Ess-a-Bagel Introduce
Introduction / Overview
When it comes to the culinary fabric of New York City, few items are as iconic or as fiercely debated as the bagel. However, in a city filled with endless options, Ess-a-Bagel remains a towering institution that has defined the standard for authentic, hand-rolled, and kettle-boiled bagels for decades. While the original locations have long served as landmarks for locals and tourists alike, the expansion into the historic Trinity and United States Realty Buildings at 115 Broadway brings this legendary flavor to the heart of Lower Manhattan. This location perfectly marries the rich architectural history of the Financial District with the timeless tradition of a classic New York deli.
Ess-a-Bagel is not just a shop; it is a destination for those who appreciate the craft of bagel making. Known for their generous size, distinct chew, and perfectly crisp exterior, these bagels represent the gold standard of the craft. Whether you are a lifelong New Yorker looking for your daily morning fix or a visitor seeking an essential Big Apple experience, Ess-a-Bagel on Broadway provides a professional yet warm environment where the food takes center stage. The atmosphere is frequently described by patrons as clean and inviting, maintaining a high level of quality and service that honors the brand's long-standing reputation in the competitive New York food scene.
Location and Accessibility
The shop is situated in one of the most prestigious and accessible areas of the city. Located at 115 Broadway, within the stunning Trinity and United States Realty Buildings, it sits at a crossroads of history and modern commerce. For those navigating the city, this location is exceptionally convenient. It is just a short walk from major landmarks such as the World Trade Center, Wall Street, and the 9/11 Memorial, making it an ideal stop for those exploring the downtown area.
Public transportation options are abundant, with several subway lines serving the immediate vicinity, including the 2, 3, 4, 5, R, W, J, and Z trains at nearby stations like Wall Street, Rector Street, and Fulton Street. While the storefront is nestled within a bustling corporate and historical hub, it remains highly accessible for pedestrians. It is important for visitors to note that while the interior is modern and welcoming, seating can be limited during peak breakfast and lunch rushes. As is common with popular New York eateries, the shop is expertly optimized for takeout, allowing busy professionals and sightseers to grab their orders and enjoy them in nearby public spaces like Zuccotti Park or the Trinity Churchyard.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Ess-a-Bagel, the sheer variety of options can be overwhelming, but there are several standout items that have earned high praise from regular patrons. The "Mr. Nova Lova" sandwich is a perennial favorite, widely regarded as a perfect execution of the classic lox and bagel combination. It features silky Nova lox, cream cheese, and traditional garnishes that create a balanced, salty, and creamy profile that is quintessentially New York.
For those who prefer to explore the world of unique spreads, the house-made cream cheeses are a revelation. The Avocado Garlic cream cheese is a particular highlight, offering a rich, savory, and modern twist on the traditional schmear that pairs excellently with an Everything bagel. Other notable mentions include the Vegetable and Tofu spreads, which provide a lighter yet equally flavorful alternative, and the Garlic Herb cream cheese for those who enjoy a bold, aromatic punch. To complete the meal, their latte coffee is frequently cited as a high-quality pairing, providing a smooth finish to the hearty, satisfying textures of the bagels. Whether you opt for a classic Whole Wheat Everything bagel or a decadent sweet spread, the consistency of the bake and the freshness of the ingredients make every choice a rewarding one.

The atmosphere at this location is amazing. It's clean, the staff are very friendly, and the food is amazing as usual! I ordered my favorite, Mr. Nova Lova, and it was perfect as always ❤️ They have an assortment of cream cheeses that I have never seen anywhere else before, and I'm tempted to return just to try them all on an everything bagel!

We tried multiple different types of bagels here. The place has limited seating, so it’s better suited for takeout if you’re planning a visit during busy hours. We ordered the whole wheat everything bagels with different cream cheese flavors—avocado garlic, vegetable & tofu, and garlic herb. All of them were good, but the avocado garlic was definitely my favorite—creamy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Their latte coffee was also really good, making it a nice pairing with the bagels. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Overall, a great spot for bagel lovers and definitely worth visiting again!

The ever popular Ess-a-Bagel now has a downtown location. The shop is clean, tidy, has a seating area, sells merch and is generous with the condiments. The plain cream cheese was very tasty and actually had flavor which isn’t always the case elsewhere

The venue was in a great location right in the heart of the financial district! Lovely venue seems really new and modern. Overall, I thought the bagels were good. Extremely large and very filling, I could barley eat my entire one. A little dry Id recommend a drink, but thats just me personally. I would come back.

Congrats on the grand opening! I've been a loyal Ess-a-Bagel customer since I was in middle school and would go to the original location almost everyday after school! I'm really glad that they've been doing well and expanded over the years, especially in NY, since beloved businesses are always coming and going. I'm not usually a salmon or fish fan but their Nova is to die for! Not too salty and very fresh and not overly smokey. I love that their everything bagel is crunchy on the outside yet soft and chewy inside (a total NYC bagel)! They were doing a sampling when I went and their strawberry cream cheese is my new fave for when I'm craving something sweet! Love the sandwiches here and I can't wait to try more things 🤗 The staff were also very warm and welcoming and helpful! I also loved that they had accessible outlets in the seating area bc my phone was dying.
