Wafels & Dinges - The Commissary Introduce
For many New Yorkers, the yellow trucks of Wafels & Dinges are a symbol of the city's vibrant street food culture. However, tucked away in the industrial yet increasingly trendy pocket of Greenpoint is a more permanent fixture known as Wafels & Dinges - The Commissary. This location serves as the heart of the operation, where the magic of authentic Belgian liege waffles meets the local charm of Brooklyn. Unlike the temporary stalls found in Bryant Park or Columbus Circle, The Commissary offers a unique, "behind-the-scenes" feel for those who want to experience the brand in its home base. It is a place where the air is thick with the scent of caramelized beet sugar and fresh espresso, creating an olfactory landmark for the 11222 zip code.
The concept of "The Commissary" is particularly appealing to local residents and foodies who prefer to avoid the heavy tourist crowds of Manhattan. It functions as a cozy, neighborhood-focused outpost that captures the essence of a traditional Belgian waffle shop while incorporating the sophisticated tastes of New York. The atmosphere is undeniably friendly and professional, providing a quick escape from the hustle of the city into a world of sweet indulgence. Whether you are a longtime fan of their legendary speculoos spread or a newcomer curious about the difference between a Brussels and a Liege waffle, this location provides the perfect introductory course into the brand's high standards of quality and flavor.
Location and Accessibility
Wafels & Dinges - The Commissary is located at 284 Kingsland Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222, USA. Situated in the northernmost part of Brooklyn, Greenpoint is a neighborhood known for its rich Polish heritage and its more recent transformation into a hub for artisanal businesses and creative studios. The bakery’s position on Kingsland Avenue puts it in a quieter, more residential and industrial-mixed area, which offers a reprieve from the high-traffic commercial zones. For locals, it is a quintessential "hidden gem" that rewards those who venture slightly off the beaten path of Manhattan Avenue.
Accessibility is a key highlight for this location, particularly for those who enjoy the outdoor spaces of Brooklyn. It is located just a short walk from Monsignor McGolrick Park, one of the borough’s most beautiful and serene green spaces. This proximity makes it a favorite destination for families, dog walkers, and weekend strollers who want to grab a treat to enjoy on a park bench. While the B24 bus line provides close public transit access, many visitors find it to be a pleasant walk from the G train at the Nassau Avenue station. For those driving, the area around Kingsland Avenue generally offers more manageable street parking than the more congested parts of Williamsburg or Greenpoint, though as with any New York location, it is always wise to check local signage and business hours before making a long trip.

What is worth choosing
If you are visiting Wafels & Dinges - The Commissary, the absolute "must-have" is the legendary Liege Waffle with Speculoos. While the Brussels waffle is lighter and crispier, the Liege waffle is dense, buttery, and features pockets of caramelized pearl sugar. Pairing this with the world-famous speculoos—a gingerbread-flavored cookie butter—creates a flavor profile that has defined the brand’s success for over a decade. It is the gold standard of Belgian street food in New York and is worth every calorie. For those who want a bit of freshness to balance the richness, adding "de aardbeien" (fresh strawberries) is a classic choice that never fails.
Beyond the waffles, it is highly worth choosing the Balthazar Pastries if you are looking for a more traditional bakery experience. The croissants and tarts are of world-class caliber and offer a nice contrast to the sugar-heavy waffle menu. Additionally, don't overlook their coffee. The espresso at The Commissary is handled with professional care, and a hot latte is the perfect companion for a brisk walk through McGolrick Park on a New York morning. One important tip for any prospective visitor: as this is a working commissary and a smaller neighborhood spot, it is always a good idea to confirm their current operating hours via their social media or a quick phone call, especially if you are traveling from outside the immediate Greenpoint area. Choosing this location is choosing the authentic, local side of a New York icon, making it a staple for anyone who takes their desserts seriously.
In conclusion, Wafels & Dinges - The Commissary at 284 Kingsland Ave is a vital part of the Greenpoint community. It offers a professional yet intimate look at how one of the city's most beloved food brands operates. From the first bite of a caramelized waffle to the last sip of a well-crafted espresso, the experience is designed to be a highlight of your day. For Brooklyn residents and visitors alike, it remains a premier destination for those seeking the perfect blend of Belgian tradition and New York flair.

It's a tiny Waffles & Dinges in Greenpoint! Waffles & toppings, Balthazar Pastries, coffee/espresso, ice cream, & it smells like sugar. Tables outside or take it to McGolrick Park

Drove an hour and a half and it was closed on a Tuesday at 12pm. No signs or anything. Called the number on google and someone just said “hello, no we’re closed”. Maybe next time update this. Edit - I went to the location in Brooklyn - The commissary.
