is on the craft of baking, serving the local population with a level of care that only a small business can provide.
The atmosphere at Gourmet Bakery & Deli is unpretentious and straightforward. While it does not aim for an "upscale" aesthetic, it offers a peaceful environment that many locals find refreshing. Whether you are looking for a quick snack on your way to Forest Park or a place to sit down with a friend, this bakery serves as a reliable anchor in the community. As New Yorkers, we appreciate businesses that stay true to their roots, focusing on the quality of their dough and the freshness of their ingredients. This establishment caters to a variety of tastes, from those seeking a hearty piece of traditional bread to younger crowds looking for the latest in boba tea and refreshing beverages.
Location and Accessibility
Gourmet Bakery & Deli is strategically situated at 96-15 Metropolitan Ave, Flushing, NY 11375, USA. While the mailing address says Flushing, any local will tell you that this specific block is firmly embedded in the Forest Hills community. Metropolitan Avenue is one of the most recognizable thoroughfares in Queens, stretching through several diverse neighborhoods. This location makes the bakery incredibly easy to find for anyone traveling through Central Queens. It sits within a corridor known for its mix of classic New York storefronts and residential tranquility, making it a frequent stop for those living nearby.
In terms of accessibility, the bakery is well-positioned for both pedestrians and those using public transit. The Q23 and Q54 bus lines run along Metropolitan Avenue, providing easy access from various points in Queens. For those who prefer to walk, the surrounding neighborhood is highly walkable and safe, characteristic of the Forest Hills area. For those traveling by car, there is generally street parking available along the avenue, though it can be competitive during peak hours. Importantly for the modern New Yorker, this small shop has modernized its payment systems; despite its "mom and pop" feel, it accepts credit cards for even small purchases, which is a significant convenience for those who no longer carry cash in the city.

What is worth choosing
When you find yourself at Gourmet Bakery & Deli, the first item you should consider is their traditional cookie. These are not your average, small-scale cookies; they are notably "huge" and have earned praise for their texture. The dough is high quality and, most importantly for many New Yorkers, the cookies are not overly sweet, allowing the natural flavors of the filling and the butter to shine through. It is a substantial treat that provides great value for the price and represents the bakery's commitment to "old school" quality.
Additionally, the pretzel rolls are a standout choice that many locals keep on their "must-try" list. In a city with a deep love for pretzels, having a bakery that integrates that flavor into a roll format is a significant draw. These are perfect for taking home and making a sandwich or simply enjoying with a bit of butter. For those who are fans of the current boba tea craze, it is worth trying one of their enticing beverages. Having a high-quality drink option alongside traditional breads makes this spot a versatile choice for any time of day. While the shop maintains a strict policy regarding outside food—so be sure to finish your Dunkin' Donuts coffee before entering—the trade-off is a peaceful, dedicated space where the scents of fresh bread and pastries take center stage. For a quiet, reliable, and authentic Forest Hills experience, Gourmet Bakery & Deli is a destination worth adding to your local rotation.
Ultimately, choosing this bakery means supporting a local family that has remained a part of the Forest Hills fabric. Whether you are coming in for the "huge" cookies or a bag of fresh rolls, the quality of the products speaks for itself. It is a reminder that in the fast-paced world of New York City, there is still plenty of room for small, dedicated bakeries that do things the right way, one loaf at a time.

When you are in this part of Forest Hills, this nice, little family-run spot is a great place to get nicely-prepared cookies, breads, and pastries. For sure, I'll have to try a pretzel roll next time. Oh--and they have boba tea and other enticing beverages. I got a traditional cookie here today during my first visit. The cookie was huge and I ate it all because it wasn't too sweet and because the dough and filling were very good quality. I would be happy to sit at one of the tables in this peaceful spot, by myself or with a friend (got take-out today), though it's not upscale. I didn't have cash on me and was pleased that they take credit cards, no problem, even though it's just a small mom and pop shop.

Everything looked old and stale, I came in with literally a coffee from dunkin donuts and wanted to grab a juice and snacks to meet my friend. They kicked me out just for my iced coffee even though I was planning to buy something. I understand the whole no outside food but I was willing to buy something and they attitude was horrible

I got an milk tea I never really milk tea before because I have medical condition (hiatal hernia) where I can't have caffeine at all or I start throwing up. I can strictly only have herbal teas. asked multiple times if this has caffeine on the lady told me thai iced tea does not. I drank the whole thing and I started throwing up really bad 😔. I ended up googling it apparently thai iced teas do have caffeine in it because it comes from black tea leaves. 😭😭😭 I guess I should of googled it before purchasing it but I really trusted the lady when she told me no it does not . It sucks because now the whole day possible tomorrow I'll be throwing up. My whole day is ruined Please note people have medical conditions and can tell when someone is lying I also got Spanish feta but she microwaved it and it wasn't tasty. I don't even own or use microwave at home all the coffee places I go have toaster or toaster ovens . Overall disappointed in this place. And I rarely leave 1 star reviews

I have been going here for years! They make the best pretzel rolls that I've ever had here! I go here anytime that u ever need them. Their regular rolls are also amazing. Very good Bakery selection. Nice deli selection. Decent drink selection. Staff is very friendly. They speak English decently. Ive never had any issues ordering ahead when I need to get more than 10 pretzel rolls.

Used to go here many years ago, like once a week, because my high school was located a block away. If I can still remember this place after 6 or 7 years, then they really must be good. Their cookies really tasted good from what I remember.
