Cafe y Algo Mas Introduce
Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of East Elmhurst, near the border of Flushing, Cafe y Algo Mas serves as a quintessential local hub for authentic Latin American cuisine and baked goods. For New Yorkers living in or traveling through northern Queens, this establishment offers a warm, family-oriented atmosphere that blends the comforts of a traditional bakery with the hearty offerings of a full-service restaurant. The name itself, which translates to "Coffee and Something More," perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the business—it is a place where you can start your morning with a strong cup of coffee and a fresh pastry, or sit down for a substantial, home-cooked meal that tastes like it came straight from a family kitchen. In a city where fast food often dominates the landscape, Cafe y Algo Mas stands out by providing a space that feels personal and culturally rooted.
The establishment caters to a diverse crowd, from local residents who have made it their daily breakfast stop to tourists exploring the outer boroughs of New York City. The interior reflects the welcoming nature of the community, often filled with the chatter of regulars and the enticing aromas of slow-cooked meats and freshly baked breads. As a professional content writer focusing on the New York market, I see this spot as a prime example of the "hidden gems" that define the Queens food scene. It is not just a place to eat; it is a business that prides itself on maintaining the culinary traditions of the Latin diaspora, ensuring that every plate served carries a sense of heritage and pride. Whether you are looking for a quick caffeine boost or a sit-down dinner with the family, this location offers a versatile experience that adapts to the needs of the neighborhood.

What is worth choosing:
If you are planning a visit to Cafe y Algo Mas, there are a few standout items that local patrons consistently recommend. First and foremost is the Beef Steak with Rice and Salad. This dish is a staple of the Latin American diet, and here it is prepared with a focus on tenderness and seasoning. The steak is typically thin-cut and seared to perfection, served alongside a mound of fluffy white rice and a fresh side salad. To elevate this meal, it is highly recommended to use their signature homemade spicy sauce. Frequent visitors rave about the sauce's ability to enhance every component of the dish without overpowering the natural flavors of the meat.
Another top-tier choice is the Chicken Soup. In the colder months of New York, this soup becomes a local favorite for its comforting, "just-like-grandma-made-it" quality. It is packed with flavor and usually features large portions of chicken and vegetables, making it a meal in itself. For those seeking the ultimate traditional experience, the Bandeja Paisa is a must-try. This platter typically includes steak, pork rind (chicharrón), rice, beans, a fried egg, and an arepa. It is a hearty, protein-rich meal that represents the best of Colombian-style comfort food. However, when ordering items to-go or larger platters, it is a good idea for customers to be clear about their order and double-check the bill at the time of payment. Local feedback suggests that while the food quality is amazing, clarifying the cost of extras—such as to-go containers or specific side substitutions—can ensure a smooth transaction.
For the bakery side of things, don't overlook their selection of pastries to accompany a morning Fanta or a hot coffee. The contrast between the savory main dishes and the sweet bakery treats makes Cafe y Algo Mas a versatile destination. Whether you are stopping by for a quick snack or a full-scale feast, you will find that the dedication to authentic flavors makes this a regret-free stop in the East Elmhurst area. As money is tight for everyone in the city, the generous portions here often mean you get two meals for the price of one, providing the kind of value that local New Yorkers truly appreciate. We're on a NYC trip, and we stopped at this great family restaurant. Ordered beef steak with rice and salad. Special chicken soup. The spicy sauce home made are great with every dish. Go there, you won't regret.

The food and the service was amazing but when it was time to pay that's when they lost me. I ordered the Bandeja which cost $17 and a Orange Fanta when my bill came it was $27, I was flabbergasted when I asked why my bill was so high she suddenly didn't understand English, when I asked to speak with someone who spoke English the guy knew immediately why I was complaining. He stated I was charged $3 for something that was included but the server forgot to tell me there was an extra charge I explained to him the item was included on the menu and there was no mention of an extra charge, he reluctantly gave me back $3, I exclaimed that still doesn't account for the other $4, he said they charge for to-go containers. Although the food was amazing I will NOT be returning and I will NOT recommend. Money is tight for everyone so if someone is patronizing your business you should think twice before trying to nickel and dime them and unfortunately I didn't tip the server because she was in on it too, sad!!!

The workers at this place are rude and inattentive. They offer foods and dishes that are not available And when you inquire about certain food they reply with nasty attitudes and bad faces . There is never seating space and the place looks dingy and unsanitary. Don't recommend this place .

They will take care of you here. Two people can split a bandeja paisa and be full. Good sized portion, the coffee and pandebono are good.
