What is worth choosing
When visiting El Michoacano Bakery, the "pan dulce" (Mexican sweet bread) is the undisputed star of the show. If you are a first-time visitor, you should prioritize the traditional conchas—the iconic shell-patterned breads. Patrons consistently highlight that the texture of the bread here is "soft and flavorful," which is exactly what you want in a high-quality concha. It is an excellent choice for a morning snack when paired with a hot cup of coffee, as the light sweetness of the topping balances perfectly with the airy dough. Another item that comes highly recommended by the local Jackson Heights community is the "Pan de Muerto" during the season; it is specifically praised for being exceptionally soft and tasty, capturing the traditional essence of the holiday.
For those looking for something richer, the chocoflan is a standout selection. This "impossible cake" combines the richness of chocolate with the silky texture of caramel flan, and El Michoacano’s version is known for its perfect layering and depth of flavor. If you are looking for a savory-leaning option, their various plain or cheese-filled rolls are also worth choosing, especially if you can catch them shortly after they come out of the oven. Regardless of what you choose, the general consensus among local New York users is that everything in the display case is delicious. The combination of traditional recipes, fresh ingredients, and a master’s touch in the kitchen makes El Michoacano Bakery a premier choice for anyone wanting to experience the best of Mexican baking in Queens. It is a "gem" on 90th Street that truly lives up to its name and reputation.
