Catania Bakery Introduce
For generations of residents in the Ridgewood and Flushing areas of Queens, the name Catania Bakery has been synonymous with the comforting, unmistakable aroma of freshly baked Italian bread. Located in a vibrant section of the borough, this bakery serves as a living testament to the rich European culinary traditions that have shaped the New York City food scene. Unlike the modern, minimalist cafes that have cropped up in recent years, Catania Bakery maintains an old-school charm that prioritizes craftsmanship, tradition, and a deep connection to the local community. It is the kind of neighborhood cornerstone where the scent of yeast and flour begins to waft through the air in the "wee hours of the morning," inviting early risers and night owls alike to experience the warmth of a true artisan kitchen.
The bakery is deeply embedded in the daily lives of local New Yorkers. Many patrons describe a lifelong relationship with the establishment, having visited with their parents as children and now returning to pick up the same specialty loaves and pastries for their own families. This sense of continuity is a rare find in the ever-changing landscape of New York real estate, making Catania Bakery a cherished landmark for those who value authenticity. Whether it is the golden crust of a traditional Italian loaf or the intricate layers of a seasonal pastry, every item produced here reflects a commitment to the "nurturing" quality of traditional baking that has stood the test of time.
Location and Accessibility
Catania Bakery is conveniently located at 64-10 Fresh Pond Rd, Flushing, NY 11385, USA. This prime location sits on a bustling commercial strip that straddles the neighborhoods of Ridgewood and the broader Flushing area, making it a central hub for residents across Western Queens. Fresh Pond Road is a well-known artery in the borough, characterized by its mix of long-standing family businesses and diverse eateries, and the bakery fits perfectly into this eclectic environment.
Accessibility for local users is excellent, as the bakery is well-served by public transportation. Several bus lines, including the Q58 and M train connections nearby at the Fresh Pond Road station, provide easy access for those traveling without a vehicle. For those living in the immediate vicinity—particularly around Grove Street and the surrounding residential blocks—the bakery is a prime destination for a morning walk. While street parking in this part of Queens can be competitive, the high volume of foot traffic ensures a steady and energetic atmosphere throughout the day. The storefront is easily recognizable, often signaled to passersby by the intoxicating smell of baking bread long before they reach the door.

What is Worth Choosing
When visiting Catania Bakery, the absolute "must-buy" item is their signature bread. Specifically, the Mafalde rolls are highly sought after; their unique texture and ability to hold up in sandwiches make them a prized selection among regulars. If you are looking for a classic accompaniment to your morning coffee, the plain Italian loaves—freshly pulled from the oven with a crisp crust and airy interior—are a simple yet profound testament to the bakery’s skill. Even during quiet mid-morning hours, these bread items remain the core of the Catania experience.
For those with a sweet tooth, the bakery’s assortment of Italian cookies is worth every penny. Their tri-color rainbow cookies are particularly noted for their moisture and authentic almond flavor, often outperforming the mass-produced versions found in supermarkets. Additionally, the bakery excels in seasonal offerings. If you are visiting during the winter holidays, their Panettone is a traditional masterpiece, frequently purchased as a "gift to take" for friends and family. While the bakery does offer standard New York staples like bagels, many long-time customers recommend leaning toward the Italian specialties—like their pastries and specialty rolls—as these are the items where the bakery's decades of experience truly shine.
Despite the high quality of their baked goods, visitors should keep in mind that this is a traditional, high-volume neighborhood spot. While they offer coffee and breakfast sandwiches, the focus is squarely on the craft of the bakery itself. To ensure the best experience, locals often suggest arriving early in the morning when the selection is at its most diverse and the "concentrated scent" of fresh baking is at its peak. Whether you are picking up a dozen rolls for a family dinner or a custom-decorated cake for a special celebration, Catania Bakery remains a reliable, factual piece of Queens history that delivers on the promise of quality and tradition.

I’ve been coming to this bakery since I was a kid. I grew up right on Grove. The scent of the bread baking is such a deep and nurturing scent, you can smell it late in the evening and early in the wee hours of the morning at the most concentrated. The mafalde rolls are my favorite and I always look for them. They have so many great cakes, pastries, cookies, and specialty seasonal items. They also carry panettone and cookies made up to take for gifts.

Two separate bagels with barely any cream cheese. Really disappointing made the bread taste dry. Came on a Thursday late morning wasn’t even busy. Would’ve just got plain bread with coffee it’s what we ended up eating.

I live on Long Island and my cousins brought over some of these wonderful pastries yesterday and they were the most freshest, delicious Italian pastries I’ve ever had! The doughs were so fluffy, the custards and fillings on point! I can’t say enough, everything so beyond fresh! Definitely looking forward to stopping in next time I’m in the area! 🥰 And this morning, I made a cappuccino and had some for breakfast! Delicious!

My biggest concern is that some of the ladies don't care about food Contaminants! Like touching money and not using the gloves. Or using just pice of paper to pick up bread or bagels, rolls, and living that same paper in paper bag together with my rolls not good practice!!!

This place is disgusting. I just got charged $16 for 5 to 6 mini cookies. Some of them tasted like basement. None of them were fresh. No way this is Italian Italians care about quality and this place was awful.
