Situated in the historic and bustling Cooper Square area, this establishment offers a refreshing departure from the standard bakery fare found on every corner. It is a place where traditional baking techniques meet innovative, global flavors, creating a menu that is as eclectic as the city itself. Whether you are a lifelong New Yorker looking for your next morning ritual or a visitor exploring the sights of Lower Manhattan, Hani’s provides a sophisticated yet cozy environment to indulge in high-quality baked goods and expertly crafted beverages.
The essence of Hani’s Bakery + Café is rooted in its ability to surprise the palate. In a city where "standard" often prevails, Hani’s dares to experiment with savory and sweet combinations that reflect a modern, multicultural New York. The atmosphere inside is welcoming and professional, striking a perfect balance between a high-end patisserie and a neighborhood gathering spot. Patrons often remark on the warmth of the space, which serves as a perfect sanctuary from the energetic streets of the 10003 zip code. It is an ideal location for a quick espresso, a leisurely afternoon treat, or a place to discover a new favorite pastry that you simply cannot find anywhere else in the five boroughs.
Location and accessibility are among the many strengths of this bakery. Found at 67 Cooper Sq, New York, NY 10003, Hani’s is strategically positioned for easy access by foot, bike, or public transit. Located just steps away from the iconic Cooper Union and the scenic Astor Place, it sits at the crossroads of some of the city's most culturally significant landmarks. For those utilizing the New York City Subway, the shop is conveniently close to the Astor Place station (6 train) and the 8th Street-NYU station (R and W trains), making it an effortless detour for commuters and students alike. The shop’s storefront is easily identifiable and welcoming, positioned to catch the morning light and the eyes of passersby who are drawn in by the irresistible scent of fresh cinnamon and dark chocolate.

If you are wondering what is worth choosing on your first visit, the menu offers several standout items that have garnered significant praise. The paneer tikka pinwheel is a mandatory choice for anyone who appreciates a savory pastry; it is frequently cited as a highlight for its bold flavor and perfect flaky crust. On the sweeter side, the cinnamon roll is a perennial favorite, described by many as moist and perfectly balanced with its rich frosting. If you are in the mood for something truly distinct, the honey cake latte offers a sweet, aromatic experience that captures the essence of a classic dessert in liquid form. For chocolate lovers, the dark hot chocolate with salted whipped cream provides a sophisticated, less sugary alternative to standard café cocoa.
The reviews from the community speak volumes about the quality found at Hani’s. Customers often describe their experience as "only scratching the surface" of what the menu has to offer, indicating a high level of repeat-visit potential. The combination of "20/10" food quality and "outstanding customer service" makes it a top-tier recommendation for anyone in the Manhattan area. It is rare to find a place that can satisfy a craving for a traditional chocolate chip cookie while simultaneously offering something as innovative as a paneer-filled savory snack, but Hani’s manages to do exactly that with grace and professionalism.
Ultimately, Hani’s Bakery + Café is more than just a place to grab a coffee; it is a testament to the creativity and hospitality that New York City’s local businesses are known for. They have such unique pastries and so many options! We tried the cinnamon roll, chocolate chip cookie, carrot cake, and paneer tikka pinwheel for food. The cinnamon roll was warm and soft with a delicious frosting on top. I personally like more frosting in between the layers but it was still a solid cinnamon roll. The chocolate chip cookie and carrot cake were fine, but I loved the paneer tikka pinwheel. Very unique and it was a great savory item. For drinks I’ve tried the hot chocolate and honey cake latte. The hot chocolate was on the dark chocolate side with a slightly salted whipped cream on top. The honey cake latte was nice and sweet and another unique menu item. Overall I’d definitely come back and try more, I feel like I only scratched the surface

From Iowa and visiting nyc for Xmas and this was on my must visit list. So glad I made it here because it’s amazing. Got the cinnamon roll and cookie was both were 20/10. The cinnamon roll was so moist and the frosting was amazing! Ordered a drink too and got offered a free brownie because the wait for the drink was awhile. I honestly didn’t mind but thought what outstanding customer service to even notice we had been waiting awhile for our drink. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Good the triple chocolate cookie, a paneer tikka masala croissant, and an olive oil cake with almond and orange. Everything was delish, but I probably wouldn’t get the paneer thing again - it was too sweet to be a savory pastry. Love the vibe, the service was great, the place was packed, and the baked goods were creative and well executed. Nice place for two people to come (tables are FCFS) and get a coffee and a pastry after a walk. The sandwiches also looked really good, so I’ll need to come back and try them.

Slightly underwhelming relative to the high expectations but undeniably still very solid. Chocolate chunk cookie is massive, not too sweet, and yet rich and makes you feel like you’re eating an Adult Cookie (complimentary). Cinnamon bun is soft, delicious, and absolutely drenched in glaze, which did make it too sweet for me but I didn’t mind as much since in my mind that’s just an inherent cinnamon bun quality. Banana cream danish is unfortunately rather flavorless. Honey cake is regrettably absolutely not for me because it bizarrely tastes like onion - is this just a taste bud quirk of mine and my husband’s or did anyone else think the same?? No thank you to onion cake, but aside from flavor, objectively it is very well made. I’d come back to try the carrot cake and Rice Krispie next time too. Also would be remiss to not mention the maple sea salt latte was just divine.

Wide range of sweet and savory bakery + sandwich options to choose from. Theres a good amount of indoor seating and staffs are extremely attentive and friendly. The carrot cake, donut, and savory options were tasty though the chocolate cake was quite dry. Overall a great bakery and look forward to coming back to try more things and beverage.
