Buenos Aires Bakery

This is a great coffee and breakfast spot, grab to go, only cash. I am not a person that likes a lot of sweet foods for breakfast, so I will not comment on those, but the pan de bono, the empanadas and the buñuelos are really tastey with coffee. Also, these places are the only spots with affordable coffee anymore. A big pour with milk and sugar for less than $2. I get my breakfast and coffee for less than $5 from eliana and always have a great day. - Elizabeth Holt

Buenos Aires Bakery Introduce

In the heart of one of New York City’s most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods, Buenos Aires Bakery stands as a steadfast guardian of Argentinian culinary tradition. Located in Jackson Heights, Queens, this Roosevelt Avenue mainstay has spent years serving as a cultural touchstone for the local community and a destination for food enthusiasts across the five boroughs. Stepping inside this bakery is less like entering a standard New York storefront and more like being transported directly to a cozy corner of Buenos Aires. The air is thick with the scent of buttery dough, savory spices, and freshly brewed coffee, creating an atmosphere that is both professional in its efficiency and deeply friendly in its soul.

For New Yorkers who appreciate the rich tapestry of Latin American flavors, Buenos Aires Bakery offers an experience that is both authentic and unpretentious. The decor itself tells a story of national pride; blue and white tiles—the colors of the Argentinian flag—line the walls behind the counter, while thermoses emblazoned with the crests of River Plate and Boca Juniors, Argentina’s premier football clubs, tower above the patrons. This is a place where the local heritage is celebrated daily, providing a slice of home for the diaspora and a delicious education for everyone else. Whether you are stopping in for a quick breakfast on your way to the subway or looking to stock up on treats for a weekend gathering, this bakery remains a vital part of the Jackson Heights landscape.

Location and Accessibility

Buenos Aires Bakery is perfectly situated at 90-09 Roosevelt Ave, Jackson Heights, NY 11372, USA. This prime corner location makes it incredibly easy to find for anyone navigating the bustling Roosevelt Avenue corridor. For those utilizing public transportation, the bakery is exceptionally accessible. It is located just steps away from major transit hubs, including the 90th St-Elmhurst Av station, served by the 7 train—often referred to as the International Express for its route through the city's most diverse neighborhoods. Additionally, numerous local bus lines frequent the area, ensuring that residents from across Queens can reach the bakery with ease.

While the neighborhood is a whirlwind of activity, the bakery itself is a compact and efficient space. Visitors should be prepared for a tight, bustling environment where you are immediately surrounded by stacks of fresh bread and cookies. It is a classic New York "grab-to-go" spot, though the energy of the crowd often adds to the authentic charm. One important logistical note for local users is that this establishment primarily operates as a cash-only business. In a modern city where digital payments are common, the cash-only policy at Buenos Aires Bakery is a nod to its old-school, traditional roots, so be sure to visit an ATM before you arrive to ensure a smooth transaction.

What is worth choosing

When visiting Buenos Aires Bakery, the absolute "must-try" items are the Argentinian-style empanadas. These are a point of pride for the establishment and are available both baked and fried. Unlike the thicker, doughier versions found in other cuisines, these empanadas employ a thin, buttery crust that essentially melts away, allowing the expertly seasoned meats and spices to take center stage. They are traditionally served without sauces, as the interior is flavorful enough to stand on its own. Whether you choose the classic beef, chicken, or cheese options, you are getting an authentic representation of Argentinian street food at its finest.

For those looking for a sweet finish or a snack to bring home, the alfajores are indispensable. These traditional cookies, often filled with rich dulce de leche and dusted with powdered sugar or coconut, are the perfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee. Speaking of coffee, this is perhaps the best value in the neighborhood. You can still get a large, steaming pour of coffee with milk and sugar for under $2, a rarity in modern New York. Pairing a hot coffee with a savory pan de bono or a round, salty buñuelo makes for a breakfast that is both satisfying and incredibly budget-friendly. Choosing Buenos Aires Bakery means choosing quality and tradition over fancy frills; it is a place where the food does the talking and the prices keep you coming back. For a factual and delicious taste of Argentina in the heart of Queens, this Roosevelt Avenue corner is the place to be.

In conclusion, Buenos Aires Bakery is a gem of the New York region that has successfully maintained its identity in a rapidly changing city. It provides professional, fast-paced service while remaining friendly and deeply rooted in its heritage. For any New Yorker looking for an affordable, authentic, and high-quality bakery experience, a trip to 90-09 Roosevelt Ave is highly recommended. Just remember to bring cash, an appetite for empanadas, and perhaps a little extra room for a few alfajores to go.
