Guyana Choice Bakery Introduce
In the vibrant tapestry of Queens, New York, few neighborhoods offer as much sensory richness as the corridor along Liberty Avenue. For the Guyanese-American community—the second-largest foreign-born group in the borough—local bakeries are more than just shops; they are cultural anchors. Guyana Choice Bakery, situated in the Richmond Hill and Jamaica border area, has served as one of these community hubs for years. For New Yorkers seeking the nostalgic flavors of the West Indies, this establishment offers a direct connection to the traditional baking techniques and recipes that define Guyanese culinary heritage. From the heavy, satisfying plait bread to the sweet and flaky pine tarts, the bakery aims to provide a "home away from home" experience for the thousands of Caribbean immigrants who call South Queens their home.
The atmosphere at Guyana Choice Bakery is typical of the bustling, no-nonsense establishments found throughout Little Guyana. It is a place where the scent of warm yeast and spices meets the fast-paced energy of Liberty Avenue. For many long-time residents, a visit here is part of a weekly ritual—picking up fresh loaves of bread to accompany a Sunday pepperpot or grabbing a quick savory snack on the way to the nearby A train. While the bakery has seen a variety of feedback over its long history, it remains a visible fixture in the 11417 zip code, representing the enduring presence of West Indian business owners who have transformed this section of New York into one of the most diverse food destinations in the world.
Location and Accessibility
Guyana Choice Bakery is conveniently located at 104-06 Liberty Ave, Jamaica, NY 11417, USA. This location is strategically placed in a high-traffic area that bridges the residential communities of Ozone Park and Jamaica. Liberty Avenue is the primary commercial artery for the Guyanese community in New York, and the bakery is nestled among a dense stretch of roti shops, spice markets, and Caribbean boutiques. Its proximity to 104th Street makes it a landmark for local shoppers who frequent the area for their daily and weekly West Indian supplies.
Accessibility is a major advantage for this location. For those utilizing public transportation, the bakery is exceptionally well-served. It is just steps away from the 104th St station on the A subway line (Lefferts Blvd branch), making it an easy pit stop for commuters traveling to or from Brooklyn and Manhattan. Additionally, the Q112 and Q8 bus lines run along Liberty Avenue, providing frequent service for those traveling locally within Queens. For drivers, navigating Liberty Avenue can be a lively experience; while street parking is available, it is often in high demand. However, its central location means it is easily reached from major thoroughfares like the Van Wyck Expressway and Woodhaven Boulevard, ensuring that fans of authentic Caribbean bakes can reach the shop from across the city.

Features and Highlights
What defines Guyana Choice Bakery is its commitment to the specific flavor profiles of the West Indies. In a city where "fusion" is common, this shop focuses on the classic, unadulterated staples of Guyanese baking.
- Fresh-from-the-Oven Bread: One of the primary highlights is the regular appearance of hot, steaming bread throughout the day, ensuring the softest texture possible for customers.
- Nostalgic Flavor Profiles: The bakery utilizes traditional spices and herbs, particularly in their savory patties and cheese straws, to replicate the exact tastes found in Georgetown.
- Variety of Patties: Their chicken patties are noted for being well-seasoned with a distinct herbal profile, serving as a popular quick snack.
- West Indian Specialty Drinks: The inclusion of fresh coconut and specialized juices provides a refreshing accompaniment to the dry, flaky pastries.
- Community Hub Atmosphere: The shop serves as a vintage-style meeting point where members of the Caribbean diaspora often reconnect while making their daily purchases.
- Specialized Pastry Craft: Items like the pine tart are crafted with the iconic "shuriken" shape and filled with a house-made pineapple preserve that isn't overly sweet.

What is Worth Choosing
When visiting Guyana Choice Bakery, the discerning New Yorker should look for the items that define the Guyanese breakfast and tea-time experience. The most reliable choices are the breads; specifically, the Plait bread and Tennis rolls. When these are fresh, they provide the soft, pillowy texture that is essential for pairing with sharp cheddar cheese or a hot cup of tea. If you are lucky enough to arrive when a fresh batch is pulled from the oven, the quality is at its peak. Many locals also recommend the chicken patties for their "well-seasoned" and "herbal-ness" flavor, which sets them apart from the standard Jamaican-style patties found elsewhere in the city.
For those with a sweet tooth, the pine tart is a staple choice. This pastry features a flaky holder and a gooey pineapple center that satisfies a sugar craving without being cloying. However, as with any local business with a long history, it is important for customers to be attentive. While some reviewers have praised the "best cheese rolls in NY," others have noted that the texture of the dough can sometimes be on the harder, doughy side. It is always a good idea to ask the staff which items were most recently baked. Additionally, while the prices can run higher than some competitors further down Liberty Avenue, the convenience and the availability of fresh coconut juice make it a unique stop. For the most authentic experience, pair your pastry with a fresh coconut—cracked right there—to truly transport your senses to the Caribbean while standing in the heart of Queens.

The bakery is infested with rats I saw two run out the room behind the cashier I guess the room where they make the bread and other pastries. I was paying for my bread and pastries and saw it and told the casher nevermind and walked out. I've been coming here for years and I'm in shocked. Do not come here!! This place is very disgusting and nasty. They also sell everything very expensive compared to Liberty. Go there rather than coming here.

Was craving some Guyanese pastry, google directed me to this spot on Liberty Avenue, Queens. Highly disappointed at the cheese rolls, pine tarts and cheese straws. The worst. Hard doughy. Cheese straws were spicy pepper biscuits. What happened to good tasting flaky authentic Guyanese pastries.

They have fresh bread and pastries. Their cheeseroll is the best so far in NY, even better than sybil's. If you're from the west indies then this place will be very nostalgic. Very nice.
