Keki Modern Cakes Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the bustling heart of Manhattan’s historic Chinatown, Keki Modern Cakes has redefined the local dessert landscape by introducing New Yorkers to the light, airy, and whimsical world of modern Asian-inspired baking. Known widely for its signature "bouncy" cheesecake, this bakery has become a sensation among locals who appreciate a departure from the heavy, dense textures typically associated with traditional New York-style cheesecakes. The shop represents a fusion of Japanese techniques and high-quality ingredients, resulting in desserts that are as visually captivating as they are delicious. When you step inside the shop at 79 Mott Street, you are immediately greeted by the comforting aroma of fresh eggs, butter, and sugar, creating an atmosphere that feels both innovative and deeply nostalgic.
The philosophy behind Keki Modern Cakes is one of precision and joy. The team, led by passionate creators like Kevin and Ajay, has built a reputation not just for their technical prowess in the kitchen, but also for their genuine connection to the New York community. Their involvement in local street festivals, such as those held at Columbus Park, highlights their commitment to the neighborhood's cultural fabric. For the local New Yorker looking for a unique treat, Keki offers a "bouncy" experience—often marketed under the "Let’s Bounce" branding—that emphasizes the jiggly, souffle-like consistency of their cakes. It is a place where modern culinary trends meet the vibrant energy of downtown Manhattan, offering a sophisticated yet accessible sweet escape for everyone from busy commuters to weekend food explorers.
Location and Accessibility
Keki Modern Cakes is perfectly situated at 79 Mott St, New York, NY 10013, USA. This location puts the bakery right in the center of one of the city's most iconic and walkable neighborhoods. For those navigating the city via the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the bakery is exceptionally easy to reach. It is just a few blocks away from the Canal Street subway complex, which serves the J, Z, N, Q, R, W, 6, and 4 lines. This makes it a convenient destination whether you are traveling from Uptown, Brooklyn, or Queens. Additionally, the Grand Street station (B and D trains) and the Bowery station (J and M trains) are within short walking distances, providing multiple transit options for local visitors.
The storefront is located on a vibrant stretch of Mott Street, known for its rich history and dense collection of specialty shops and eateries. While street parking in this part of Manhattan is famously scarce and often restricted to commercial loading, the high density of nearby subway stops and bus lines makes public transit the most efficient way to visit. For those already in the area visiting landmarks like Columbus Park or shopping in SoHo, the bakery is a natural stop on a walking tour of the Lower East Side and Chinatown. The shop is designed for efficiency, catering to the fast-paced nature of New York life while maintaining the charm of a local neighborhood bakery.

What is worth choosing
When you visit Keki Modern Cakes, the "Original Bouncy Cheesecake" is the absolute quintessential choice for any first-time visitor. This cake is the foundation of their fame; it is exceptionally light, not overly sweet, and possesses a delicate egg-forward flavor that distinguishes it from any other dessert in the city. Many locals recommend eating it while it is still warm to fully appreciate the "bounce" and the way it dissolves on the palate. It is a guilt-free indulgence that feels much less heavy than a standard dessert, making it perfect for a mid-afternoon snack or a light post-dinner treat.
Beyond the signature cheesecake, the cream puffs are a significant highlight that should not be overlooked. Patrons frequently praise the consistency of the flavors and the perfect ratio of crisp pastry to smooth, decadent cream filling. For those who enjoy a bit of seasonal variety, keep an eye out for their limited-edition releases. Their heart-shaped red velvet cake for Valentine's Day is a local favorite for its aesthetic appeal and rich flavor profile. If you are in a rush, utilize the kiosk to grab an "original" cake and enjoy it as you walk toward Columbus Park—it is a true New York experience that combines modern culinary innovation with the classic charm of Manhattan's streets. Whether you are buying for yourself or bringing a gift to a dinner party, a box from Keki is always a crowd-pleaser that sparks conversation.

I’ve always loved the bouncy cheesecake and cream puffs from Let’s Bounce – Powered By Keki! Their flavors are consistently delicious, and the Valentine’s Day limited-edition heart-shaped red velvet cake was such a treat. They also participated in a street festival we produced in August at Columbus Park, and I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin and Ajay—truly the nicest people. Their energy and kindness matched the joy their desserts bring. Highly recommend both the sweets and the team behind them!

Small bakery located in Chinatown! Smells amazing as soon as you walk in. They even have a kiosk for you to order ahead. I got the original and forgot to take a picture :( But it was soo good and warm!

A must have every single time I am in NYC for either work or just visiting family. Anyone that comes to visit me know they can get rides from me if they bring me one of their Ube Cheesecake 🤭 Closest Japanese Cheesecake you will find in the USA in comparison to the ones in Japan! Their Cream Puffs are amazing as well. Their dessert aren’t overly too sweet like most places. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Worth the Awkward Wait: The Fluffiest Cheesecake You'll Ever Eat Giving Keki Modern Cake 4 stars is a testament to the sheer, undeniable quality of their famous fluffy cheesecake. This is a classic example of a product being so phenomenal it forces you to overlook significant flaws in the customer experience—but those flaws are certainly present. Let's start with the star: the cheesecake. It is an absolute revelation. The texture is unlike anything else—incredibly light, airy, and bouncy, almost like a soufflé. It’s often served warm, boasting a perfect balance of creamy cheese flavor without being overly sweet or heavy. It truly melts in your mouth and is easily a five-star dessert, justifying the high price tag on quality alone. This cake is genuinely a must-try for any dessert lover. However, the in-store experience is where Keki severely falls short. The space itself is small and poor-looking, lacking the appeal you'd expect from a shop selling a premium product. More critically, the service needs major improvements. Upon entering the tiny store, two counter employees proceeded to completely ignore us. There was no greeting, no eye contact, and the silence was so awkward that I had to ask if the store was even open. For such a pricy product, customers deserve a minimum level of basic hospitality. Ultimately, the quality of the legendary jiggly cheesecake carries the weight and earns Keki four stars. You should absolutely go for the cake, but be prepared for a quick, uninviting, and disappointingly cold interaction. Management needs to immediately address staff training and storefront presentation to match the excellence of what they serve. No room to dine in, no coffee, tee or anything other than few items!

Fun spot in Chinatown serving fluffy Japanese-style cheesecakes and cute, bouncy desserts. The cheesecakes are light, jiggly, and perfectly sweet. Service is friendly and fast, and the shop feels cheerful and modern—great for a quick treat or dessert stop after a meal.
