Prince Bakery Introduce
In the heart of the Belmont neighborhood of the Bronx, a legacy of flour, water, and tradition has been rising for over three-quarters of a century. Prince Bakery, located at 2418 Belmont Avenue, is not your typical corner pastry shop where you might stop for a quick croissant. Instead, it is a powerhouse of the New York baking world, serving as the silent engine behind many of the city's most beloved sandwiches. For over 75 years, this establishment has dedicated itself to the craft of the perfect loaf, earning a reputation among locals and culinary professionals as the gold standard for authentic Italian bread. While its storefront may be modest, its influence stretches across the five boroughs, defining the texture of the classic New York hero.
Prince Bakery is deeply rooted in the "Little Italy of the Bronx" culture. In this part of the city, food is a language of heritage and quality. The bakery is famous for its "Pan De Pueblo"—translated as The People's Bread—a name that reflects its mission to feed the community and the businesses that sustain it. For generations, the aroma of fresh dough has filled the air around Belmont Avenue, signaling the start of another day of production. This is a place where family recipes are guarded and respected, ensuring that the bread delivered today tastes exactly as it did decades ago. It is this unwavering commitment to consistency that has allowed Prince Bakery to thrive in a city that is constantly changing.
For the average New Yorker, Prince Bakery is often a mystery. Many have tasted their bread without even realizing it, biting into a perfectly crusty hero at a local bodega or a high-end deli. The bakery operates with a community-first spirit, focusing on the quality of the product rather than the flashiness of a retail display. In recent years, it has been recognized with prestigious quality business awards, placing it in the top tier of American businesses for its excellence and customer satisfaction. Even as a wholesale-focused operation, it remains a point of immense pride for the Bronx, proving that the best products don't always need a neon sign to be discovered.
Location and Accessibility
Prince Bakery is situated at 2418 Belmont Ave, Bronx, NY 10458, USA. This location is strategically placed in one of the most famous food corridors in the world. Just blocks away from the bustling markets of Arthur Avenue, the bakery sits in an area defined by its dense residential blocks and historic commercial strips. For locals, the bakery is a familiar landmark, representing the industrial backbone of the neighborhood. While it is located in a high-traffic area, the bakery itself is designed for logistics and delivery, often surrounded by the trucks that distribute its famous loaves across the city.
Accessibility for the general public is unique at this location. Because Prince Bakery operates primarily as a wholesale facility, it does not typically offer a walk-in retail counter for individual loaf purchases. This has created a "treasure hunt" dynamic for local residents who crave their bread. To find Prince Bakery products, locals often look for the distinctive delivery trucks or ask their favorite neighborhood grocers and delis if they carry the "Prince" brand. For those navigating the Bronx, the bakery is reachable via the B and D subway lines at the Fordham Road station, or through various local bus routes that serve the Belmont and Fordham University area. While you may not be able to walk in and buy a single roll, the bakery's presence is felt everywhere in the 10458 and 10467 zip codes.

What is worth choosing
When it comes to Prince Bakery, there is one absolute star: the Italian Bread. This is the product that has defined the bakery's identity for decades. According to long-time patrons and local reviews, it is "The Absolute best Italian bread" in the city. What makes it worth choosing is the contrast between the exterior and the interior. A true Prince loaf has a crust that is golden and hearty—strong enough to hold the most overstuffed Bronx hero—while the inside remains soft, airy, and full of flavor. Because they use a traditional dough-reservation method, the bread has a depth of flavor that is often missing from modern, commercially produced loaves.
For local residents, the most "worth it" choice is to find a bodega or grocery store that stocks their fresh rolls daily. In the 10462 and 10467 areas, many small markets carry Prince bread because they know their customers demand it. If you see a Prince delivery truck outside a local shop on Astor Avenue or near Arthur Avenue, that is your signal to head inside. Choosing their bread for a home-cooked meal elevates a simple dinner into an authentic Bronx Italian experience. For business owners, choosing Prince Bakery as a supplier is a choice to provide your customers with a piece of New York history, ensuring that every sandwich served has the foundation of quality that the borough is known for.
Lastly, keep an eye out for their specialty items if you are coordinating a large event. While their focus is on the classic hero and loaf, their capacity for high-volume, high-quality catering is a hidden gem for local organizations. Whether it's for a school lunch program or a community street fair, the bread from Prince Bakery carries a nostalgic value for many who grew up in the Bronx. It isn't just food; it's a connection to the neighborhood’s past and a delicious promise of its future. While the public continues to hope for a direct retail storefront one day, for now, the chase for the perfect Prince loaf remains one of the Bronx's most rewarding culinary adventures.

I grew up eating heros for school lunch regularly using Prince's Italian bread. It is The Absolute best Italian bread I ever has!! My main recommendation for them would be to start selling to the public as there is a high demand for their bread.

Hello, since we can't purchase your Italian Bread from the Bakery itself, can you tell me what stores in the Bronx (10467) carry your italian bread? Today we saw a Prince bread truck by the grocery store on Astor Ave. but my husband went in and they didn't bring any Italian Bread. Can you tell us where please.

Hearing they have some of the best bread around, I stopped by Prince Bakery but learned they’re strictly wholesale. The 1 star rating is for their customer service. Upon arrival, there was a black Bronco parked out front with a man sitting inside. He watched as I tried calling the number on the storefront, which does not offer any info nor are you connected to an agent. I then called a friend while on speaker to see if he had any info. Shortly after I hung up, the Bronco’s occupant got out, unlocked the bakery door and went in, all the while pretending to not hear me call out to him. I later learned the man was one of the owners and that he was not for the neighborhood. Regardless, I genuinely do not see the harm in taking two seconds to speak to a customer - one you clearly see is trying to purchase your product. Thankfully Prince doesn’t hold the monopoly on bread. I’ll never patron them again.
