Dough Doughnuts Astoria Introduce
In the bustling culinary landscape of Astoria, Queens, Dough Doughnuts has established itself as a premier destination for those seeking an elevated twist on a classic American treat. Since its arrival in the neighborhood, this establishment has brought its signature oversized, brioche-style doughnuts to the 11105 zip code, offering a distinct alternative to the standard fare found at larger national chains. For New Yorkers who appreciate the craft of small-batch baking, Dough represents a modern evolution of the doughnut shop, where the focus shifts from mass production to an artisanal approach characterized by vibrant glazes, unique flavor profiles, and a dedication to fresh ingredients. Whether you are a local resident or a visitor exploring the north end of Queens, a stop at this 31st Street location offers a visual and culinary experience that has become a staple of the city’s vibrant dessert scene.
The hallmark of Dough Doughnuts is the "Dough" itself—a yeast-based brioche dough that is prepared in small batches throughout the day. This method results in a product that is notably larger and denser than a typical airy doughnut, providing a hearty, bread-like texture that serves as a robust canvas for their inventive toppings. The shop’s aesthetic is just as carefully curated as its menu, with an open-concept design that often allows customers to catch a glimpse of the glazing process. This transparency reinforces the bakery’s philosophy that buying a doughnut should be an experience rather than just a transaction. While the shop has garnered a reputation for its "Instagrammable" creations, it remains deeply rooted in the local community, participating in neighborhood events and offering a space that reflects the creative energy of Astoria.
Location and Accessibility
Dough Doughnuts Astoria is conveniently situated at 21-70 31st St, Long Island City (Astoria), NY 11105, USA. Located on one of the neighborhood's primary commercial arteries, the shop is a central fixture for both the Ditmars community and those passing through this busy section of Queens. Its position makes it exceptionally accessible for those utilizing the New York City subway system; it is located just steps away from the Astoria-Ditmars Blvd station, the terminus for the N and W lines. This proximity allows for a quick and easy detour for commuters looking to pick up a box of treats on their way home or for those starting their day with a coffee and a snack.
For those navigating the area by bus, the shop is serviced by several local routes, including the Q69 and Q101, which stop nearby on 31st Street and Ditmars Boulevard. The neighborhood itself is highly walkable, and the bakery is a popular stop for locals strolling through the area’s many parks and shops. While street parking on 31st Street can be challenging due to its high traffic volume, the turnover for quick pickups is generally fast. The shop features a clean, modern interior with a casual vibe, though seating is often limited, making it primarily a "grab-and-go" destination for busy New Yorkers.

What is Worth Choosing
When visiting Dough Doughnuts Astoria, the absolute standout and a "must-try" for any first-time visitor is the Hibiscus Doughnut. This signature item features a sweet and tangy glaze made from real dried Mexican hibiscus flowers, topped with a candied hibiscus petal. It is not only visually stunning with its deep pink hue but also offers a floral acidity that perfectly balances the sweetness of the glaze and the richness of the dough. For those who prefer more traditional profiles, the Glazed with pure vanilla bean and the Cinnamon Sugar are perennial favorites that showcase the quality of the brioche base.
For fans of more decadent flavors, the Dulce de Leche with Toasted Almonds is highly recommended. The house-made caramel glaze provides a deep, creamy sweetness that is elevated by the crunch of sliced almonds. Additionally, if you are visiting during the right season, keep an eye out for their cream-filled varieties or the Strawberry Shortcake doughnut, which provides a nostalgic nod to classic American desserts. If you are a coffee lover, the Café Au Lait doughnut—inspired by coffee cake with a roasted coffee glaze—is the perfect accompaniment to your morning brew. Given their popularity and small-batch production, it is a local pro-tip to visit earlier in the day; the most sought-after flavors, especially the vegan options, tend to sell out quickly by the late afternoon. Whether you are buying a single doughnut for a mid-day break or an assorted dozen for the office, choosing these signature flavors ensures you are getting the full Dough experience.

Dough Doughnuts Astoria Reviews

The donuts lacked any discernible flavor, even the blueberry variety, and were merely coated in a sugary glaze. I couldn't bring myself to take a second bite. It was a disappointing experience, especially considering the price. Even Dunkin' Donuts offers a superior taste compared to this. I'm relieved I only ordered one, as I feel like I wasted $4.50.

The donut shop is nice and the donuts look very pleasing to the eye but they’re disgusting. I ordered the strawberry shortcake and the donut was overproofed, excessively yeasty, almost alcoholic, and the texture was aweful. I had to spit this one out. So let’s go over it. The initial look of the donut is 5 stars! People first eat with the eyes. When you cut into the donut there’s a big air pocket between the icing and the bread. The smell was off putting and very yeasty. The crumb was soft but not crumbly but flavorless. When you bite down into the a cut section you get the oversweet icing followed by the puking aroma of over proofed yeasty smell that turns your stomach. Please change the recipe. (I really hate to recommend this but there’s a Krispy Kreme on the corner to the left when you exit the restaurant).

Today was my 1st time at this location. And the 2 doughnuts i got today were STALE! I got a passion fruit one and a hibiscus one. Both stale! Fresh doughnuts are supposed to be soft and airy & fluffy! These were far from that. It was disappointing wasting $11 & change, but because I'm a Brooklyn girl and loved their Downtown Brooklyn location, I had high hopes for the Astoria location, but No dice! Hard pass.

I really wanted to love these donuts. They look beautiful and have so many creative flavors. However I bought one at the end of the day and it was so dry and flavorless in the inside. They are HUGE and the outside is decent but the inside isn’t worth the calories.

Their doughnuts are huge! My team and I enjoyed the hibiscus, s'mores, and chocolate with chocolate nibs doughnuts. All were wonderfully flavored, pairs well with their coffee. A great brunch snack on a frigid December morning. The service was friendly and quick. Thanks for a great start to our day.
