La Boulangerie de François Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the heart of Forest Hills, Queens, tucked away from the frantic pace of the main commercial avenues, lies a culinary gem that transports patrons straight to the streets of Paris. La Boulangerie de François has established itself as a premier destination for those seeking authentic French baking in the New York metropolitan area. This isn't your average neighborhood shop; it is an artisan bakery dedicated to the traditional methods of French boulangerie and patisserie. For local New Yorkers who appreciate the difference between a mass-produced loaf and one crafted with patience and high-quality flour, this establishment offers a slice of European culture right in the middle of the borough.
The philosophy of La Boulangerie de François centers on authenticity. The aroma of freshly baked yeast, caramelized sugar, and rich butter wafts through the air, drawing in locals who have made this spot a mandatory stop in their daily routines. While the shop maintains a professional and focused atmosphere, it captures the rustic charm of a village bakery. Whether you are a connoisseur of fine breads or someone simply looking for a high-quality breakfast pastry, the offerings here are designed to satisfy the most discerning palates. It is a place where the craft of baking is treated with the respect it deserves, resulting in products that are as visually stunning as they are delicious.
Location and Accessibility
Located at 109-01 72nd Rd, Forest Hills, NY 11375, USA, La Boulangerie de François is perfectly positioned for the local community. It is situated just off the bustling Austin Street shopping district, providing a slightly quieter environment while remaining highly accessible. For those utilizing the New York City subway system, the bakery is only a short walk from the 71st Ave - Continental Ave station, which serves the E, F, M, and R trains. This makes it an easy detour for commuters heading home or visitors exploring the beautiful residential architecture of Forest Hills Gardens.
The shop’s street-level entrance and prominent corner presence make it easy to find. However, like much of this desirable Queens neighborhood, street parking can be a challenge, especially during peak weekend hours. Residents often prefer to visit on foot, enjoying the tree-lined streets of Forest Hills on their way to pick up their daily bread. The interior space is cozy, featuring a large community table and a few smaller tables for those who wish to eat on-site. While the seating area can get quite busy and crowded—particularly on Saturday and Sunday mornings—the efficiency of the counter service ensures that the line moves steadily for those who are stopping in for a quick take-out order.

What is Worth Choosing
If you are stepping into La Boulangerie de François for the first time, your primary focus should be on the breads. The traditional baguette is the undisputed star of the show. It is the perfect accompaniment to a home-cooked dinner or simply enjoyed with a bit of high-quality butter. For those looking for a loaf with more texture, the "pain aux céréales" is a magnificent choice. This multi-grain bread is robust enough for sandwiches but delicious enough to stand on its own when toasted. It is a favorite among locals who want a healthier yet flavorful bread option for their kitchens.
On the pastry side, the Apple Kouign Amann is a must-try. This Breton cake is known for its layers of butter and sugar, and the addition of apple provides a tart brightness that balances the richness. It is a decadent treat that pairs perfectly with one of their expertly prepared lattes. If you are planning a visit to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, try to arrive early on a weekday to secure a spot at the community table. While the service is focused on efficiency and the environment can be quite busy, the quality of the food remains a constant. It is important to note that the shop is a functional bakery first, so while the seating is a nice perk, the focus is firmly on the authentic French culinary experience. Whether you are grabbing a quick pain au chocolat or a week's supply of sourdough, this Forest Hills staple delivers an unmatched level of French authenticity.

The food is good. Service not so friendly and no one cleans the tables between customers so it is quite dirty to sit and eat at a table. Too bad because the food is authentic french with decent prices. No toilets

The best baguette in the city, lattes were balanced and piping hot and the apple kouign amann is delicious - also grab a pain aux céréales to take home; a great sandwich bread and also delicious on its own, toasted with a bit of butter. There’s a community table and a few smaller tables if you’re aiming to eat in; just be ready for it to be busy if you visit on the weekend!

Love all pastries here the best, I put 3 stars bc when they open first thing there is harly anything out, hard to get the almond crosants so I go as soon as they open and they don't have and I ask maybe in tge oven or how long they don't know thats very annoying when one is trying to beat the crowd, otherwise I have to say they have the best baking goods and all breads but like I said very disappointed the many times I go for these almond crosants at different times and hardly never get and just get out w a scone and coffee, which the coffee is great. This was today at 7:25 am on a Saturday

I had been eyeing this place for years because it's one of the few French bakeries that serve fraisier cakes. I was finally brave enough to go in and get one, and the taste was divine. It was simple yet balanced flavors and not too sweet! ❤️ Would love to come back and try other items.

I finally visited the bakery my friend had been raving about, and it truly lived up to the hype! She told me they serve great coffee, and there’s always a line — a clear sign of its popularity. The French owner carefully selects the best ingredients, and it shows in the quality of the pastries and the service. We sat at a table outside, enjoying the lovely +24°C weather. Each of us ordered a soup, which came in beautiful bowls and had generous portions. The soups were served with several slices of sourdough bread and butter, a perfect complement. I’ve been a fan of their eclairs for a while now, they are simply delicious! Today, I tried the raspberry opera cake — it was good, but a bit of an acquired taste. Overall, a wonderful experience, and I’ll definitely be back!
