Angelina Bakery HSQ Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Angelina Bakery HSQ is a prominent fixture in the vibrant culinary landscape of Midtown Manhattan. Part of a celebrated chain of bakeries across New York City, this Herald Square location brings a touch of Italian-Sicilian flair to one of the city's busiest districts. Named after the founder’s daughter, the bakery is inspired by family recipes passed down through generations, reimagined with a modern, cosmopolitan twist. It is particularly famous for its "remastered" bombolone—an Italian donut that utilizes a specialized dough process to result in a lighter, airier texture with less sugar and butter than traditional versions.
Stepping into Angelina Bakery at 35th Street, visitors are greeted by a visually striking display of pastries that appear "shiny, sparkling, and bright." The aesthetic is clean and undeniably appealing, designed to showcase the artistry of the pastry chefs. While the bakery has garnered a reputation for its innovative hybrids like the "Brissant" (a brioche-croissant cross), it remains deeply rooted in classic flavors. Whether you are a local professional grabbing a quick espresso or a group looking for a decadent birthday cake, this location serves as a versatile hub for sweet and savory Italian delights in the New York region.
Location and Accessibility
The bakery is conveniently located at 41 W 35th St, New York, NY 10001, USA. This prime real estate puts it just steps away from the iconic Herald Square and the flagship Macy’s department store. For New Yorkers, the accessibility of this site is one of its primary draws. It is centrally positioned near the 34th Street-Herald Square subway station, which serves the B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, and W lines. Additionally, it is within a short walking distance of Pennsylvania Station, making it a perfect stop for commuters entering or leaving the city via NJ Transit, Amtrak, or the LIRR.
While the location is incredibly central, the physical space itself is described as "very tight," mirroring the high-density nature of Midtown Manhattan. There is limited room for maneuvering inside, which reinforces its primary function as a high-volume takeout and quick-service destination. Despite the compact footprint, its presence on a major crosstown street ensures it is easily reachable for those navigating the Garment District or visiting the nearby Empire State Building. For those utilizing ride-sharing or local taxis, the 35th Street entrance is a frequent drop-off point, though street parking in this area is notoriously difficult, making public transit the preferred method for local users.

Features / Highlights
The experience at the Herald Square location is defined by several unique features that distinguish it from a standard neighborhood bakery:
- Signature Bomboloni: The star of the show, these Italian donuts are available in numerous fillings such as Nutella, Chantilly cream, pistachio, and strawberry.
- The Brissant™: An innovative hybrid pastry that combines the buttery flakes of a croissant with the soft, pillowy texture of a brioche.
- Transparent Display: The storefront features bright, well-lit displays that emphasize the visual perfection of the cakes and tarts, often described as "appealing" and "sparkling."
- Multi-Layered Custom Cakes: Known for being "light and really good," their custom cakes often feature multiple layers and can be tailored to match specific reference images.
- Authentic Italian Roots: Recipes are influenced by Sicilian traditions, offering a flavor profile that many local users find more nuanced than standard American bakeries.
- High-Volume Efficiency: Located in a transit hub, the shop is built for speed, catering to the thousands of commuters and shoppers who pass through Herald Square daily.

What is Worth Choosing
If you are visiting Angelina Bakery HSQ for the first time, the Pistachio or Nutella Bombolone is the definitive choice. These donuts are the cornerstone of the brand’s identity and represent the "remastered" light dough that has become a local sensation. The fillings are generous, and the texture offers a satisfying balance that isn't overly heavy, making them a perfect afternoon pick-me-up. For those who prefer a hybrid texture, the Chantilly Brissant is highly recommended for its buttery complexity.
When it comes to celebrations, their Custom Cakes are a significant draw for the local community. While they are "on the expensive side" (starting around $150 for custom work), the design execution is remarkably high. Patrons have noted that the bakery is excellent at following reference photos to ensure the cake looks exactly as envisioned. The taste is consistently described as "light" and "really good," and notably, the cakes tend to hold up well even after a couple of days if kept properly. For a smaller individual treat, the Cake Pops are a popular choice due to their "good size," though it is worth noting that some patrons have found the vanilla and chocolate versions to have a unique aftertaste. If you are looking for a savory lunch, the Focaccia options are a solid bet, often featuring fresh, high-quality Italian ingredients. While the service is fast and functional, don't expect a lingering sit-down experience given the "tight" space; instead, embrace the true New York way by grabbing your "shiny, sparkling" treats to enjoy as you walk through the heart of the city.

Everything looked pretty and clean. The items they have on display appear to be very appealing, shiny, sparkling, bright. I was very disappointed that the pastries, tasted stale. Cake pops were a good size. We ordered vanilla a chocolate and the both had a strange aftertaste. Mini cheesecake was ok. The place is very tight. Not much room to walk around. Service wasn't anything special, no greeting, no smile, no suggestions.

Angelina Bakery is a chain of bakeries across NYC, serving up pastries, cakes, and other dishes. I bought a custom cake here for a birthday. The cake was a bit on the expensive side ($150) but it did come with a decent amount of layers, the custom flavors were only chocolate or vanilla though. The cake was designed perfectly for what we wanted, as it came out looking like the reference photos. The taste was as expected, nothing outstanding but still really good and light. The cake did taste good even after 2 days out of a fridge because they gave us such a big box, so expect to clear out some fridge space if you need to refrigerate it.

Overall a great bakery! The donuts were tougher than I expected, but the croissants were delicious. We loved the spacious upstairs seating area too!
