I recently visited and bought humitas, pan de ambato, cola morada y tostado, unfortunately the tostado was rancid awful oily taste. The cola morada was amazing, rich and refreshing! I have to say the downside to my visit was the lady at the counter who didnt seem knowledgeable on the pan de ambato, she mentioned she wasnt from there, staff should be more familiar with what they sell. I'm not ecuadorian and thats why i asked. I did go twice since we are not locals wanted to buy some sweets for our ride, overall I would recommend this place, it was busy the times I showed up so have some patience. Also no phone number updated so was unable to reach them - S N

Punto Ecuatoriano Bakery Introduce

In the vibrant and culturally dense neighborhood of Elmhurst, Queens, Punto Ecuatoriano Bakery serves as a vital culinary anchor for the local Ecuadorian community and curious food explorers alike. Situated on the bustling Roosevelt Avenue, this bakery is more than just a place to grab a quick carbohydrate fix; it is a sensory gateway to the Andean highlands and coastal plains of Ecuador. For New Yorkers navigating the energetic streets of the 11373 zip code, the bakery offers a warm, unpretentious atmosphere where the scent of freshly baked yeasted breads and steaming corn-based snacks provides a comforting contrast to the fast-paced city life outside. As a "no-frills" establishment, it focuses on the essential flavors that define Ecuadorian breakfast and snack culture, making it a beloved staple for those seeking authenticity over artifice.

The charm of Punto Ecuatoriano Bakery lies in its commitment to traditional recipes that are often difficult to find outside of specialized enclaves. While New York is home to countless bakeries, few capture the specific regional nuances of Ecuadorian baking with such straightforward dedication. From the iconic "Pan de Ambato"—a bread celebrated for its unique texture and historical roots in the city of Ambato—to seasonal delicacies that mark the Ecuadorian calendar, this bakery provides a consistent touchstone for heritage. It is a place where neighbors meet for a quick "cafecito" and where families stop in to stock up on traditional treats for the week ahead. The establishment's popularity is evident in its steady stream of customers, a testament to its role as a reliable provider of comfort and community in the heart of Queens.

Location and Accessibility

Punto Ecuatoriano Bakery is strategically located at 86-30 Roosevelt Ave, Elmhurst, NY 11373, USA. This prime location puts it directly on one of the most famous transit and commercial corridors in New York City. Roosevelt Avenue is known for its incredible diversity and its position as a lifeline for the borough of Queens, and the bakery benefits immensely from this central placement. It is easily accessible for local residents of Elmhurst and Jackson Heights, who can reach the shop via a short, pleasant walk through the neighborhood’s busy streets.

For those traveling from further afield, accessibility is simplified by the bakery's proximity to major public transportation hubs. It is situated within walking distance of the 82nd St-Jackson Heights and 90th St-Elmhurst Av subway stations, both of which are served by the 7 train—the "International Express" that connects Manhattan directly to the heart of Queens. Additionally, multiple local bus lines, including the Q32 and Q33, run nearby, offering convenient connections for those coming from other parts of the borough. While street parking on Roosevelt Avenue can be highly competitive, the bakery’s efficient service model makes it an ideal stop for those using public transit or exploring the area on foot.

What is Worth Choosing

When you step into Punto Ecuatoriano Bakery, the most essential item to try is the Pan de Ambato. This traditional bread is a hallmark of Ecuadorian baking; it has a slightly dense yet soft crumb and a flavor that evokes the artisanal ovens of the Andes. It is best enjoyed in the morning with a hot cup of coffee, allowing the simple but high-quality ingredients to shine. For those who prefer savory snacks, the Humitas are a must-order. These are steamed corn cakes made from freshly ground corn, often mixed with cheese and wrapped in corn husks. When served warm, they offer a delicate sweetness and a comforting texture that is uniquely Ecuadorian.

If you find yourself at the bakery during the autumn season, you cannot leave without a cup of their Colada Morada. This thick, purple beverage is made from purple corn flour and a complex infusion of fruits like blackberries, mortiño (Andean blueberries), pineapple, and strawberries, all simmered with aromatic spices like cinnamon and ishpingo. Regulars describe it as rich, refreshing, and deeply flavorful. To round out your selection, look for their "sweets"—various traditional pastries that make for perfect travel snacks. While the bakery can get quite busy, especially on weekends, the wait is worth it for a taste of these authentic flavors. Just remember to be patient with the counter staff, as this popular neighborhood spot stays bustling for a reason. Choosing the Pan de Ambato or a steaming cup of Colada Morada ensures you are experiencing the very best of what this Elmhurst gem has to offer.
