Go Bagels

181 Grand St, New York, NY 10013, USA

4.0
So good. Ordered the Manhattan on an egg bagel and was so happy. Filling but not too heavy. And they have a nice space to hang out while eating and drinking coffee. Their coffee is solid as well. Think this will be a new go-to. The only drawback was that, after tip, my bagel with lox etc and drip coffee was just under $30. - Caroline Schumacher

Go Bagels Introduce

In a city defined by its carb-heavy breakfast traditions, finding a reliable neighborhood spot for a morning fix is practically a rite of passage for every New Yorker. Go Bagels, located in the vibrant intersection of Little Italy and SoHo, has emerged as a noteworthy contender in the competitive landscape of Manhattan’s bakery and cafe scene. For residents of the 10013 area and those commuting through the bustling streets of Lower Manhattan, this shop provides a blend of traditional bagel craft and modern cafe aesthetics, offering a place where the food is as much of a draw as the atmosphere.

New York is a town where everyone has an opinion on the perfect bagel—the chewiness of the crust, the density of the crumb, and the generosity of the "schmear" are all subject to intense local debate. Go Bagels addresses these high expectations by focusing on high-quality ingredients and a menu that balances classic favorites with creative, signature sandwiches. Whether you are a local heading to work or a visitor exploring the historic architecture of Grand Street, the shop offers a quintessential New York experience: a warm bagel, a solid cup of coffee, and a moment to watch the city move by from a comfortable vantage point.

Introduction / Overview

Go Bagels is more than just a quick-service window; it is a full-service bagel shop and cafe that prioritizes both the quality of its baked goods and the comfort of its patrons. Situated in a prime location on Grand Street, the shop has quickly become a "go-to" for many who live and work in the surrounding blocks. The shop is particularly recognized for its ability to serve hearty, filling sandwiches that manage to avoid being overly heavy—a difficult balance to strike in the world of bagel-based meals. With a menu that spans from traditional lox and cream cheese to plant-based alternatives, it seeks to cater to the diverse dietary preferences of the modern New York crowd.

Beyond the food, the shop provides an inviting interior. In a city where many bagel shops are "standing room only" or strictly "grab-and-go," Go Bagels offers a nice space to hang out, eat, and drink coffee. This makes it an ideal spot for a casual morning meeting, a solo breakfast while catching up on emails, or a brief respite from the midday rush. The inclusion of a robust coffee program alongside their artisanal bagels elevates the experience from a simple snack stop to a legitimate cafe destination in the heart of the city.

Location and Accessibility

Finding Go Bagels is a breeze for anyone navigating the Lower Manhattan grid. The shop is located at 181 Grand St, New York, NY 10013, USA. This placement puts it right in the thick of things, bordering the charming streets of Little Italy and the trendy boutiques of SoHo. It is an area characterized by heavy foot traffic, historic tenements, and a constant energy that is uniquely New York.

Accessibility is one of the shop's strongest suits. For those utilizing the New York City Subway, it is within easy walking distance of several major hubs. The Grand St station (serving the B and D trains) is just a couple of blocks away, while the Canal St station (providing access to the N, Q, R, W, 6, J, and Z trains) is also nearby. This makes it a convenient stop for commuters from Brooklyn, Queens, or Uptown. For locals living in the 10013 zip code, the shop is a walkable daily luxury. While street parking on Grand Street is notoriously challenging—as is the case in most of Manhattan—the high density of public transit options and the walkable nature of the neighborhood ensure that Go Bagels is easily reachable for the vast majority of users.

Features / Highlights

What makes Go Bagels stand out in a city overflowing with breakfast options? Several key features contribute to its growing reputation among Manhattanites:

  • Ample Seating Area: A rare find in Manhattan bagel shops, providing a comfortable environment for customers to "hang out" while they eat.
  • High-Quality Coffee: Unlike many shops where coffee is an afterthought, Go Bagels serves a "solid" brew that rivals local independent cafes.

What is worth choosing

If you are planning your first visit to Go Bagels, the consensus among the local community is clear: "The Manhattan" sandwich is the star of the show. Frequently recommended on a soft, rich egg bagel, this sandwich is praised for its excellent balance of ingredients. It is the type of meal that keeps you fueled for a long walk through the city without the heavy "food coma" that often follows a massive bagel breakfast. When paired with their solid drip coffee, it creates a high-end breakfast experience that many consider a highlight of the neighborhood.

However, users should be mindful of a few practical points to ensure the best experience. For those looking for vegan options, the tofu cream cheese is available, though some customers have noted that the portioning of spreads can occasionally be light relative to the premium price. It may be helpful to request an extra generous portion if you prefer a thicker layer of cream cheese. Additionally, it is important to note that a full breakfast here—specifically a lox-based sandwich with a coffee and a tip—can approach the $30 mark. While this reflects the premium location and the rising costs of quality ingredients in Manhattan, it is something to keep in mind when planning your morning budget. For the quintessential New York experience of a great bagel in a great space, Go Bagels on Grand Street remains a compelling choice for the local 10013 community.
