Grimaldi Bakery Introduce
In the heart of Ridgewood, Queens, where the echoes of Old World traditions still resonate through the tree-lined streets, Grimaldi Bakery stands as a fragrant landmark of Italian-American heritage. For over a century, this beloved neighborhood institution, often referred to as the "Home of Bread," has been the primary destination for New Yorkers seeking the authentic taste of hearth-baked loaves and artisanal pastries. Stepping into the shop at the corner of Menahan Street is an immersive experience; the warming scent of fresh bread fills the air, instantly transporting visitors back to a time when every neighborhood relied on its local baker for the daily table. For the residents of Ridgewood and the surrounding New York area, Grimaldi is not just a storefront—it is a piece of community history that has remained a constant throughout generations of change.
The bakery is renowned for its commitment to "Real Hearth Bread," a technique that involves baking dough directly on the stone surface of the oven. This method, combined with time-honored family recipes brought from the Old World, results in a robust character, a thick, satisfying crust, and a tender crumb that modern commercial baking simply cannot replicate. While many establishments have moved toward automation, Grimaldi Bakery continues to blend traditional hand-kneading and long-proofing methods with meticulous care. This dedication to the craft has earned them a loyal following that extends far beyond the borders of Queens, attracting bread connoisseurs from across the five boroughs who understand that a truly great meal begins with a truly great loaf.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Grimaldi Bakery, there are several signature items that are absolutely worth choosing to experience the best of New York’s baking tradition. First and foremost are the Mafaldi rolls. These wavy-edged rolls are a Ridgewood staple; they are best enjoyed fresh with just a bit of butter, allowing the quality of the hearth-baked dough to shine. They have a crust that provides a satisfying snap followed by a soft, airy interior, making them the gold standard for a local breakfast or a sandwich base. Another bread highlight is the Semolina Hero, which is topped with toasted sesame seeds and offers a nutty depth of flavor that complements any deli meat or cheese.
On the sweeter side of the menu, the custom cakes are highly recommended for any celebration. The chocolate mocha cake has received high praise for its freshness and rich, balanced flavor, making it a "phenomenal" choice for events like bridal showers. If you are visiting during the spring, it is essential to check for the St. Joseph’s pastry (Zeppole di San Giuseppe). These seasonal treats are a hallmark of the bakery’s commitment to Italian tradition, featuring light, fried or baked dough filled with decadent pastry cream and topped with a cherry. For a daily treat, the rainbow cookies and butter cookies—available by the pound—are a consistent favorite, offering a colorful and nostalgic bite of New York bakery culture. Finally, don't leave without a freshly filled cannoli; the crunch of the shell against the cold, spiced ricotta cream is a reminder of why this shop has remained a community favorite since 1909. Would you like me to look up their current holiday specials or perhaps provide a list of their different bread varieties for your next visit?

I’ve lived a few blocks away from Grimaldi for nearly all of my life. What a treat! Grimaldi is a go-to for Mafaldi rolls, we used to always get these with butter. There is such a variety of delicious fresh breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, and everything in between. They do custom orders, my sweet sixteen birthday cake was from here. They even have a coffee station for you to prepare coffee how you like it with whichever creamer you want. My best friend’s grandmother always got her breadcrumbs from here and obviously any cookie or dessert. This is a beloved neighborhood bakery and I always love breathing in that warming scent of the fresh baked bread. They have a variety of seasonal specialties that they do as well so check-in with them periodically to find the new or seasonal items. Think of the St. Joseph’s pastry (Zeppole di San Giuseppe), and many other seasonal treats outside of just the fall and winter holiday season. Although there’s many great options then too!

Dear Lord that was so delicious!! I live 5min away for one year now and just found it today, I regret I did that so late. I bought pumpernickel bread and some desserts. I don’t remember when I ate that good last time. Everything fresh, not too much sugar, perfect cream and dough, omg 🥹My favorite spot from today!! Also, very nice ladies on front desk!
