Krispy Kreme Introduce
When you think of the iconic energy of New York City, few places capture the bright lights and constant motion quite like Times Square. Nestled right in the middle of this bustling hub is a destination that has become a must-visit for locals and tourists alike: the Krispy Kreme flagship store. This isn't just your average neighborhood donut shop; it is a full-scale sensory experience that celebrates the art of the glaze. For New Yorkers looking for a sweet escape or a quick bite between subway transfers, this location offers a unique blend of high-tech efficiency and old-school comfort.
The Krispy Kreme at 1601 Broadway stands out even in a city known for its world-class bakeries. What sets this particular spot apart is the "Donut Theater." As soon as you step inside, you are greeted by the warm, sweet aroma of frying dough and the sight of hundreds of donuts gliding along a conveyor belt. It provides a fascinating look at the production process, turning a simple snack run into an entertaining spectacle. Whether you are a lifelong New Yorker or just passing through Midtown, the sight of those perfectly circular rings being bathed in a waterfall of original glaze is enough to stop anyone in their tracks.
Location and Accessibility
Situated at 1601 Broadway, New York, NY 10019, this Krispy Kreme is strategically placed at the corner of West 48th Street. This makes it incredibly accessible for those navigating the heart of Manhattan. It is just a short walk from major subway lines, including the N, R, and W trains at 49th Street, or the 1 train at 50th Street. Because it is located in one of the most pedestrian-heavy areas in the world, it is a perfect pit stop after catching a Broadway show or exploring the nearby shops. While the area is known for heavy foot traffic, the store is designed to handle large volumes of guests, often featuring organized queues that move surprisingly fast given the location's popularity.

Krispy Kreme Times Square provides a variety of ways to get your sugar fix, catering to the fast-paced lifestyle of New York City residents. The services include:

What is worth choosing
If you are visiting the Times Square location, there is one absolute rule: you must try the Original Glazed donut while it is hot. There is a significant difference between a donut that has been sitting on a shelf and one that is handed to you straight from the conveyor belt. The warmth makes the glaze melt into the dough, creating a light, airy texture that is unparalleled. Many frequent visitors recommend bypassing the fancy decorated donuts in favor of a simple, fresh-off-the-belt glazed ring if you want the peak Krispy Kreme experience. The "melt-in-your-mouth" quality of a hot donut is what built the brand's reputation, and this location does it better than anywhere else in the city.
For those looking for something unique to the New York experience, the "Big Apple" donut is a must-try. It is a location-exclusive treat that pays homage to the city itself. While the prices at this Broadway flagship are slightly higher than other New York locations—such as the shops in Penn Station or downtown—the experience of watching the production process and the availability of exclusive merchandise often makes up for the premium. If you are a fan of specialty flavors, keep an eye out for their limited-run collections. For example, their "Cookies and Creme" varieties or holiday-themed Snoopy donuts offer a fun, decorative twist, though many purists argue that the classic filling-free options are where the shop truly shines.
When planning your visit, timing is everything. For the best experience, try to visit in the morning hours. During the AM block, the lines are generally shorter, and you have a much better chance of snagging one of the small round tables in the seating area. Watching the city wake up through the windows while eating a warm donut is a quintessential Midtown experience. Nighttime visits are also popular, especially with the theater crowds, but be prepared for longer wait times. Fortunately, even when the shop is busy, the staff is known for their efficiency and friendly service, maintaining a positive atmosphere despite the high-pressure environment of Broadway.
Ultimately, Krispy Kreme at 1601 Broadway is more than a place to buy dessert; it is a landmark for sugar enthusiasts. Whether you are stopping in to grab a souvenir tumbler or to witness the "donut waterfall," you are participating in a New York tradition. Just don't forget to grab a free paper hat on your way out—it is the perfect low-key souvenir of a classic Manhattan afternoon.

I was surprised by this Times Square location. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. None of the kiosks were working but the line went relatively fast for it being near the door. You could still order on your phone if you wish. The donuts here are more money than the other locations in NY. My favorite location is the one in Penn Station. What I like about this location is that you can request donuts right off the conveyor belt as the glazed donuts are made in house. I ordered a glazed and a snoopy limited edition cookies and creme donut. After eating the regular glazed donut (that was hot right off the conveyor belt) the snoopy one was very lackluster. I threw half of it away. I normally like cookies and creme but I dont know what happened here. That donut wasn't the freshest as it was a little hard but it was the filling that tasted off to me. The service was great even though they were so busy. I kept a paper hat as a souvenir. They sell shirts, cups and tumblers as well. I saw an elderly woman with her family saying how her donut was really good as she was eating it. That warmed my heart. There is a small seating area with even smaller round tables.

Morning is when to visit! Less of a line, and can even snag a seat to eat. Night time visits the lines are super long. If you order at the kiosk you can't get the Times Square exclusive red Apple donut and other selections are limited although this line moves soooo fast. Learned that the hard way. hop in line, watch the donuts get made, and you can grab that, merch, and all other products they offer.

Krispy Kreme in Times Square is definitely busy, but the staff keeps the line moving. The doughnuts were good, though the production area wasn’t as clean as it should be. There’s seating, but many people linger, making it hard for new customers to sit. Having someone manage the flow would help. Overall, it was about what you’d expect in NYC.

So, this would have been a 5 Star experience that the "Hot Light" was on and there no hot glazed donuts? Pro tip: they have an exclusive New York donut that you can only purchase online for $13.

It was my very first time trying Krispy Kreme and I absolutely loved it! The flavor is so unique, and the classic glazed donut is simply phenomenal. Since I had their rewards program, I only paid for one donut and got 3 more for free because it was my birthday, such a nice surprise! The Times Square location itself is beautiful and fully themed, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. Definitely a 10/10!
