Birrittella's Introduce
Nestled in the historic riverside village of Tarrytown, New York, Birrittella’s is more than just a local bakery; it is a Westchester County institution with a legacy that spans generations. For New Yorkers who take their carbohydrates seriously, Birrittella’s represents a bridge between old-world Italian baking traditions and the modern home kitchen. Known primarily for its high-quality breads and its ubiquitous pre-packaged pizza dough found in supermarkets across the Tri-State area, this bakery has become a household name for those looking to replicate a professional pizzeria experience at home. Whether you are a Tarrytown local walking to the storefront for a fresh loaf or a suburban home cook picking up their dough at a local grocer, Birrittella’s is a central figure in the New York bread scene.
The bakery operates with a focus on high-volume quality, serving both the retail public and wholesale clients throughout the region. In a village known for its historic charm and vibrant food culture, Birrittella’s maintains an unpretentious, industrial-meets-artisanal vibe. The aroma of baking yeast and toasted flour often wafts through the Wildey Street neighborhood, serving as a constant reminder of the craftsmanship happening inside. For decades, the Birrittella family has dedicated themselves to the art of the perfect crust, earning a loyal following of carb-lovers who appreciate the simplicity of flour, water, and salt transformed into something extraordinary. While the bakery has expanded its reach significantly over the years, it remains firmly rooted in its Tarrytown origins, reflecting the hardworking spirit of the Hudson Valley.
Location and Accessibility
Birrittella’s is conveniently located at 150 Wildey St, Tarrytown, NY 10591, USA. Its position is ideal for both local residents and visitors exploring the scenic Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown area. Situated just a short distance from the Tarrytown Metro-North station, the bakery is easily accessible for commuters traveling on the Hudson Line. For those driving, its proximity to the New York State Thruway (I-87) and the Mario Cuomo Bridge makes it a quick and easy stop for anyone traveling through Westchester County or crossing the river from Rockland County.
The bakery features a straightforward, accessible storefront designed for efficient service. Street parking is generally available in the surrounding neighborhood, though it can become busy during peak morning hours and weekends. The facility is situated in a mixed-use area, blending residential charm with the functional aspects of a commercial bakery. Because the location serves as both a production hub and a retail outlet, the layout is optimized for moving fresh products quickly from the ovens to the customers. Accessibility for strollers and mobility devices is standard, though the shop maintains the cozy, compact feel typical of historic New York village businesses.

What is Worth Choosing
When visiting the Tarrytown storefront, the absolute "must-buy" is the fresh-baked Italian bread. There is a distinct difference between a loaf purchased at the source versus one from a grocery shelf; the crust is noticeably crisper, and the interior remains airy and fragrant. For those planning a Sunday dinner or a classic Italian-style sandwich, their hard rolls and bastone loaves are the gold standard in the area. These items represent the core of what has kept Birrittella’s in business for over a century: simple, honest, and delicious bread.
However, many New Yorkers come to Birrittella’s specifically for their pizza dough. While the dough is a staple for many, it is important to note that working with professional-grade dough requires patience and specific handling. For the best results, local experts recommend allowing the dough to come fully to room temperature before attempting to stretch it—often requiring several hours on the counter rather than a quick thaw. While some customers have found the dough challenging or have experienced issues with it rising after refrigeration, others swear by it as the closest thing to a "real" pizza shop crust. To avoid disappointment, it is highly worth choosing to watch their online instructional videos before starting your recipe, as the high protein content in New York-style dough can make it quite elastic. If you follow the traditional methods and give the yeast time to activate in a warm environment, you can produce a restaurant-quality pie that highlights the rich flavor Birrittella’s is known for. Whether you are looking for the foundation of a great pizza night or just a perfect loaf of bread for your table, this Tarrytown landmark remains an essential part of the New York culinary landscape.

Ugh! I purchased 2 packages of pizza dough for a very specific recipe for a very special occasion. I was completely disappointed because this dough was a disaster and completely useless. I thawed in the refrigerator overnight then followed the directions exactly. I even went so far as to watch the videos on their website to make certain I was successful in using their product. Neither package of dough rose despite all efforts and directions. I had to fall back on the always successful - yogurt and flour recipe - for last minute rescue. This dough is not cheap and I am so disappointed to have to throw away all of that money. I will not purchase their products again and will not recommend them.

Yikes this dough was horrendous. Let it sit for 4 hours and still was unusable. Terribly sad as we had high expectations for this dough.
