Bagels & Co. Introduce
In the quiet, residential stretches of the Upper East Side, where the morning light hits the brick facades of Yorkville, Bagels & Co. has stood as a bastion of tradition for decades. Located at 1428 York Ave, this isn't just a place to grab a quick carbohydrate fix; it is a community hub that embodies the soulful, multi-generational appeal of a true New York City bagel shop. Known for its commitment to kosher standards and time-honored baking methods, Bagels & Co. serves as a daily destination for local families, medical professionals from the nearby hospital corridor, and dedicated foodies seeking the elusive "perfect" chew. From the moment you cross the threshold, the aroma of malt, yeast, and freshly brewed coffee creates an immediate sense of home, inviting you to slow down and savor a slice of authentic Manhattan culture.
What sets Bagels & Co. apart in a city saturated with bakeries is its unwavering dedication to the craft. Every bagel is hand-rolled and kettle-boiled before being baked to a golden, blistered finish—a labor-intensive process that many modern shops have abandoned in favor of steam-injection ovens. This adherence to tradition results in a bagel with a distinct, crackling exterior and a dense, pull-apart center that holds up against the heaviest of schmears. Beyond the food, the shop is celebrated for its warm, cozy atmosphere. In a neighborhood that can sometimes feel fast-paced and anonymous, the staff here brings a personal touch, greeting regulars by name and ensuring that every dish feels prepared with a level of care and attention that is increasingly rare in the digital age.
Location and Accessibility
Bagels & Co. is ideally situated at 1428 York Ave, New York, NY 10021, on the corner of York Avenue and East 76th Street. This location puts it in the heart of one of the city's most established residential districts, making it an easy stroll for anyone living between the East River and Third Avenue. Its proximity to several major medical institutions, including NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering, makes it a frequent stop for healthcare heroes and visitors alike. For those navigating the city's parks, the shop is just a few blocks away from the scenic East River Esplanade and the family-friendly John Jay Park, providing the perfect opportunity for an outdoor breakfast with a waterfront view.
Accessibility by public transit is straightforward, reflecting the shop's role as a neighborhood staple. The M31 and M15-SBS bus lines provide frequent service along York and First Avenues, dropping passengers off mere steps from the storefront. For subway riders, the 72nd Street and 77th Street stations (serving the Q and 6 trains respectively) are within a reasonable walking distance, allowing visitors from other parts of Manhattan to easily access this UES gem. While street parking in Manhattan is always a challenge, there are several parking garages located on East 76th and 77th Streets for those who prefer to drive. The shop’s entrance is street-level and accommodating, ensuring that parents with strollers and those with mobility considerations can enter comfortably.

What is worth choosing
If you are visiting Bagels & Co. for the first time, you cannot go wrong with the classic Nova Scotia Salmon Platter. The salmon is hand-sliced with precision, offering a silky texture that melts into the warmth of a freshly toasted bagel. For those who want to experience the shop's "appetizing" roots, the White Fish Salad is widely considered a neighborhood favorite—perfectly seasoned and creamy without being overly heavy. If you’re in the mood for something unique, the French Toast Bagel or the Rainbow Bagel provides a playful twist for younger visitors or those with a sweet tooth.
For a more substantial sit-down meal, the Shakshuka is a must-try. This traditional dish of eggs poached in a savory tomato and pepper sauce is served with a buttered bagel, making it a comforting and hearty brunch choice. If you are hosting an event, the catering platters are highly worth choosing. Customers consistently rave about the Smoked Fish Platters and the Omelet Wrap Platters, noting that the food is not only delicious but also presented with a level of care that elevates the entire dining experience. Whether it is the Mediterranean Salad Platter for a light lunch or a Bakery Basket for a morning meeting, the "wow" factor mentioned by regulars is present in every order. Don't forget to grab a Challah on Friday; it is a quintessential piece of the Bagels & Co. tradition that rounds out any weekend table.
In conclusion, Bagels & Co. on York Avenue remains a shining example of what makes New York’s food scene so special. It manages to balance the high-volume demands of a Manhattan bakery with the soul and warmth of a neighborhood kitchen. Whether you are there for a single poppyseed bagel or a catering order for fifty, you are treated with the same level of respect and hospitality. It is a place where "quality in every bite" isn't just a slogan, but a lived reality. For anyone in the New York region looking to enjoy a meal made with "care and love," Bagels & Co. is a destination that consistently delivers.

Amazing options, great pricing, and very generous portions! The catering was packaged beautifully and thoughtfully, with each item arranged with care. Every dish truly had a “wow” factor presented on neatly on trays and finished with lovely garnishes. The food was fresh, delicious, and an absolute hit with my group. Highly recommend for catering!

A wonderful place with truly delicious food. Every dish feels made with care and love, and you can taste the quality in every bite. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and welcoming — the kind of place where you immediately feel at home. Perfect for families, relaxed gatherings, and moments you want to enjoy slowly. We had a lovely experience and will definitely be happy to come back again.

If you’re hunting for a breakfast spot that truly has everything, this is it! From giant, fresh bagels with endless spreads to lox that’s honestly out of this world, every bite feels like a treat. The bagels are always fluffy and satisfying, and the toppings are generous. But what really makes this place stand out is the variety—you can enjoy classic New York–style bagels and then surprise yourself with fresh sushi or even grab a slice of their flavorful pizza. It’s the kind of spot where you come in craving breakfast, but leave wanting to try it all.

Never order from this bagel shop. I placed an order on gruhhub at 7:30 am on Madison and 50th. I called at 8 am to confirm and someone at the shop said the delivery man already left. Fast forward to 8:45 am and the "manager " says the guy just left and will be there in 10 minutes. I called to express my concern and the typical " i'm sorry I wasnt the one who placed the order " was the only response i got. It's 9 am and still no delivery. For something that is literally down the block. This is a post to educate you not to order delivery if anything else from this shop.

One of my favorite bagel shops in Manhattan. The staff are very kind and serviceable; especially Mike who gave my friend the best “1st nyc bagel” experience. Bagels are so fluffy and yummy. You have to try them!
