Delicias Caleñas Astoria Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Nestled in the bustling neighborhood of Astoria, Queens, Delicias Caleñas Astoria has long served as a vibrant gateway to the rich culinary traditions of Colombia. Located right under the elevated subway tracks, this establishment is more than just a simple bakery; it is a community hub where the aromatic scents of freshly baked pan de bono and hot Colombian coffee greet locals and commuters alike. Known for its extensive selection of both sweet pastries and savory hot meals, it has built a reputation for providing authentic "Cali-style" flavors to the diverse population of New York City. Whether you are seeking a quick morning treat or a substantial dinner platter, this spot offers a 24-hour window into the heart of Colombian comfort food.
As an Astoria staple, Delicias Caleñas occupies a unique niche. It balances the fast-paced energy of a transit-adjacent deli with the warmth of a traditional South American panadería. For those living in or visiting Western Queens, it represents a reliable destination for a "taste of home" or an affordable introduction to Latin American cuisine. While the neighborhood has seen many changes over the years, this bakery remains a constant, providing a no-frills environment where the focus is squarely on the food. The establishment is particularly prized by the local workforce and late-night travelers who rely on its round-the-clock service and hearty portions to fuel their New York lives.
The name "Delicias Caleñas" specifically references Cali, a city in Colombia famous for its salsa culture and distinct regional snacks. This heritage is evident in the shop's menu, which features items like pandebonos and empanadas that are staples of the Valle del Cauca region. For the professional content creator or the local foodie, this bakery is a testament to the multicultural fabric of Astoria, offering a slice of Colombian life right on 31st Street.
Location and Accessibility
Delicias Caleñas Astoria is strategically located at 22-55 31st St, Astoria, NY 11105, USA. This location is one of its greatest assets, as it sits directly beneath the N and W subway lines at the Astoria-Ditmars Blvd station. For commuters, this makes it an incredibly convenient stop-off point. You can literally step off the train and find yourself at the bakery's doorstep within seconds. This high-traffic position ensures that the food is constantly being refreshed to meet the demands of the steady stream of passengers moving through one of Astoria's busiest transit hubs.
Accessibility is excellent for pedestrians navigating the Ditmars area, which is known for its walkable streets and dense commercial activity. For those traveling by bus, the Q69 and Q101 routes provide easy connections to other parts of Queens and Manhattan. While street parking in this section of Astoria can be famously difficult due to the proximity to the subway terminus, the bakery’s quick counter service is ideal for those who manage to find a temporary spot or for those who are traveling by foot. Furthermore, the 24-hour operation schedule means that accessibility is never limited by time, providing a safe and brightly lit destination for locals at any hour of the day or night.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Delicias Caleñas Astoria, the absolute "must-try" items are the baked cheese breads. The Pandebono (Colombian cheese bread) is a local favorite, prized for its chewy texture and salty-sweet balance. If you are there during the morning rush, their Bacon, Egg, and Cheese roll on a fresh bakery roll has earned a "hidden gem" reputation among Astoria residents for its surprising quality. For those looking for a snack on the go, the beef and chicken empanadas are consistently popular choices, especially when paired with their house-made spicy ají sauce.
If you are staying for a full meal, the Bandeja Paisa is the ultimate choice for the hungry diner. This massive platter features steak, rice, beans, fried pork rind (chicharrón), avocado, and an egg, providing a comprehensive tour of Colombian flavors in a single sitting. However, a modern tip for the savvy diner: be aware of the "menu del dia" pricing. While historically known as a budget-friendly spot, some recent customers have noted that daily specials may now include a mandatory soup or a fixed price for the platter regardless of side choices, often landing around the $18 mark. To get the best value, it is worth asking for the "Lunch Sin Sopa" (Lunch without soup) if you prefer a lighter meal. For dessert, a slice of Tres Leches cake or a traditional flan provides a perfectly sweet conclusion to the savory, hearty experience that Delicias Caleñas offers to the Astoria community.

Honestly, I work in the area and I used to go here all the time for my lunch. Food is pretty good, but suddenly the staff started forcing you to get soup with your food and if you don’t want it, you still pay the same price. I went in for a regular plate of food with rice and beans and one meat. That used to be a decent price and the lady told me that she was still charging me $18, whether I take the soup or not. Since when did they start forcing people to get soup? This was one of my go to places to get some good food for a reasonable price, but I guess that’s not possible anymore.

They charged me 18.50$ for two pieces of chicken, one scoop of rice and a little bit of beans . This spot is overrated. Chicken is dry first and last time going there do not recommend.

Small spot, not a lot of seating. The woman at the counter not the most welcoming but nice enough. The coconut flan was absolutely delicious ($5). Not too sweet. Very creamy. My mom is a flan snob since she makes it herself, and she loved it!

Great small Colombian spot, it’s open 24 hours, not pricey at all and they have a wonderful staff specially Katerina and Viviana .

I went to get Empanadas. I asked for 3 chicken and 3 shrimp. I asked if they have shrimp and the young lady confirmed. The gave me 3 chicken and 3 beef. I was highly disappointed with the incorrect order and also the way in which the empanadas were made. They had potatoes in them. Very disappointing.
