H&H Bagels Introduce
In a city where the bagel is more than just a breakfast item—it is a cultural touchstone—H&H Bagels stands as a name recognized around the world. For those navigating the scenic streets of the Upper West Side in New York, the location at 526 Columbus Avenue serves as a modern guardian of a legendary legacy. While the original bakery once drew crowds on Broadway, this contemporary cafe provides a comfortable and efficient space for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the quintessential New York City bagel experience. Whether you are a lifelong resident who remembers the "old days" or a traveler looking for an authentic bite of the Big Apple, H&H Bagels remains a cornerstone of the Manhattan morning routine.
The atmosphere at this Upper West Side staple is a perfect reflection of the neighborhood: professional, clean, and high-energy. It strikes a balance between being a fast-paced "grab-and-go" hub for busy commuters and a welcoming spot for those who wish to sit down and enjoy the local scenery. The scent of malty, boiling dough and freshly roasted coffee greets you at the door, setting the stage for a meal that is consistently fresh and undeniably local. As an iconic brand that has been featured in countless films and television shows, H&H manages to live up to the hype by focusing on the fundamentals: a pleasantly chewy texture, a hint of sweetness in the dough, and a wide variety of high-quality spreads and fillings.
Location and Accessibility are significant draws for the 526 Columbus Avenue shop. Situated in the heart of the Upper West Side (10024), it is nestled between West 85th and West 86th Streets. This prime location makes it an ideal stop for those heading to or from Central Park, which is just a block and a half away. For families visiting the American Museum of Natural History or residents walking their dogs along the historic brownstone-lined streets, H&H is perfectly positioned. Accessibility is seamless via public transit; the shop is just steps away from the 86th Street station, served by the B and C subway lines, and a short walk from the 1 train at 86th Street and Broadway. Additionally, the M7 and M11 bus lines run directly along Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues, providing easy access for those traveling north or south through the borough.
The physical space at this location is designed for modern New York life. Unlike the strictly-to-go bakeries of the past, this cafe features ample counter space and seating, making it accessible for those with strollers or those who need a moment to check their emails while they eat. The storefront is street-level and easy to enter, maintaining the straightforward, fuss-free vibe that New Yorkers appreciate. Whether you are starting your day or stopping in for a mid-afternoon snack, the accessibility of this location makes it a reliable fixture in the daily lives of the Upper West Side community.
Services Offered at H&H Bagels extend beyond the simple sale of bread. The shop functions as a full-service breakfast and lunch destination, catering to a diverse range of tastes and dietary preferences. Their menu is built around the "legendary" bagel, but the service model ensures there is something for everyone. Key services include:
- Traditional Bagel Service: A wide variety of flavors available individually, by the dozen, or in baker's dozens for office meetings and family brunches.

What is worth choosing when you visit this Upper West Side landmark? For a truly "sorted" morning, the local recommendation is clear: the everything bagel, toasted, with bacon, egg, and cheese. This combination allows the savory seasoning of the bagel to meld with the warmth of the fresh eggs and salty bacon, creating a satisfying meal that powers you through a day in the city. If you prefer something more classic, their toasted bagels with lox and cream cheese are widely considered a gold standard, offering a generous portion of fish and a smooth, rich schmear.
For those with a sweet tooth, the cinnamon raisin bagel is a standout, especially when paired with a simple plain cream cheese. Prices are transparent and competitive for the neighborhood, with individual bagels typically around $2 and hearty sandwiches priced around $15. Given the size and density of these bagels, they are a high-value option for a filling meal. Whether you are grabbing a single bagel and a hot coffee to go or sitting down with the Sunday Times at a counter seat, choosing H&H Bagels means choosing a piece of Manhattan history that continues to deliver on its promise of quality and flavor. It is a fuss-free, genuine NYC breakfast experience that remains a "must-do" for anyone in the 10024 area.

The perfect breakfast spot. During my trip to NYC, I found myself coming back here almost every morning. Their bagels are consistently fresh, chewy, and full of that classic New York flavor. Order the everything bagel, toasted, with bacon and egg, and grab a hot coffee to go with it. That’s your morning sorted; simple, satisfying, and exactly what you need before a day of exploring the city. Quick notes for fellow travelers: Service: Quick, friendly, and efficient, they know how to keep things moving without rushing you. Food: Always fresh, always consistent. You can taste the care in the prep. Atmosphere: Clean, straightforward, and focused on what matters: great bagels and good energy. If you want a genuine NYC breakfast experience without the fuss, H&H Bagels is the move.

So happy to see H&H has a cafe on the UWS, although it’s no replacement for the old bakery on Broadway, where aficionados like me lined up at all hours for bagels fresh out of the oven. The bagels are a bit bigger and sweeter than I remember, but still pleasantly chewy and a great vehicle for cream cheese, lox, or whatever you like on your bagel. And it’s a decent place to hang out with plenty of tables and counter space, unlike the old bakery which was strictly to-go. Bagels are about $2, sandwiches about $15.

We came here due to a recommendation and we were pleasantly surprised. The service was patient and kind to us (my family and I are from Mexico and were struggling with how to order) but the staff kindly guide us through the process. At the end Tomás took us a picture and gave us a free pastry 😋. The bagels were delicious (I had the classic one and my parents got the salmon one) 10/10 😌

Love this place. Came a few times. My bagel was delicious, classic bacon, egg and cheese, they warmed up for me. Staff were amazing, super friendly! Very fast. Tried the iced tea for the first time and it tasted good.

Heading to the Museum of Natural History today, and I wanted to maximize my UWS time. H&H is one of my favorite bagels, but not sure I ever came to the actual location. Super happy I did. Bright and well-lit, this place was basically dead at 8am on a rainy Sunday morning. It started getting busier as I sat and noshed on my delicious Lox, cream cheese, capers, and tomato on a toasted Everything bagel. The ‘Nova Salmon with no onion.’ The staff was friendly, and the guy who made my sandwich joked that it had extra onion which I met with a frown and then a smile when I realized he was yanking my chain. I will mention I don’t remember paying this much for a Lox bagel and cream cheese before, but everything on this trip to NYC has been more expensive from $5 pizza for a single topping to a $16 (Corner) Bistro burger. So I figure it’s par for the course. Stop by and enjoy this delicious spot. And then walk to Central Park or stop by a Museum. Or just live your amazing life on the UWS.
