LÀ LÁ Bakeshop NYC Introduce
In the ever-evolving culinary landscape of New York City, specifically within the eclectic streets of the East Village, a new star has emerged for dessert enthusiasts and fans of Asian-inspired pastries. LÀ LÁ Bakeshop NYC is not just your average bakery; it is a "modern Vietnamese bakery-café for the world," as its founders describe it. Bringing a fresh perspective to traditional Vietnamese flavors, this shop has quickly captured the hearts—and Instagram feeds—of locals. The name "LÀ LÁ" translates to "it’s a leaf" in Vietnamese, a nod to the golden ginkgo leaf in their logo, symbolizing a bridge between Asian heritage and North American migration. This metaphor perfectly encapsulates their menu, which blends classic French-influenced Vietnamese techniques with contemporary New York flair.
For those living in or visiting the 10003 area, LÀ LÁ Bakeshop represents the pinnacle of the "fresh and light" dessert movement. While many American bakeries lean heavily on sugar and dense frostings, the craftsmanship here focuses on delicate textures, floral aromatics like jasmine and pandan, and the sophisticated balance of savory and sweet. Whether you are stopping in for a morning bun or searching for a show-stopping birthday cake, the experience is defined by innovation and a genuine warmth that makes this small shop feel like a vital part of the neighborhood fabric.
Located at 73 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003, the bakeshop is exceptionally accessible to the local community. It sits in a prime section of the East Village, a neighborhood famed for its diverse food scene and artistic history. For those utilizing public transit, the shop is a short walk from several major subway hubs, including the Astor Place (6 train) and the 2nd Avenue (F train) stations. Its position on 2nd Avenue makes it a convenient stop for a quick afternoon pick-me-up or a destination for those exploring the nearby shops and parks. The shop itself maintains a minimal, clean decoration style that lets the vibrant colors and intricate designs of the pastries take center stage, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages discovery.
The services offered at LÀ LÁ Bakeshop NYC are designed to cater to both the spontaneous walker-in and the meticulously planned celebration. Despite its cozy footprint, the bakery provides a robust range of services to ensure every customer finds what they need:
- In-store retail sales featuring a daily rotating selection of fresh buns, sliced cakes, and seasonal specialties.
- Online ordering and pre-orders for their famous whole birthday cakes, including the highly sought-after Vietnamese Salted Egg Cake.
- Professional cake consultation for special events, ensuring that custom orders meet the high aesthetic and flavor standards the shop is known for.
- Delivery services through major platforms, bringing their viral treats directly to doorsteps across Manhattan and beyond.
- A specialized beverage program featuring unique Asian-inspired drinks like Longan Jasmine Tea and Coffee with Pandan Cream.
- Thoughtful customer recovery and service, with a reputation for going above and beyond to rectify mishaps and ensure special occasions are celebrated on time.
The features and highlights of this establishment are what truly differentiate it from the hundreds of other bakeries in the city. LÀ LÁ Bakeshop has successfully identified a niche that combines nostalgia with novelty, resulting in several standout characteristics:
- Innovative Flavor Profiles: The menu features ingredients rarely seen in mainstream NYC bakeries, such as durian, taro, salted egg yolk, and longan.
- Signature Light Texture: Their cakes are frequently praised for being "fresh and light," utilizing airy sponges and mascarpone-based icings that aren't overly sweet.
- Viral Success: Home to the "viral" Longan Jasmine cake, which has become a staple for New Year’s and birthday celebrations among the city’s food-savvy youth.
- Savory-Sweet Fusion: A mastery of the savory-sweet balance, exemplified by their salted egg lava buns and scallion sausage rolls.
- Exceptional Service: A commitment to "genuinely friendly service" that treats every customer like a neighbor, a quality often highlighted in local reviews.
- Visual Artistry: Pastries that are as beautiful as they are delicious, often decorated with fresh fruit, jasmine flowers, and elegant glazes.

When it comes to deciding what is worth choosing, the Longan Jasmine Cake is the undisputed star of the show. It features layers of delicate jasmine-infused sponge and juicy longan fruit, creating a floral and refreshing profile that is perfect for those who find traditional cakes too heavy. For a savory treat, the Salted Egg Lava Bun is a must-try; it offers a rich, molten center that perfectly complements the soft, pillowy bread. If you are feeling adventurous, their durian mini cakes or the taro sticky rice options provide a deep dive into traditional Southeast Asian dessert ingredients reimagined for a modern palate. Pair any of these with a Jasmine Tea or a Vietnamese-inspired coffee for the full experience.
The feedback from the New York community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many customers noting that even after "small mishaps," the bakery’s dedication to their craft and their customers shines through. Whether it was a New Year's Eve celebration or a last-minute birthday surprise, LÀ LÁ Bakeshop has proven time and again that they are a reliable and high-quality choice for the discerning New York dessert lover. In a city that demands the best, this small East Village shop is delivering something truly special: a taste of Vietnam, refined for the streets of NYC. I came here by follow from instagram, I have longan jasmine tea cake and cream from coffee with pandan , its were so good . I love both. And also have interesting menu as durian , taro sticky rice and coconut pandan sticky rice as well , I would try next time. For the bun also has various choices as well. Scallion sausage / butter, garlic cream / salted egg lava / matcha / taro . Efc . All looks yummy!!! Just a small shop with minimal decoration, staff were nice. Recommend!!

I rarely publicly share my thoughts, but Là Lá Bakeshop not only has wonderful cake (we had their viral longan jasmine cake for NYE 2025) but also incredible service - after a small mishap, they quickly went above and beyond to prepare their new tangerine jasmine cake in time for my baby sister’s birthday! I highly recommend trying their cakes; they’re fresh and light, with great flavor and texture! Looking forwards to whatever new great cake they come up with next! 😋😊

Got the salted egg yolk pork floss bun. It was good but not mind blowing. I was slightly disappointed - wish the salted egg yolk was more flavorful and bun was warmer. Service was great tho. Lovely staff and customer service.

I tried their mini cakes before and it so delicious , so I came back for the buns. The salted egg is amazing. Soft bun, creamy filling. Really satisfying and would come back again.

They were doing BOGO 50% off, that was a surprise! The cream cheese garlic bun was good, but the pork floss salted egg yolk did not live up to the hype! There was no egg yolk taste, and the pork floss needs more flavor and salt…. The ube cake powder on top was too much, but the durian one has a little hint of real durian. But it’s not worth that price!
