The Cookie Odyssey Introduce
In the high-stakes, fast-moving environment of the Financial District, a new contender has emerged in the New York City cookie wars. The Cookie Odyssey, located at 35 Cedar Street, is a specialized bakery that focuses on the art of the "thick" cookie—a style that has captured the hearts of New Yorkers who crave a dessert that is substantial, rich, and expertly textured. While many Manhattan bakeries focus on dainty pastries or classic thin wafers, The Cookie Odyssey leans into the trend of massive, gooey-centered treats that feel like a full culinary journey in every bite. It is a place where the simplicity of a cookie is elevated through high-quality ingredients and a baking process that ensures a perfect contrast between a slightly crisp exterior and a super nice, chewy middle.
For those living or working in Lower Manhattan, finding a reliable spot for a late-night craving or a mid-afternoon sugar boost is essential. The Cookie Odyssey serves as a "hidden gem" in the 10005 zip code, offering a whimsical, mythological-themed menu that adds a touch of personality to the corporate landscape of the neighborhood. As the name suggests, the bakery invites customers to embark on an "odyssey" of flavors, ranging from classic chocolate chip to inventive combinations featuring oats, raisins, and tropical fruits. It is an unpretentious, high-quality destination that is rapidly gaining a reputation as an underrated player in the competitive NYC cookie game, providing a sophisticated alternative to the more commercialized chains found in the area.
Location and Accessibility
The Cookie Odyssey is conveniently located at 35 Cedar St, New York, NY 10005, USA. Situated in the heart of the Financial District (FiDi), the shop is nestled among the towering skyscrapers and historic canyons of Lower Manhattan. Its location on Cedar Street makes it a prime destination for office workers at nearby firms, as well as residents of the many luxury apartment conversions in the neighborhood. The shop itself is a charming "little hut" style setup, which adds a unique, artisanal character to the streetscape.
Accessibility is a major highlight for this location, as it is just steps away from several major transit hubs. For those traveling via the NYC Subway, the bakery is easily reached from the Wall Street station (4 and 5 trains), the Broad Street station (J and Z trains), and the Fulton Street transit hub (A, C, 2, 3, 4, 5, J, and Z trains). This level of connectivity means that even if you aren't working in the immediate vicinity, stopping by for a fresh batch of cookies is a seamless addition to any downtown commute. While the shop is a compact walk-up window, the surrounding area features public seating where patrons can sit outside and enjoy their purchase immediately, soaking in the unique energy of the downtown bustle.

Features / Highlights
What sets The Cookie Odyssey apart are the specific textural and flavor highlights that local patrons have come to celebrate. These features define the bakery's signature style and contribute to its "underrated" status.
- Exceptional Texture: The cookies are famously thick with big pieces of chocolate chunks, maintaining a super nice and chewy middle that avoids being overly doughy.
- Sophisticated Sweetness Levels: Unlike many American desserts that can be cloying, these cookies are praised for being rich and flavorful without being "over-the-top sweet."
- The "Riley" Standard of Service: Patrons have highlighted the staff's willingness to go above and beyond, such as taking orders minutes before closing with a positive attitude.
- Signature Banana Chocolate Chip: Known as "The Cyclops," this flavor is a local favorite for its moist texture and rich fruit-and-chocolate profile.
- Triple Chocolate Excellence: Known as "The Penelope," this option is a chocolate lover's dream, featuring multiple layers of cocoa intensity.
- Variety in Choice: The availability of minis for flavors like oats and raisins or pecan allows for a comprehensive tasting experience in one visit.

What is worth choosing
If you are making your first journey to The Cookie Odyssey, there are a few standouts that are absolutely worth choosing to get the full experience. The "Cyclops" (Banana Chocolate Chip) is a definitive choice; it perfectly captures the bakery's ability to balance moisture and structure, offering a unique twist on the classic chocolate chip. For those who prefer a more traditional but elevated experience, the large Chocolate Chip cookie is a 10/10 option, providing those big, molten chocolate chunks that New Yorkers crave. The contrast between the thick exterior and the chewy center in the large size is particularly satisfying.
Additionally, for the adventurous eater or the undecided, choosing a flight of "minis" is highly recommended. This allows you to try the pecan, the oats and raisins, and the chocolate chip all in one sitting. Many locals find that the "Penelope" (Triple Chocolate) is the perfect antidote to a stressful workday, offering a rich, comforting profile that "hits the spot" every time. Whether you are walking up two minutes before closing or stopping by for an afternoon break, The Cookie Odyssey is worth choosing for its commitment to quality and its charming, small-batch feel. In a city where everyone is fighting to be the "best," this Cedar Street hut is quietly winning over the neighborhood one thick, chewy cookie at a time.

These cookies are soooo good!!!! I ordered three minis because I needed to try all the flavours (chocolate chip and banana, oats and raisins, and pecan) and my husband ordered one large chocolate chip. As you can see from the photo the large cookies are thick with big pieces of chocolate chunks but super nice and chewy in the middle. Service was so-so. The place is just a little hut, but there are places to sit outside and enjoy your purchase. Would highly recommend.

The Cookie Odyssey absolutely came through for a late-night craving this week. I walked up literally 2 minutes before closing and they were already wiping down the counter, but Riley was the GOAT and happily took my order. I grabbed their banana chocolate chip cookie (the Cyclops, 1 large and 1 mini) and their triple chocolate chip (the Penelope, also 1 large and 1 mini). I loved both cookies so much. Super rich, great texture, and somehow not over-the-top sweet. Absolutely hit the spot and feels underrated in the NYC cookie game.

It's one of the best cookies I've ever eaten. I suggest you get the small ones so you can try more flavours. 5 out of 6 flavours were awesome. The only one that it was just ok was the pecan pie. And it's only just $1.80 each. I highly recommend this place

at banana-chocolate cookie! Totally agree with previous reviews. So delicious, like a rich cup of banana pudding, gooey, delicious. Really liked the pecan cookie and the chocolate-chip cookie. The rest (the ginger, yuzu, white-chocolate dark chocolate) were four stars. Coming back for that banana cookie. 5 stars!!!!

Absolutely yum cookies here! Affordable and gooey yummy. I love that they have only a few and the same flavors in the big and small. The texture changes with the size and both are delicious. Definitely try these cookies! They’re located in the little hut outside of the main cafe.
