Ladurée Introduce
For those wandering the sophisticated corridors of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the mint-green facade of Ladurée at 864 Madison Avenue stands as a portal to 19th-century Paris. Established as a premier destination for luxury confections, this boutique brings the storied heritage of Maison Ladurée—founded in 1862—directly to the heart of New York City. Known globally for the creation of the double-decker macaron, Ladurée has become synonymous with refinement and indulgence. For local New Yorkers, particularly those looking for an alternative to other high-end patisseries like Pierre Hermé, this Madison Avenue outpost offers a sanctuary of aesthetic beauty and culinary precision that elevates the simple act of buying a cookie into a world-class experience.
Walking into the boutique, visitors are immediately met with an ambiance of old-world opulence. The shop is designed with the same gilded mirrors, pastel tones, and plush furnishings that define its flagship locations on the Rue Royale and the Champs-Élysées. While the space is intimate, it is curated like a high-end jewelry box, with glass cases displaying rows of perfectly uniform macarons and delicate pastries that look almost too beautiful to eat. Whether you are a regular local resident stopping in for a morning croissant or a visitor seeking a quintessential New York luxury moment, the polite and helpful staff ensure a welcoming environment. In a city that never slows down, Ladurée provides a rare opportunity to pause, indulge in a "treat yourself" moment, and enjoy a slice of Parisian history.
Location and Accessibility
Ladurée Madison Avenue is perfectly situated at 864 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10021, USA, nestled between 70th and 71st Streets. This prime location places it in one of the most prestigious shopping districts in the world, surrounded by luxury fashion houses, art galleries, and the historic brownstones of the Upper East Side. For those spending a day at the nearby Frick Collection or the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the boutique serves as the ideal mid-afternoon detour. Its proximity to Central Park—just a short two-block walk away—makes it a popular spot for picking up treats to enjoy on a nearby park bench or during a scenic stroll.
Accessibility via public transportation is straightforward for any New Yorker. The boutique is a brief walk from the 68th St-Hunter College station and the 77th St station, both serviced by the 6 train. Additionally, the Q train at 72nd Street provides a modern, fast link for those coming from the West Side or further downtown. Various bus routes along Madison and Fifth Avenues also stop nearby, making the shop easily reachable from virtually anywhere in the city. While the Madison Avenue location is famously "petite" compared to the sprawling tea salon in SoHo, it does offer a small, elegant seating area for those who wish to enjoy their espresso and pastry on-site, providing a quiet escape from the rhythmic pulse of Madison Avenue.

What is worth choosing
For the uninitiated, the Signature Macarons are the absolute must-try. While the flavors rotate seasonally, the Salted Caramel, Pistachio, and Rose are perennial favorites that showcase the perfect balance of a delicate, crunchy shell and a soft, flavorful filling. If you are looking for something slightly more substantial than a standard macaron, the "Large Macaron" (available in flavors like Caramel or Raspberry) offers a more indulgent experience at a slightly higher price point. For those following the latest trends, the "Eugénie" biscuits are highly worth choosing. These are essentially sophisticated, chocolate-covered cookies with layers of fruit or crème; the vanilla, red berry, and passion fruit flavors are particularly popular for their "honest and intense" profiles.
If you are a fan of traditional French patisserie, the "Ispahan" is a legendary choice—a beautiful rose-flavored macaron filled with rose petal and lychee cream, embellished with fresh raspberries. For chocolate lovers, the "Plaisir Sucré" is an unparalleled confection consisting of layers of chocolate and hazelnut mousse atop a crunchy, airy base. While these individual pastries usually range from $12 to $15, they represent the pinnacle of quality over quantity. Lastly, don't overlook their simple "Viennoiseries." A classic butter croissant or the unique Rose Croissant provides a more understated but equally delicious way to start a morning on the Upper East Side. Whether you are purchasing a single treat or a $52 gift box, every selection from Ladurée Madison Avenue is a testament to the art of the French lifestyle.
In summary, Ladurée at 864 Madison Ave remains a cornerstone of the New York dessert scene. It manages to stay relevant by blending its 160-year history with modern innovations like the Eugénie, all while providing the impeccable service and atmosphere that one expects from a world-class French maison. For the local resident or the savvy traveler, a stop at this boutique is more than just a transaction; it is a moment of sweet happiness curated with care and love. It is the closest one can get to the Champs-Élysées without leaving the 10021 zip code.

Since Pierre Herme has no locations in NYC that I’m aware of Laduree is the next best option. I enjoy their Eugenie’s which are basically chocolate covered cookies with a thin layer of fruit or crème between the chocolate & cookie depending on the flavor you choose. They do change the flavors from time to time. Of course since I’ve been on a caramel kick lately they didn’t offer caramel or chocolate during my most recent visit. Since I don’t always like some of their more unique flavors I decided to play it safe & go with vanilla, red berry, pineapple & passion fruit. Thankfully I enjoyed all of these flavors. For my caramel fix I went with a large macaron which was delicious. They have a small area if you want to enjoy a dessert with some coffee at this location. In addition to the Eugenie’s & macarons they serve a small assortment of pastries. You can purchase gift boxes in various colors perfect for get well gifts, secretary’s day or just because lol. A gift box of a dozen Eugenie’s is currently $52.00. Though I didn’t purchase any small macarons during this visit I believe they were $3.00 each. The large is currently $8.00

From the moment I walked in I was blown away by the amount of pastries and of course the ambiance of the place! I was greeted right away by their staff, who were very polite and helpful towards me. I highly recommend this bakery!

I stopped by Ladurée recently and was genuinely impressed. The macaroons and French pastries were absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The staff were warm and welcoming, which made the experience even better. There's seating available, so it’s a perfect spot to relax and enjoy your treats. Highly recommend if you're in the area and craving authentic French pastries!

Never thought that I would be writing a negative review about my favorite spot, but unfortunately here we are. This review is only for the woman who was behind the counter today -older woman, short dark hair with big glasses. She was so disrespectful, I wanted to get 8 macarons in a regular box (not a gift box as they were for me), something that I’ve been purchasing regularly for the past 12 years at this very location and she refused 🤯 she said that I can only buy macarons in the gift boxes. This is absolutely untrue. She eventually put the macarons in the usual pastry box (after embarrassing me in front of other customers) but insisted that this is absolutely never done and that she is doing me a huge favor. I live around the corner, so I got there regularly and I’ve never previously encountered her or anyone with such a vile attitude there. Maybe because I was in workout clothes she felt the need to talk to me like a peasant? Totally bizarre experience. The rest of the staff, the macarons and the delicious large Ispahan that I always order are always a solid 5/5.

Every Ladurée store in New York has its own style. I like the classical style atmosphere here. In addition to tasting French desserts and coffee, the salad for lunch is also delicious. Taking out macarons is a joy.
