Pio Bagel West Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For those navigating the vibrant, fast-paced streets of Midtown South, Pio Bagel West has emerged as a beloved sanctuary for the quintessential New York breakfast. Located on West 36th Street, this shop is far more than your standard transit-hub deli; it is a specialized bagel boutique that combines traditional Jewish-style baking with a modern, eclectic menu that reflects the diverse culinary landscape of Manhattan. Whether you are a local office worker seeking your daily dose of caffeine or a traveler staying in a nearby hotel, Pio Bagel West offers an inviting atmosphere that prioritizes freshness and variety above all else.
At the core of their operation is the commitment to "in-house" production. Every bagel is hand-rolled and baked on the premises, ensuring that perfect balance of a crackly, golden-brown shell and a soft, doughy interior. What truly sets Pio Bagel West apart from the competition is the sheer scale of their customization options. From the legendary "rainbow" bagels that add a pop of color to your morning commute to an almost overwhelming selection of house-made cream cheese "schmears," the shop encourages patrons to build their own perfect breakfast. It is a place where classic New York tradition meets a friendly, "cute" aesthetic, making it a reliable favorite for the 10018 community.
Location and Accessibility
Pio Bagel West is perfectly situated at 58 W 36th St., New York, NY 10018, USA. This prime Midtown Manhattan location places it right between 5th and 6th Avenues, making it exceptionally accessible for those working in the Garment District, near Herald Square, or in the Bryant Park area. For commuters, the shop is a dream; it is just a short walk from the 34th Street-Herald Square subway station (B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, W lines) and the 34th Street-Penn Station hub (A, C, E, 1, 2, 3 lines, and LIRR/NJ Transit). This makes it an ideal "grab-and-go" stop for those exiting the train and heading toward their office towers.
The shop itself is designed for the high-density foot traffic of Midtown, but it maintains a cozy, boutique feel that visitors often describe as "very cute." While it is primarily a fast-casual establishment optimized for quick service, there is some limited indoor seating available for those who wish to enjoy their bagel away from the sidewalk bustle. The large windows provide excellent people-watching opportunities, a hallmark of the New York dining experience. Note for visitors: while the shop is accessible and welcoming, it does not provide a public restroom, so plan your Midtown itinerary accordingly. The shop is open early daily, catering to the "early bird" New York crowd that starts its day well before the city's general opening hours.

What is worth choosing
When you find yourself at the counter of Pio Bagel West, the first thing worth choosing is their fresh-pressed juice. Unlike many shops that rely on pre-bottled options, the juice here is a "big win" because the fruit is literally pressed right in front of you, resulting in a vibrant, fantastic taste that perfectly offsets the richness of a bagel. For a truly unique experience, many locals opt for the rainbow bagel paired with one of their more adventurous cream cheese toppings. The bagel itself is frequently praised for being "fantastic," providing the chewy, yeasty flavor that authentic NYC bagel lovers crave.
If you are in the mood for a classic breakfast, the egg and cheese on a toasted bagel is a staple. While some regular patrons mention that the portions of bacon or cheese can sometimes be on the "light" side, the quality of the bread and the eggs remains consistently high. If you want to lean into the shop’s unique offerings, don't overlook the homemade empanadas or the soup of the day, which provide a warm, comforting lunch option. With so many choices for cream cheese toppings—arguably more than most shops in the area—experimenting with a "schmear" you’ve never tried before is half the fun of visiting. Whether it’s a lox spread or a sweet cinnamon raisin pairing, the freshness of the in-house bake ensures it will be a highlight of your day.

A very cute NYC bagel shop with tons of options for schmear, bagel and sandwich! They also have a soup of the day and make homemade empanadas. I had a bacon egg and cheese on rainbow bagel. The bagel itself was fantastic but I found the cheese and bacon amount to be light. The big win for me was the fresh squeezed juice. They literally pressed all the fruit right in front of you. It tasted fantastic! Be warned there is no bathroom.

This place is absolutely fantastic. I have never seen soooo many choices for crème cheese toppings. Bagels are made fresh in house. Lots and lots of options including meats and eggs . Our hotel has a free breakfast option but we have found ourselves here almost every morning.

We stopped off at Pio Bagel this morning for a quick brunch on the way from our hotel on Lexington Ave to the Marquis Theatre to watch a matinee show. The front of the store was heavily obscured by scaffolding erected over the entire building but this didn't stop a constant stream of customers entering. There was a long counter at the back of the store with high seats for customers to sit & eat their food and a few tables at the front of the store. We sat at one of the front tables and my wife had her first ever bagel in NYC, which was also the largest and best bagel she had eaten. Her toasted seeded Westside Bagel had 2 eggs, smoked salmon, avocado & scallion jalapeño cream cheese. She had a weak one shot milky latte with her bagel, which she didn't enjoy as the milk hadn't been frothed enough and it was luke warm. I had a Breakfast Burrito Wrap with cajun chicken, sautéed beans, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese & guacamole, which was very light & delicious. Regrettably, I didn't enjoy the almond croissant I had with my cuppa English Breakfast tea as it was very dry and had almost no almond paste. The total bill came to $46. In summary the bagel & burrito wrap were excellent and the servers were very friendly & helpful, however, we didn't enjoy the coffee and almond croissant pastry

Really fresh bagels with tons of options. The bagels are baked to perfection and warmed up when you order them. They have tons of different types and lots of different spreads. Got the French toast bagel with strawberry cream cheese and it was amazing. The cream cheese had fresh strawberries mixed in it and the bagel tasted like French toast! Would go back!
