Winter Pie Shop Introduce
When the crisp air of late autumn begins to settle over Manhattan, the city transforms into a festive wonderland, and few places capture this spirit more vividly than the area surrounding Bryant Park. The Winter Pie Shop, located at 33-37 W 40th St, New York, NY 10018, is a seasonal establishment that has become synonymous with the holiday energy of Midtown. As part of the festive ecosystem that thrives during the colder months, this shop offers a specific focus on the comforting, nostalgic flavors that New Yorkers crave when the temperature drops. From the aromatic scent of cinnamon and nutmeg to the sight of steaming mugs carried through the park, the Winter Pie Shop aims to provide a quintessential winter experience for those navigating the heart of the city.
The shop operates within a unique niche, catering to both the local workforce seeking a quick festive break and the thousands of visitors who flock to the Bryant Park Winter Village. Its presence on 40th Street places it at the doorstep of one of the most iconic public spaces in the world. The concept of the Winter Pie Shop is built around the idea of seasonal indulgence—offering products that are specifically curated for the holiday window. While New York is home to many year-round artisanal bakeries, a seasonal specialist like this one focuses its energy on the textures and tastes that define the end-of-year celebrations, aiming to be a convenient stop for a treat while skating at the nearby rink or browsing the holiday shops.
Location and Accessibility
The Winter Pie Shop is situated at 33-37 W 40th St, New York, NY 10018, USA. This location is strategically placed directly across from the southern edge of Bryant Park. For local users, this means the shop is positioned in one of the most transit-rich areas of Manhattan. Accessibility is a primary feature, as it is just a short walk from the 42nd St - Bryant Park subway station, which serves the B, D, F, and M lines, as well as the 7 train. Additionally, its proximity to Times Square and Grand Central Terminal makes it easily reachable via almost every major subway line in the city, including the N, Q, R, W, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 trains.
For those commuting into the city via the Port Authority Bus Terminal or Penn Station, the shop is within a reasonable walking distance or a very quick subway transfer. Its location on 40th Street allows it to benefit from the high foot traffic of the Bryant Park complex while remaining accessible to those who are simply passing through Midtown on their way to work or other city destinations. During the peak holiday season, the area is bustling with activity, but the shop’s central position ensures it is a prominent fixture for anyone exploring the Midtown South and Fashion District corridors. The storefront is designed to integrate with the seasonal aesthetic of the neighborhood, contributing to the "village" feel that draws so many to this specific block in January and December.

What is worth choosing
When visiting the Winter Pie Shop, the focus is undoubtedly on the seasonal experience. For many, the primary draw is the opportunity to enjoy a warm beverage while taking in the sights of the Winter Village. If you are looking for a dairy-free indulgence, the vegan hot chocolate is a prominent feature on their menu. While it is priced as a premium seasonal item—typically around $7.50 plus tax—it is an option for those who prioritize plant-based choices during their city excursions. This beverage is a staple of the Bryant Park complex and is often chosen by those who want to warm up while walking through the festive stalls.
In terms of baked goods, the shop's namesake pies are the central attraction. For the best experience, it is worth inquiring about the freshest daily selections. Traditional flavors that align with the winter theme are the most popular choices for those looking to satisfy a sweet tooth after a session on the ice rink. Because the shop operates in a high-demand, fast-paced environment, many regulars suggest being clear and direct with questions regarding pricing and daily specials to ensure a smooth transaction. While the pricing reflects its prime location within the Bryant Park holiday hub, choosing a slice of a classic seasonal pie provides that specific New York holiday flavor that many seek out once a year. Whether you are stopping in for a quick vegan hot chocolate or a slice of pie to share in the park, the Winter Pie Shop offers a chance to participate in the collective seasonal energy of Midtown Manhattan.
Ultimately, the Winter Pie Shop at 33-37 W 40th St serves as a notable example of the ephemeral nature of New York's seasonal retail. It provides a specific service during a specific time of year, aiming to capture the hearts and palates of those who find joy in the winter traditions of the city. While the experience is very much a product of its bustling Midtown environment, it remains a stop on the holiday map for many who find themselves in the shadow of the New York Public Library during the coldest months of the year.

Winter Pie Shop Reviews

Visited the Winter Pie Shop at Bryant Park Winter Village on January 2nd and was shocked by the staff’s unprofessional behavior. I asked for prices, and instead of answering, the employees were vague, rude, and confrontational. One made an inappropriate comment about my hair, and they essentially chased me away for asking a basic question. Later, I learned the pies were stale anyway and not worth the visit. This place needs serious customer service training. I don't recommend this place.

The vegan hot chocolate was $7.50 USD before tax. Came to around $8.17 with tax. For such a price, I expected something really special - but it turned out to be the worst hot chocolate I had during my NYC trip (and I had ordered hot chocolate from about 5 different stores). Very little flavor, and a very small cup size. Most of the shops I had visited sold hot chocolate for around $4.50, and the cup was larger and the hot chocolate was much more flavorful. This was daylight robbery, quite frankly. I am not singling out Winter Pie Shop, because I can see other shops in the Bryant Park complex which had the exact same hot chocolate menu. So the markup seems to apply across all Bryant Park shops - it's not remotely worth paying for hot chocolate at Bryant Park, buy it elsewhere.

The vegan apple hand pie was decent but extremely over priced. That plus a smores came out to 34$. The staff was nice.

Best pies in NYC! I am thrilled they have new locations this winter. Love the special flavors. Oh, and the vegan hit chocolate is so yummy! ☕ Highly recommended.
