El Chevere Bakery 2002 3rd. Ave. New York, NY 10029 Chicken Quesadilla Tornillos Chocolate Chicken Quesadilla: The chicken quesadilla differs in appearance from others that I have ordered in the past. It had a sloppy look and was challenging to hold, but it tasted a lot better than it looks. The chicken was served hot off the grill and the onions were sautéed perfectly. I wasn’t expecting sliced tomatoes to be included, but it actually added to the flavor. There was a fair share of guacamole. You’ll definitely need a fork and knife for this dish. Tornillos Chocolate: This pastry was served chilled, which is exactly how I prefer my dessert. The outer texture was very flaky. It may not appear to have a lot of cream, but there’s definitely a large amount packed in! Although I didn’t think the food was the most attractive, the taste superseded the display by a long shot. Seating arrangements are limited, so I would recommend take out only. #chickenqiesadilla #tornilloschocolate #harlem #eastharlem #elchevere - Jeff T. Critic

Bolivar Bakery Introduce

Introduction / Overview

In the vibrant, ever-evolving landscape of East Harlem, few places capture the neighborhood’s authentic spirit as effectively as Bolivar Bakery. Known to many long-time residents and local foodies as El Chevere Bakery, this establishment is a cornerstone of the community’s Latin American culinary scene. Located on a bustling stretch of 3rd Avenue, it serves as a daily destination for those seeking the comforting aromas of freshly baked bread and the savory sizzle of a hot grill. Bolivar Bakery specializes in a fusion of traditional Mexican bakery staples and hearty, deli-style savory dishes that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of El Barrio.

What sets Bolivar Bakery apart from the myriad of cafes in Manhattan is its focus on substance over style. While the shop maintains a modest, no-frills aesthetic, the quality of the food speaks volumes. It is the kind of local "hidden gem" where the display cases are filled with golden-brown pastries and the kitchen is constantly churning out made-to-order specialties. For New Yorkers living in the region, this bakery represents a reliable source of high-quality, affordable food that feels home-cooked. Whether you are looking for a quick morning pastry or a heavy lunch that will keep you fueled for the day, Bolivar Bakery offers a taste of authenticity that is increasingly rare in the city's more commercialized districts.

Location and Accessibility

Bolivar Bakery is conveniently located at 2002 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10029, USA. Situated between East 110th and East 111th Streets, it is perfectly positioned in one of the most culturally significant areas of Upper Manhattan. This location makes it a primary stop for residents of East Harlem and those commuting through the neighborhood. The storefront is easily identifiable and sits amidst a variety of local businesses that contribute to the lively atmosphere of 3rd Avenue.

Accessibility is a major plus for this location. It is exceptionally well-served by public transportation, sitting just a short walk from the 110th Street subway station, which provides access to the 6 train. This makes it a quick trip for anyone traveling along the East Side of Manhattan. Additionally, the M101, M102, and M103 buses run directly along 3rd and Lexington Avenues, offering virtually door-to-door service. For those on foot, the bakery is a manageable walk from the northeast corner of Central Park and the Marcus Garvey Park area. While the interior seating is quite limited, making it primarily a "takeout" destination, its proximity to local plazas and parks provides plenty of nearby options for enjoying your meal outdoors.

What is Worth Choosing

When you visit Bolivar Bakery, the menu offers a few standout items that have earned significant praise from regular patrons. The first must-try is the **Chicken Quesadilla**. Unlike the flat, uniform quesadillas found in many commercial chains, the version here is a hearty, substantial meal. It is served hot off the grill with perfectly sautéed onions and a generous portion of guacamole. While it may require a fork and knife due to its generous fillings and "sloppy" (in the best way) presentation, the inclusion of sliced tomatoes and the quality of the grilled chicken make it a superior savory choice for lunch.

On the sweet side, you cannot leave without trying the **Tornillos Chocolate**. These "screw" shaped pastries are a masterclass in texture. Served chilled—which is how many locals prefer their cream-filled desserts—they feature a remarkably flaky outer crust that gives way to a surprisingly large amount of rich chocolate cream packed inside. It is the perfect balance of crunch and silkiness. Additionally, for those looking for a traditional breakfast, their selection of **Mexican Breads** (Pan Dulce) is always a reliable choice. While the seating inside is minimal, grabbing a hot quesadilla and a chilled Tornillo to go is a quintessential East Harlem experience that provides a "life-changing" taste of the neighborhood’s culinary heritage.
