Maxin Bakery Introduce
In the bustling heart of Flushing, Queens, one of the most vibrant and culturally rich neighborhoods in New York City, local bakeries serve as essential cornerstones for daily life. Among the many establishments lining the busy corridors of Main Street, Maxin Bakery stands as a well-known destination for those seeking traditional Chinese baked goods. For residents of New York, a trip to Flushing is often defined by the search for authentic flavors and affordable treats, and this bakery has long been a part of that local landscape. It caters to a diverse crowd of commuters, students, and families who are looking for a quick breakfast or a nostalgic snack that reminds them of home-style baking traditions.
Maxin Bakery is a classic representation of the fast-paced, high-volume bakeries typically found in major Asian hubs across the five boroughs. It offers a wide array of items that range from the sweet and fluffy to the savory and substantial. While the bakery has been a long-standing favorite for many, it remains a point of conversation among locals regarding the consistency of its offerings. For some, it is a daily ritual for budget-friendly buns; for others, it is a spot that requires a discerning eye when selecting the day's fresh batches. Understanding the nuances of this local business is key for any New Yorker looking to navigate the competitive and ever-changing food scene in Northern Queens.
Location and Accessibility
Maxin Bakery is situated at 37-01 Main St, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. This location is arguably one of the most accessible spots in the entire borough of Queens. Positioned on the corner of Main Street, it sits at the epicenter of Flushing's commercial district. For New Yorkers relying on public transportation, the bakery is just steps away from the Flushing-Main Street station, the final stop on the 7 subway line. Additionally, it is in immediate proximity to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Flushing station and a massive hub of MTA bus routes, including the Q12, Q13, Q17, and Q27, among many others.
Because it is located in such a high-traffic pedestrian area, accessibility by foot is the primary way locals interact with the shop. While driving to this part of Main Street can be challenging due to the heavy traffic and restricted bus lanes, there are several municipal parking lots within a few blocks for those who are making a dedicated trip. The bakery’s storefront is easily identifiable and usually bustling with activity, reflecting the high-energy environment of the 11354 zip code. Whether you are transferring between the train and the bus or simply walking through the neighborhood, the bakery provides a convenient stop-off point for a quick grab-and-go meal.
Services Offered
Maxin Bakery operates primarily as a traditional counter-service Chinese bakery. They provide a variety of services geared toward the busy New York lifestyle, focusing on speed and variety. Their service offerings include:
- Daily On-Site Baking: A large selection of buns, breads, and pastries are prepared daily to fill the display cases.
- Take-out and Grab-and-Go: The shop is designed for quick transactions, allowing customers to self-serve their pastries with trays and tongs before heading to the register.
- Custom Beverage Preparation: Aside from baked goods, they offer a menu of chilled drinks and teas made to order.
- Breakfast and Lunch Solutions: With a mix of sweet and savory items, the bakery serves as a one-stop shop for affordable meals throughout the day.

Features / Highlights
What defines the experience at Maxin Bakery is a combination of traditional recipes and the classic "Flushing" atmosphere. Here are the specific features and highlights that characterize this establishment:
- Affordable Pricing: One of the biggest draws for locals is the price point. The bakery is known for offering large, filling portions at prices that are very competitive for the New York City market.
- Authentic Chinese Menu: The selection features staples of Cantonese-style baking, such as pineapple buns, coconut cream buns, and almond twists.
- Savory Selections: For those who prefer a non-sweet snack, they carry a variety of steamed and baked baos filled with meats and vegetables.
- Texture and Size: Many regulars highlight that the buns are notably big and fluffy, providing a satisfying texture that is a hallmark of the style.
- Alternative Drink Options: Their Passion Fruit with Jelly drink is frequently cited as a light, refreshing, and affordable alternative to the more expensive bubble tea shops found elsewhere in the area.
- High-Volume Turnover: Due to its prime location, the bakery moves through a significant amount of product every day, meaning new batches are frequently brought out to the floor.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Maxin Bakery, knowing what to look for can help ensure you have the best possible experience. The traditional pineapple bun (bo lo bao) is a perennial favorite; many locals recommend taking these home and popping them in a toaster oven for a few minutes to restore the crispy, sugary crust that gives the bun its name. The coconut cream buns and almond twists are also top choices for those with a sweet tooth who appreciate a light, airy dough. If you are in the mood for something savory, their steamed baos are a reliable option for a quick, warm lunch on the move.
On the beverage side, the passion fruit with jelly drink is highly recommended for anyone looking for a refreshing accompaniment to their pastry without the heaviness of a milk-based tea. It is worth noting that while many customers have enjoyed delicious and fresh treats here for years, some recent feedback suggests that shoppers should always do a quick visual check of their items before leaving the store, as consistency in quality control has been a point of contention in some recent customer experiences. However, for the seasoned New Yorker who knows their way around a Chinese bakery, Maxin remains a significant player in the Flushing food scene, offering the kind of "big and fluffy" treats that have made this style of baking a beloved part of the city's culinary fabric. If you are looking for classic flavors at a great price point, Maxin Bakery on Main Street is a stop that captures the true essence of Queens.

This used to be one of my favorite spots, but of recent, it’s been one horrible experience, after the other. I bought a little over $30 worth of pastries and when I got home 20mins later and checked my pastries, they were all sour and had mold on them. I called several times to inquire on a refund, with them cutting my calls off abruptly, multiple times. I will no longer be going here, because molding and expired pastries seems to be a multiple occurring situation. Highly disappointed in them.

I come to Maxin Bakery all the time - for a quick breakfast, to take with me for lunch, or to save for the next day. Everything is big, fluffy, and at a great price! Here, you'll find traditional Chinese bakery goods like pineapple buns (I like to pop mine in the toaster when I get home for its crust to get crispy), coconut cream buns, almond twists, and savory steamed baos. Their passion fruit with jelly drink is a great cheap alternative to bubble tea and is light and refreshing. Everything I've tried here was delicious!

Came into Flushing this afternoon and was craving a Chinese red bean bun. I walked into adorable Maxin Bakery to find out if they had any red beans buns. They did and the friendly woman at the bakery showed me where the red bean buns were located. I bought one red bean bun and it was only $1.85. Brought it back home and was so impressed with the taste, a soft bun filled with red bean paste. Every bite was so amazing. I wanted to save some of my red bean bun for the following but I couldn't because it was so delicious. Maxim Bakery makes the best red bean buns in NYC.

One of my favorite Chinese bakeries in the world (not just Flushing). Prices are great, food even greater. Of course taste is subjective. My favorite is a sweet corn danish for $1.90 as of this posting. Opens at 7am most days. They're ready a few minutes before. If you don't speak their language either be very patient and be ready for some "rude" customer service (it's NOT rude) or use Google Translate. Don't be that non-local who blames non English speakers for being "unfriendly". If you're visiting New York City, and Googled "best Chinese bakery" this place is one of the best anywhere.
