What is worth choosing
When visiting Patmar Bake Shop, there are several "must-try" items that have defined the bakery's legacy in Queens. At the top of the list is the famous Cheese Bread. This isn't just a standard loaf; it is a local legend. Families have been purchasing this specific bread for years, often citing it as the primary reason for their visit. The texture is consistently soft, and the cheese integration provides a savory richness that makes it perfect for a standalone snack or as a side to a hearty Caribbean meal. It is so highly regarded that customers often report that relatives visiting from out of town specifically request Patmar's cheese bread as a priority during their stay.
Another essential choice is the Jamaican Patty. Widely considered some of the best in the area, these patties feature a crust that is perfectly flaky and golden, housing fillings that are seasoned with the precise heat and spice blend characteristic of authentic Jamaican street food. Whether you prefer beef, chicken, or vegetable, the quality of the pastry at Patmar Bake Shop sets it apart from the more commercialized versions found elsewhere in the city. The commitment to traditional methods means each patty feels like a handmade labor of love rather than a mass-produced product.
For those looking for something sweet and culturally significant, the Black Cake is an absolute requirement. Often referred to by patrons as the "best black cake ever," this dense, fruit-filled, and rum-soaked delicacy is a masterpiece of Caribbean baking. It captures the complex, deep flavors that are essential for traditional celebrations. The fact that Patmar has managed to maintain the quality of this difficult-to-perfect cake over the decades is a testament to their skill. Choosing Patmar Bake Shop means choosing a piece of history, a commitment to quality, and a flavor profile that transports you directly to the islands with every bite. It is a quintessential New York experience that honors the diverse culinary landscape of the city.

My family has been purchasing the cheese bread from here for years and it is amazing every time! We have had people come from out of town and special request the cheese bread! The Patties are also amazing, some of the best in the area! This place has been around for decades and the quality or taste of the food has never changed!!

Tasty varieties of patties. My favorite are the vegetable ones. Delicious vegetarian peas soup. Lovely selection of pastries, including coconut and guava tarts, potato pones, cakes, and hard dough bread made fresh. Reasonable prices. I love to buy a taste of Jamaica here when I come to NY.
