What is worth choosing
If you are visiting Chano's Fresh Bread for the first time, the absolute first item you must try is one of their croissants. Many local fans insist that these are the best in the borough, characterized by a light, airy interior and a delicate, flaky crust that melts in your mouth. Whether you have them plain or as the base for a breakfast sandwich, the quality of the dough is undeniable. For those looking for a savory start to the day, the "Bacon, Egg, and Cheese" on a roll or bagel is a classic choice that the kitchen executes with consistent precision, ensuring the eggs are fluffy and the cheese is perfectly melted.
For lunch, the $5.99 turkey, lettuce, and tomato sandwich is arguably the best economic value in the neighborhood. It utilizes their signature fresh-baked bread, which elevates a simple sandwich into something truly special. If you have a larger appetite, the "Hungry Man Platter" provides a substantial and satisfying meal that reflects the bakery's commitment to generous portions. Finally, don't leave without picking up a loaf of their namesake fresh bread or a toasted bagel with vegetable cream cheese. The bagels here are noted for their great texture and are a favorite for commuters. Choosing Chano's means choosing a business that prioritizes the "fresh" in its name, ensuring every bite is as delightful as the first. It is a true Bronx gem that proves you don't have to sacrifice quality for price.
Ultimately, Chano's Fresh Bread represents the soul of the Bronx's local economy. It is a place where quality ingredients, traditional skills, and a welcoming attitude combine to create an essential neighborhood resource. By supporting this Morris Avenue mainstay, you are enjoying some of the finest baking in the city while helping a local business flourish. Whether you're there for the "pillow-like" croissants or a hearty omelette, Chano's is a destination that will leave your taste buds heightened with delight and your heart full of community spirit.

My review is based on a two year experience with this small business. I enjoyed my time up until a certain incident. What I have observed is that this place is inconsistent with their business opening hours. They claim to open at 6 am but there been numerous times where they weren’t open till 7 am or even 7:30 am. Sometimes they close early other than what their hours indicate and it can be very misleading. The drinks are a hit or miss depending who makes it (the owner who makes it is amazing! however the lady does not make it good.. sorry)!! I am also concerned that the family has their child who appears to be early pre teens working for them (definitely not 18+) from restocking and also preparing and making the food. This is the part where I stopped doing business with them. I got turned off when their son was eating food on the countertop where the barstool are and the father (I’m assuming) told him to grab the bread from the case right next to him to prepare it for a to-go order and mind you he was eating and did not bother washing his hands! He had licked his fingers and everything!!! After he finished the task, he continued to finish his meal. I’m sorry but that is unacceptable.. you have to draw a line of sanitary practices!! I love supporting small businesses over major corporations but just after seeing that, who knows what else goes on when customers aren’t looking or where they can’t see! do they even wash their hands after using the bathroom?? I wish them well otherwise..
