Nestled in the heart of the Bronx, this iconic establishment has served as a cornerstone of the local community, offering a sweet sanctuary for those who appreciate the fine art of the pasticceria. Walking through the doors of Gino's is more than just a trip to a bakery; it is an immersion into a rich cultural heritage where recipes are treated as family legacies and every customer is greeted with the warmth typical of a neighborhood gathering spot. For New Yorkers who take their desserts seriously, Gino's represents a standard of quality that has remained steadfast amidst the city's ever-changing culinary landscape.
The atmosphere at Gino's Pastry Shop & Cafe strikes a perfect balance between a bustling city cafe and a cozy, old-world kitchen. It is the kind of place where the aroma of roasting espresso beans mingles with the sweet, buttery scent of baking dough, creating an olfactory experience that triggers instant nostalgia. Whether you are a lifelong resident of the Bronx or a visitor exploring the famed "Real Little Italy" of the neighborhood, Gino's offers a genuine taste of Italian-American life. The dedication to authenticity is evident in every display case, featuring a vibrant array of colors and textures that reflect the mastery of traditional pastry techniques passed down through generations.
Location and Accessibility
Conveniently situated in one of the most culturally rich sections of the Bronx, Gino's Pastry Shop & Cafe is located at 580 E 187th St, Bronx, NY 10458. This prime location puts it right in the middle of the vibrant 187th Street corridor, just a stone's throw away from the legendary Arthur Avenue. For locals, the shop is a familiar landmark that is easily accessible by foot, especially for those living in the Belmont and Fordham sections of the borough. The neighborhood's walkable layout encourages residents to stop in during their daily errands, making it a frequent haunt for morning coffee or an afternoon pick-me-up.
For those traveling from other parts of New York City, the shop is well-connected via public transportation. Several bus lines serve the immediate area, and the Metro-North Fordham station is within reasonable walking distance, providing a direct link for those coming from Manhattan or Westchester County. While street parking in this popular area can be competitive, the effort is well rewarded by the quality of the treats waiting inside. The shop’s storefront, often featuring enticing displays of pastries like their famous cannoli, serves as a beacon for hungry passersby, inviting them to step off the sidewalk and into a world of Italian sweetness.

Features / Highlights
What sets Gino's apart from your average bakery are the specific touches that emphasize its commitment to the craft. The shop isn't just selling food; it's providing an experience that honors the traditions of its founders. Some of the most notable features include:
- Authentic Ricotta-Based Desserts: Unlike many modern bakeries that rely solely on cream cheese, Gino's maintains the Italian tradition of using high-quality ricotta for a moist, firm, and authentic texture.
- Freshly Filled Cannoli: One of the shop's most celebrated highlights is the practice of filling cannoli shells only when ordered, preventing the pastry from becoming soggy.
- Expertly Crafted Sfogliatelle: A highlight for pastry connoisseurs, their sfogliatelle features labor-intensive, perfectly flaky layers with a rich, cake-like filling.
- Cultural Infusions: Unique beverage options, such as a decaffeinated espresso with a touch of Sambuca, reflecting deep-rooted Italian traditions.
- Historic Charm: An interior that feels timeless, providing a sense of community and history that is increasingly rare in the modern city.
- Knowledgeable and Friendly Service: A staff that takes pride in their work, often sharing stories and expertise with customers to enhance the dining experience.

What is Worth Choosing
Deciding what to order at Gino's can be a delightful challenge, as the display cases are packed with tempting options. However, based on the long-standing favorites of the local Bronx community and the glowing feedback from visitors, there are several standout items that are absolutely essential for any first-time visitor. These selections represent the pinnacle of Italian pastry craftsmanship and are the reasons why Gino's has remained a staple for decades.
First and foremost, the Cannoli are a non-negotiable choice. The secret to a truly great cannoli lies in the contrast between the shell and the filling. Because Gino's fills theirs on the spot, you get that satisfying "crunch" followed by the smooth, creamy sweetness of the filling. It is a texture and flavor profile that pre-filled versions simply cannot match. It is the gold standard for many New Yorkers who grew up eating traditional Italian sweets.
For those who prefer a more substantial dessert, the Italian Ricotta Cheesecake is a revelation. While many are accustomed to the dense, heavy profile of an American-style cream cheese cake, the Italian version offered here is moist and firm with a distinctive texture that only ricotta can provide. It is a lighter, more sophisticated take on the classic cheesecake that pairs beautifully with a strong cup of espresso. If you are feeling adventurous, ask the staff about adding a traditional touch to your coffee, such as a splash of Sambuca, to truly round out the flavor profile.
Finally, the Sfogliatelle deserves a special mention. This pastry is notoriously difficult to make, requiring countless layers of thin, flaky dough to create its signature "lobster tail" shape. At Gino's, the sfogliatelle is executed to perfection—crispy on the outside with a beautifully seasoned filling that offers just the right amount of sweetness. It is the kind of pastry that brings genuine joy to those who appreciate the labor-intensive nature of classic baking. Whether you are grabbing a single treat or a full box to share, choosing any of these items ensures you are experiencing the very best that the Bronx's Little Italy has to offer.

The Italian woman behind the counter offered me two types of cheesecakes. American version made with cream cheese and the Italian style with ricotta. I smiled, I am here, let’s try the Ricotta cheesecake. I liked it, the texture was moist and firm. She seemed surprised, I explained that I was once married to an Italian from Abruzzi. She offered to make me a decaffeinated espresso with a touch of Sambuca. Vhuntermassage LLC

Spontaneously stumbled into Gino's Cafè because the cannoli in the window looked amazing. And wow, they were! Filled freshly in front of us, perfectly creamy and crispy. But the sfogliatelle are the real gem here: a pastry that is notoriously labour intense, here made to perfection - perfectly flakey on the outside, with a great cakelike filling. It brought me more joy than I dare to admit. If I would live here I would go there every week and I would die a happier- and heavier - woman. Grazie mille!

The best cannoli anywhere! The best cakes and cookies as well. They made our wedding cake 25 years ago. Anytime we are visiting the city we always take a box or 2 (or 3 😂) back home.

I come here from time to time when I come visit my aunt here in the Bronx. They have an assortment of pastries. I did have some donuts raspberry filled, but I ate them before I took the pictures 🤦🏽♂️LMAO. Definitely a good place to satisfy your sweet tooth 💯💯

What a wonderful pastry shop! Old school.. the same decor since it opened in 1963. The owner Jerome and his wife were so kind and made me feel so welcomed as soon as sat down! I ordered a hot caramel latte and their famous chocolate chip cannoli. The latte was served in a coffee mug similar to the kind I have in my own kitchen. Made fresh, nice and foamy. The cannoli was so creamy and served in a fresh hard shell. Sat and talked with them and their insurance agent for 45 plus minutes about all of the famous people who visited this bakery. Reminded me of my childhood sitting in my aunts house on a Sunday taking about the good old days! Definitely was one of the best times I’ve ever had in my childhood growing up with my Italian side of the family. Highly recommend this place if you like old school conversation comple with a hot latte and a delicious cannoli. I’ll definitely be coming back to Gino’s for a dose of good old family fun! Thank you for making this a great end to my visit in Little Italy 🇮🇹
